The Manfrotto 161MK2B Super Pro Tripod is the tallest in the Manfrotto line of tripods, and is capable of supporting cameras up to 44 lbs (20kg), at a height of over 8.5' (2.6 m). It is the ideal large format tripod for home and studio use, and works especially well with the 160 (3057) Professional Head.

The 161MK2 offers a working range from a 17.3" minimum to a maximum of 105". The center column is geared for easy, accurate adjustment. This tripod can easily handle an 8x10 view camera even at full height and precarious angles.

Replaces old part numbers 3058 & 3258.

The built-in mid-level spreader adds anti-torsional rigidity and stops the tripod legs from accidentally being knocked wider apart. Compared to a ground-level spreader or dolly, the mid-level spreader has the advantage that it stays well out of the mud and dirt and is more suitable for use on uneven terrain.
The geared center column allows for safe and precise height adjustments.
The three set screws in the camera platform can be used to permanently secure the head to the tripod, providing additional security.
The twist locks are slightly slower to use than the more common "Quick Action" flip lever leg locks, but give total control over locking force. In addition, they are much easier to service out in the field.

Comments about Manfrotto 161MK2B Super Pro Tripod Legs (Black):

I use the Super Pro indoors and out. The adjustable feet go from rubber to spike quickly. With the support rods connected to the center column and the legs, the adjustments make a rock-solid base at any height in the range. And the maximum height adjustment, to almost nine feet with tripod head, requiring a ladder or other means to raise oneself that high, provides just as steady an arrangement as if one set to the minimum 17-inches. So the the tripod is perfect for high-angle group shots or low-angle macro shots in the outdoors. Neither wind nor ordinary vibration affect the solid settings. One cannot in good conscience complain this is a heavy tripod. One gets this tripod BECAUSE it is heavy (around 20-lbs with head, more with camera.

Comments about Manfrotto 161MK2B Super Pro Tripod Legs (Black):

Very good Tripod, is made for doing what its meant to be, i think its the most stable tripod on the market.

Pros: Can carry very heavy stuff, like medium and large format cameras, big lenses, astronomy equipment. Very stable. Has a wide range of height.

Cons: This thing is like a tank, extremely heavy, not for very long walks in the field.

Coclusion: It gets 4 stars because of the weight, the rest is just perfect, couldnt be better i think

When using telescopes or big binoculars the 161's hold their own. Heavy? Yes, you want a stable platform for highpower observing with alt/az mount heads.

Comments about Manfrotto 161MK2B Super Pro Tripod Legs (Black):

I have a variety of monopods and tripods, including carbon fiber, but for times when you need a tall platform for large groups (such as at a conference when you can't put the audience on risers, or a school class), the extra height is great for keeping a steady, blur-free base. Because of the height and the climb down from a step ladder required to adjust the bottom legs, the geared center column lets me provide a foot's worth of adjustment quickly. When I'm using larger glass, such as my 800mm when birding, I load it up with the heavy glass, a large DSLR, and a solid gimbal-type head that itself adds several more pounds. The geared column and locking crossbars add safety when dealing with heavy loads especially, as the crossbars prevent the weight from splaying out the legs and collapsing, and the geared column a way of adjusting height without the risk of one of the leg sections getting away from you and collapsing. The legs are aluminum, but apparently have some steel components, as others I've seen in the field have rusty screws, especially the coastal area where I use this. A thorough cleaning with a damp cloth after outdoor use, and storage in a bag is advised.

Not only it's a great tripod by itself, but if you use the Manfrotto 325N Video Head Adapter Bowl for a 100mm Bowl it becomes an excellent video tripod!! (if you need a 75mm to 100mm Bowl Adapter get the Manfrotto 319)

Comments about Manfrotto 161MK2B Super Pro Tripod Legs (Black):

I bought this to hold a gimbal head for shooting eagles and other wildlife. I didn't want light and flimsy, I wanted heavy and solid. Boy is this thing both. I feel like I could hit it with a car and still not get flapping on it.
I've done a 2 mile hike with it and towards the end, the tripod with a gimbal head, 1DmkIIn, and Bigma started to get a bit on the heavy end. However, it's an easy setup and solid as a rock.
