I purchased this to put on a Bogen/Manfrotto 679 monopod. The monopod comes with a screw mount but it's fixed in place. This head allows you to pivot the camera up and down (or sideways). Many people prefer this type over a ballhead because with a monopod, you can easily turn the pod itself, so this makes positioning the camera a little less complicated.

This head is simple and easy to use. It's medium-weight for its size and fits nicely on my 679. Even with the head in place, the monopod is still nicely balanced. A heavier head would make the pod topheavy.

The head is heavy enough to secure my Canon 40D and a 70-300mm IS lens (my largest) without moving.

The version I bought has a QR plate. On a monopod, a QR system is especially nice since I typically pop the camera on and off it numerous times, while I tend to mount a camera once on a tripod and leave it for awhile. The plate fits securely on my Canon and isn't annoying if I leave it in place while hand-holding. The plate slips in and is held very securely.

This head has a double-lock. There's the main flip-catch, but there's also a rotating pin lock as a safety. If you put the pin in place, the flip-lock won't release--so you can't accidently release the camera if you bump the release. You can, however, leave the pin unengaged if you don't want the safety. I like having the choice.

All in all I'm very happy with it.

I have a Bogen 2541 6x carbon fibre monopod, and I bought this head through several recommendations. It's solid and works well for what it does, but I'm severely disappointed with the range of motion. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm surprised that there's so many 5 star reviews with this fact. If you set it so you can switch from vertical to horizontal, the only way to tilt your field of view up or down is to physically tilt the monopod, which limits being able to look low or high.I wouldn't necessarily say it's heavy, but compared to my monopod it is. It's 50% of the total weight. I won't consider that a con.

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

I love this Tilt Head. It is far superior to a Ball Head when used on a monopod. Ball heads work best on tripods. This head allows you to move (mostly) from horizontal to vertical camera positions. Other angles can be obtained by tilting the monopod

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

Easy to use should be the title of this review. This tilt head is lightweight considering it has a quick release. It's not a ballhead but I don't need one for a monopod. Although I have not had much time to use this head on my new Manfrotto Monopod, I love it's simplicity. On a side note, the head came without the quick release in it's package. I called B&H, and they sent a replacement without hesitation. As of today I don't have anything negative to report.

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

I shoot primarily sports and the swivel head provides a great way to hold my 400mm lens using the Manfrotto 294 Carbon Fiber Monopod. The head swivels evenly even though I keep it under a slight pressure so that I don't swivel wildly with the movement of the camera when keeping up with the action. The camera attachment is both secure and allows me to remove/install the camera quickly

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

It's a good head. The only thing when I used it over a the weekend for a film shoot, it wouldn't tighten easily. You have to really "crank it down" to get it in a position where it won't move on you, not matter how hard you try.

But I usually don't mind it having a slight give with enough force, for a quick tilt up or down for the unexpected shots that require either of those movements.

I shot with the head on the camera body and had it connected to a 100-400mm lens.

It works. I like it. I will continue to use it.

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

I use this with the 682B Manfrotto Self Standing Monopod. It really helps bridge the gap between the versatility of a tripod & the convenience of a monopod. It's quick & easy to attach & lets you make great adjustments to your shots without having to tip the whole monopod forward or backward. Not too heavy considering the quality of the construction. I leave it on the monopod at all times. The base plate is really easy to attach to the camera, & it's small enough that it doesn't cover up the battery opening on my Canon T3i, so I can change the battery without having to remove the camera.

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

I am using this product atop the Manfrotto 682B Professional Monopod (also a great product). However, this Tilt Head is specifically manufactured for use on monopods ... so ... any monopod will do. It does NOT have to be a Manfrotto monopod (but, they do match).

This is the VERY BEST tilt head I have EVER used on a monopod, of any brand, end of story.

It is beautifully designed ... extremely well-made ... solid ... easy to use.

This combination, the 682B monopod + the 234RC Tilt Head, may be the very best combination I have ever used.

Oh, I almost forgot ... the Manfrotto 200PL Quick Release Plate is very well made, solid, with a smaller "foot-print" than others, which I have used.

The attachment to the head is very solid, with a "secondary safety lock" as Manfrotto describes it.
I find the "safety lock" particularly reassuring. With that properly in place, and the plate properly attached to the camera, it is a very secure attachment to the tilt head / monopod.

When on a walking tour for photos, your monopod serves as a good walking stick, but with the quick release base from the head already attached to the camera, you are prepared to take immediately that not to be missed shot. If in rough country, the sturdily built head is not easily damaged by a bang. The verical movement is easy and quick

I use this on top of my MM294A4 monopod for my kids sports events. Could be used for night shots, sports, wildlife or any other application where you need to rest the camera on something movable.

I've been using manfrotto quick release plates on both my dslr's since purchasing my manfrotto tripod. This has made using my monopod a chore. This head allows me to quickly shift to my monopod. It's sturdy and works as expected.

I have been looking for a head for my monopod that would give me Manfroto RC2 Quick Connect and easy changing from landscape to portrait. It works great!

Comments about Manfrotto 234RC Tilt Head for Monopods, with Quick Release:

Bought this to be used together with the Manfrotto 680B monopod. Definitely worth the purchase, makes mounting and dismounting the camera much simpler, with an easy mechanism. The Tilt head is also fully sufficient with a monopod, with a tripod I would have probably gotten a ball-head.

Exactly what I expected it would be. Perfect for use with my new Manfrotto monopod, and the best part is that it came with its own camera mounting plate.
