I am a professional and use the unit on a ball head in my studio. This also works on my Bogen tripod head as well so I can quickly switch between cameras. Much faster than changing lenses. I like to keep things simple.I have nothing negative to say about it. But it is greatly improved over the origal with lighter weight and better gripping on the bottome of the camera. The older one requires much more tension to gain the same holding ability.

Comments about Manfrotto 030-14 Hexagonal Quick Release Plate with 1/4"-20 Screw:
I recently bought some new hexagonal tripod mounting plates for my older style Bogen ball head. I thought long and hard about buying a new ball head which I have had on my want list for several years. I am mounting a Nikon D700 with MD 10 grip, an 80-200 Nikkor lense and a Kirk mount. That is quite a bit of wieght to hang on a tripod expecially at 90 degrees to the side. The mounts hold solidly even when I carry the setup on my tripod over the shoulder. The great thing is that I rediscovered how well built my old bogen medium mono ball is. I bought extra plates because I sometimes mount an aluminum platform to hold my projector on the tripod as well as my D300 and my Nikkor 80-400 lense. I like the Arca Swiss types of plates better, and someday I may buy that Cadalic of a ball head on my wish list, but for now I will be content to enjoy using what I already have.

Comments about Manfrotto 030-14 Hexagonal Quick Release Plate with 1/4"-20 Screw:
I inherited a BOGEN (now Manfrotto) Model 3040 tripod from my father back when he was a pro photographer and shot for a living. For the longest time it has been just sitting in the corner of my room collecting dust because all that was missing was this mounting plate. Now that I have it, I can use the tripod! It has given the tripod life again so to speak (like a phoenix rising from the ashes), and it fits perfectly on the head of it! Should serve me well for years to come, especially since it's made of heavy metal. One other small note, the difference between this one, (1/4"-20 Screw) and the one labeled as "flat bottom" is just that; this one has that small screw on the bottom of it, whereas the other one doesn't and is just flat on the bottom. Guess it depends what kind of head you're using.

Comments about Manfrotto 030-14 Hexagonal Quick Release Plate with 1/4"-20 Screw:
I bought two of these quick release mounting plates, one to replace a plate from which the mounting screw had been lost and another for a spare. The mounting screw has a keeper to prevent it from separating from the quick release plate but one of mine failed or was lost and, thus the mounting screw was lost rendering that mounting plate useless. It would be nice if one could just buy a replacement screw

I was surprised to learn that B&H had the part in stock. I was ready to buy a new tripod or tripod head. The replacement part has a rubber platform grip that is much better then the original part. Thanks B&H for having the item in stock and saving me some money in the process.

After 20+ years of dependable service, the 1/4-20 set screw wiggled it's way out of the Quick Release Plate during transport and was lost. Had that not happened, the Quick Release Plate would have lasted forever. The Manfrotto tripod head and legs are still perfect.
