For the price its great, and it can get the job done, but don't expect super stability and at times it can be slightly uncomfortable.

I do however get the best use from my Stedi- Stock when coupled with a smaller video camcorder with flip out screen.

When coupled with my DSLR for video it's usually with the shoot and go assignments. Like music videos or at the occasional weddings or anything that acquires B-Roll Footage.

I bought this for a wedding video I shot and it worked well. The footage is obviously still handheld but this made it watchable. Before my DSLR would be all over the place while focusing and adjusting the dials. This simplified that. Its only $20 and between this and rigging my camera strap around my neck it was pretty darn stable. This isnt a steadycam rig so dont buy this expecting that or a zacuto shooter. Duh! Its plastic and just a bit better than holding with your own hands. I think using a tripod head on this would work well and add more control.

Comments about Stedi-Stock Shoulder Brace (Black):

I sometimes shoot DSLR video from a helicopter so I bought this because it was very inexpensive and lightweight. It is quick to set up and comfortable on the shoulder. I use cameras with flip out screens so an eyepiece works quite well with the stock. In addition I can clamp the stock between my body and arm for steadier low level shots. A minor issue is that the front part is a little sharp on the palm of the hand focusing and zooming. This will stay in my bag as a quick video rig. Definitely worth the money.

This device is too small and flimsy to be much use. It came free with my spotting scope, and I can not hold the scope to my eye comfortably with it. I tried it with my Canon DSLR, and again, the geometry is just wrong. In both cases, it did not feel ready to support the weight I was putting on it.

This product is a must for bird photographers.
It allows the user to use his/her body as a tripod for shooting up into the trees.
It's very portable with only initial set-up required unlike a mono-pod or tripods if the bird keeps moving.
Ideal for photographers on the move like bush-walkers.
I use it with a Nikon D7000 & 55~300mm lens without a problem. Being plastic it is as light as a feather.

Comments about Stedi-Stock Shoulder Brace (Black):

I was a little surprised at the simplicity and flimsy of this stedi stock. Wish I would have seen it on a shelf somewhere. To pay that much for a couple pieces of molded plastic and a bolt. I could have made one out of a 2x4 with a Dremel tool and a drill. It does the job, but the plastic is on the thin side. I'm almost afraid to crank down the camera and put too much pressure on it.

Comments about Stedi-Stock Shoulder Brace (Black):

This product is great for supporting and steadying a big telephoto lens when shooting fast-moving action. It's very simple to use, and it really works. My bird photography, hand-holding a 400mm lens while sitting in a kayak, has improved tremendously using this little gadget. It's lightweight and a little bit flex-y, but that doesn't take away from its ability to help manage a heavy hand-held lens.

Comments about Stedi-Stock Shoulder Brace (Black):

A simple, inexpensive idea that works to stabilize your camera telephoto lens by reducing your handheld motion. The mount is flexible so I was able to move my camera close enough to my eye to use the viewfinder. Placing a small piece of material between the lens and the Stedi-Stock allows me to operate the manual zoom lens without interference from the stock.

It's small so it doesn't resemble a weapon.

Overall, the Stedi-Stock reduced handheld motion blur in my telephoto lens slightly more than I could do by instead carefully bracing my elbows on my chest and pressing the camera against my eye.

Comments about Stedi-Stock Shoulder Brace (Black):

Sure, I want a fully adjustable shoulder mount with all the fixin's. Who doesn't? But that's crazy: they're stupid expensive and no one is making a super basic, cheap option.Enter, the Stedi-Stock.Sure there are cons. The plastic will bend if you're really muscle it into your chest. It's not a shoulder mount, but a chest-brace. It's not going to eliminate all your DSLR shake. And it can be tricky to adjust settings and keep stable, since you only have one, small center grip. But it accomplishes a lot. It provides just enough stability for walking and shooting, which is a huge barrier to DSLR video quality. And it's super small and portable for on-the-go shooters. And it's [$]

Comments about Stedi-Stock Shoulder Brace (Black):

I am a videographer that uses a dslr camera for filming. I have been searching for the right items for a rig stystem that fit my needs.

I added this stedi-shock shoulder brace to my rig and am very pleased. People complain about the item because it is plastic... I have no complaints. I have gone all plastic in my choice of rig-wear because, for my films, I need to be able to move quickly and be able to shoot for long periods of time. The plasic is very durable and beneficially light. Also, the strap that comes with the item allows a very easy and casual transport between shots and in crowds.

Another plus is that an adapter is given so that you can just use the hand piece without the shoulder stock.

My only compliant is that this system is not mountable to a tripod with the stedi-stock still attached.

All in all, this item does what you buy it to do.

Comments about Stedi-Stock Shoulder Brace (Black):

I bought this for a wedding video I shot and it worked well. The footage is obviously still handheld but this made it watchable. Before my DSLR would be all over the place while focusing and adjusting the dials. This simplified that. Its only $20 and between this and rigging my camera strap around my neck it was pretty darn stable. This isnt a steadycam rig so dont buy this expecting that or a zacuto shooter. Duh! Its plastic and just a bit better than holding with your own hands. I think using a tripod head on this would work well and add more control.

This should be $1 at the most. Very flexible and there's nothing "stedi" about it.
It's to short, not adjustable, handle does not provide enough thread to the camera, cheaply made etc.
Don't buy it or you will throw it away.

Its a good system for getting the camera somewhat stable...however, jitters from walking are still very evident. I would not trust this to reduce violent shake from shooting inside vehicles (as demonstrated in the product video)Marginal reduction in shaky camera syndrome is noticeable. Could use a counterweight on the back stock to help give more stabilization. What do you expect for [$]tho?

I purchased the Stedi-Stock specifically for use in filming DSLR Video. For [$] you can't ask for much more. Its lightweight (because its plastic) yet sturdy and comes with its own shoulder strap. The handle has a threaded screw on top that fits through one of 3 vertical holes on the front end of the stock allowing you to screw on your DSLR or Camcorder via its threaded tripod mount, tightening the assembly in the process. Considering that the least expensive alternative is a $500+ DSLR rig, I think that this is a great buy and I would recommend this product. I gave it four stars because its reasonably priced, adjustable, came with a shoulder strap, and did everything it said it would.

This product is relatively inexpensive when compared to other stabilization options for DSLRs (most of them starting at $200+). I will admit it to be a little plasticky, a better handle grip would make it well worth the $30. I use this on my Canon Rebel T2i, and so far I like it!

I use my Canon 7d with the Stedi-Stock to make several of my videos. Obviously its not one of the best stabilizers but its great for tight places that a shoulder mount unit can't fit in, and if you're on a small budget the Stedi-Stock makes a huge different to just holding your camera with your hands. It does take a little getting used to and you need to hold it quite firm into your shoulder. The plastic is a little flimsy, but you are spending less than $25 bucks for this unit. I give it thumbs up for the price and the compatibility.

Compact and solid, I found this brace great for simple video shooting with the Canon 7D. The handle could have better grip, but it gets the job done.
