I often use my tripod on sand and snow which is why I got these. They are easy on and off and fit just right in my tripod bag pouch. I was using my tripod at a building with foam rubber floors for cainine performance events. The normal rubber tips sink into the floor and cause wobble which the add on shoes promtly fixed along with eliminating any tendency to slide. Besides the building management is touchy about tears caused by retractable spikes.

I do a lot of landscape photography in snowy areas and bought these to keep my tripod from sinking into the snow. However, they didn't work very well for the following reasons:
- Too large: when folding the tripod these shoes get in the way very much
- Fall off: pulling my tripod out of the snow often meant the feet fell off. and on a few occasions, they fell off while hiking to a location
- Tripod rubber stops: these shoes often pulled off the rubber ends on my tripod
-Slipping: the feet often slipped up the leg of the tripod because they flipped vertical vs staying horizontal. When vertical, there is nothing to keep the feet in place at the end of the tripod legs. This happened ALL THE TIME because the rubber cord that holds them on the tripod does not work well for keeping them in place, and it also doesn't work too well for keeping them attached to the tripod leg.

If you photograph on sand, these could be very good, but for snow they were nearly useless.

I saw someone with small baskets (like ski pole baskets or a birdie from lawn games) attached to their tripod and it seemed like the perfect fit because they were small, could bend when the tripod was folded, and yet they did a good job for holding the tripod on top of the snow. I plan to buy these as soon as I can find where to get them.

Used on a square two inch mesh platform. The shoes are large enough to provide stability without falling through the mesh. The tripod needed to have weight added so the feet would not slide on steel mesh. one could have used tennis balls, but the shoes has more uses, i.e. on sand and snow.

So far it feels like a very nice product to shoot on loose ground (sand/snow). I have not tried it yet, but I think it should be a good one on the beach. Besides, its a necessary thing to mount sorbothane under your tripod in case you have vibration from the ground to reduce. However, I am not sure how durable the rubber strap is. I wish it had a better locking mechanism than a rubber strap.

the tripod shoes are great for stability when the ground is uneven and prone to shifting....like sand or mud....When you have thousands of dollars of camera and lenses, and you are on a questionable surface, you really appreciate these shoes.

I purchased these for an upcoming Yellowstone trip. They are easy to install and remove, fit a variety of tripods that I own and seem to be exactly the right thing for my purposes. I'm sure they'll function just as well in soft sand or other sketchy surfaces. Very happy with this purchase. Work on monopod as well, (naturally) so they'll get double duty there.

Gave it 4 stars. Well made and will suit someones use.

When taking pictures on the beaches, my tripod would slowly sink in the sand until the legs were into the damp sand. Or one leg sinks faster than the others making the camera off level. The shoes stop the sinking and seem to make the tripod a little sturdier with the broader leg base.
My only possible con is the life of the rubber clamp that Manfrotto uses but time will tell. But they are cheap enough that that this might not be a problem.

Comments about Manfrotto 230 (3255) All Weather Tripod Shoes (Set of 3):

The last time I took y Gitzo tripod to a beach I ended up getting sand grains in the twist-lock mechanisms of the lower legs - ugh. When I read about these "tripod snowshoes" I had to give them a try, and I'm glad i did.

They are very easy to attach to the leg-ends; a thick rubber cord wraps around the end of the leg (any size or brand) and locks back onto the "shoe" - at first I was concerned as to whether they would stay put when I lifted the tripod to walk around a bit but that fear was unfounded - they hung on without issue.

And most important was the additional stability they gave the tripod in the sand - where previously I had to contend with one or more of the legs continually sinking into the sand, with the shoes attached the tripod behaved as if it were on solid ground. I put as much weight as possible on the top of the tripod before attaching my camera and it didn't budge. An added bonus, of course, was that no sand got into the moving parts of the legs.

I first bought a set to use in the snow but found they also are great to use to help reduce vibrations. I tape a 2" thick foam pad to each shoe when I'm videoing on a surface that has vibrations. What a differenc it can make in the video.

Comments about Manfrotto 230 (3255) All Weather Tripod Shoes (Set of 3):

These all weather tripod shoes are great for use in sand and snow. They are inexpensive yet well made and will fit most if not all tripod legs. While I had expected a clamping ring to secure the shoe to the leg, I am still pleased with the rubber tether. Even without the tether, the feet would still support the tripod in soft substrate.

I used to use a 4inch by 4 inch piece of wood under each tripod leg as a spread footing, when I was surveying in sand or mud.

These shoes make lifting the tripod so much easier. I also like the fact that they fit over the rubber feet, rather than screw in (as some similar, dedicated name brand products do), which prevents sand and water from entering the legs.

My camera sits securly and I feel confident about the stability and sturdiness of these shoes.

I own a 600mm Canon lens and like to photograph Bald Eagles, etc. In the winter, I'm forced to place my tripod on the snow and with the weight of the tripod, gimbal, lens and camera, one or more of the tripod legs is bound to sink in the snow chancing a costly tipover. Works as well in the mud too.The snowshoes prevent this from happening. Very well made and at [$], it is very cheap insurance for your investment.I strongly recommend this product for the reasons mentioned above.

I use the tripod shoes to photograph winter landscapes. The shoes are easy to install and remove, and their relatively large size provide a stable base for the tripod, preventing the legs from sinking too deep and from splaying. The tripod is a little awkward to carry with the shoes on, but this can be solved by putting them on right before using the tripod.

I thought to use these on beach sand with my large, heavy 190 tripod. But I have found them most useful on carpet! They spread out the contact area on carpet and make the tripod much more solid and stable.

They are a bit big to lug about unless you have a really large tripod bag, but at add very little weight. But when faced with thick carpet, these seem to work wonders. When trying to level and forced to use a living room as your "studio" even a major tripod can rock an irritating amount on carpet with the small foot contact area.
