I got a pair of these for location recording use with Schoeps mics. Looking for a shock mount that was more 'finish friendly' on the Schoeps than the standard Schoeps shock mounts. (The Nextel bodies are easy to scratch.) While I like these better, the clips are very tight and there is a slight ridge from the mould that would mar the finish on the mics. After some work with 400-grit sandpaper to smooth them, they work well. Recommended overall, and a pretty good value.

this was probably one of the worst pieces of gear i could have spent money on. despite being an over-priced piece of plastic, the knob does not keep enough tension on it to remain in position, with or without a mic in it. i've pulled it apart and put it back together again and cinched down on the screw, but a few moves up or down and it collapses again. for a few dollars more, purchase one of Rode's pistol grips and you'll be able to use the mic in more than one fashion, either hand held or on the end of a boom. for my money, that's a better option. sorry rycote, i'm a big fan of many of your other products, but this one fails my test.

Very good isolation, very well built and durable. Rubber grommets (?) protect my MKH416. Highly recommended. Why does a similar product from Neumann cost[$]??? I've never understood the pricing models for shock mounts :)

Comments about Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting:

Thought we could do without a shock mount but the rough handling of student grips on the fiberglass boom was a re-occurring problem. GREAT FIX! Now handling noise is NON-EXISTENT!

Comments about Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting:

I had been using a cheap shock mount. Then I upgraded my dialog mic (Audix SCX1) and started hearing rumbling due to handling noise transmitted to the mic through my cheap shock mount. Changing to this mount, along with an XLR cable upgrade, and attaching the cable to the supplied clip, along with a bit more care in booming, completely silenced the rumble.

Comments about Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting:

Used with the Oktava MK-012 and Rycote Baby Ball Gag Windshield.
I was a little disappointed and worried at how bendy and flimsy it felt when I first got it but after several boom swinging jobs, it's still holding up (noise free) even with the fairly bulky windshield hanging off of it.
Could be a little more solid but at least there's a shock mount out there for such a small mic such as the Oktava.

Comments about Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting:

I bought this to use with our Sennheiser MKH 416 and the boom we purchased to film our webseries. It is very light and seems to work as it is designed; it holds the mic firmly and works as a quality shockmount should.

My only quarrel is that it feels quite flimsy for the price, but I can't complain as it performs flawlessly.

Comments about Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting:

When I just started out doing location sound on web shoots, I had a Pearstone shock mount that came with one of the B&H kits. I was gentle with the boom, but still noticed some occasional handling noise.

After doing some reading online, I decided to replace the Pearstone with the InVision. It's such a ridiculous difference, I wish I hadn't waited so long. Not only is it significantly easier to switch out mics, but it's also quieter, which is paramount.

There's really nothing left to say. This is a legitimate upgrade without the usual price hikes that are associated with pro upgrades.

I have a pair of DPA 2011a, which length is 147mm(5.8inch). This microphone set doesn't come with proper shock mount. This INV-7 holds my microphone properly and I can easily adjust the position and angle.
Also, it does come with 3/8 to 5/8 converter so don't worry about it.

I can mount my NTG-2 mic on it and point it to any direction I like. It stays in position. The built quality seems to be very fragile however. I fear it will break every time I push the mic into the position. With that concern I bought another cheap (a fraction of the cost) version somewhere else as a backup. Overpriced? Oh yeah, definitely.

What can I say? For a piece of plastic it certainly is expensive but it is well designed and more functional than the band mounts you will see. Lots of play for when you are too dumb to hold the boom steady, but the mic is very secure. Might even buy another one.

Comments about Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting:

I've been using my INV-7 for a long time now, probably since they were first released, so maybe 5 or 6 years now... And over that time it has performed amazingly. For sure the quietest suspesion I have ever used. I use it mainly with my Schoeps CMC6/41 setup on the end of a 10' K-Tek carbon fiber pole with internal cabling. The Schoeps is a fairly light mic to begin with and once I replaced the original Rycote, rubber, pistol grip, heavy mount that I was using, a lot of handling noise disapeared. As well as a lot of wieght!
Now after all that time, I have finally broke one of the lyres and need to get some replacement lyres. Not having to buy a whole new mount is truly one of the best features! That's just increadible and the price has pretty much stayed the same as when I bought mine a few years back. A great system for sure and very durable! I can't recomend this enough.

This Mount is Quiet. Maybe Too Quiet.

Comments about Rycote INV-7 InVision Microphone Suspension for Stand and Boompole Mounting:

The Rycote InVision mount is the lightest, quietest mic mount I have ever used. The INV-7 is perfect for my shorter, lighter mics like my Schoeps system. It is silent even during rapid cueing and isolates all but the roughest handling noise. If you are swinging the pole all day, you know how a few ounces at the end of the pole can feel like pounds after 10 hours. This system is extremely light.
I will reserve judgement on durability - as I have only had mine a few weeks now. Time will tell. It seems to buckle a bit too much with the weight of a longer mic and a heavier Rycote softie. But overall I am pleased. My biggest complaint is that I sometimes use it in a wireless configuration where my boom operator does not have talkback to me. In that set up, my boom op will tap on the pole to confirm he has heard my instructions. With this mount, I can't hear the tap.

Excellent isolation mount. This design is based on recent patents that tested various types of mounting designs and handling noise results. This Invision was one of the best performers. Only gripe would be it should come with 2 or 3 sizers for verious mic diameters. This is a clip style that will hold most mics with small diameters.
