Use of this lens collar with Arca flip lock mounts, while possible, will not yield optimal performance and is not recommend. Use with a Kirk quick release or mount an additional Arca plate to the bottom of the collar for Arca mounts.
The Kirk NC-300 Replacement Lens Collar is specifically designed for the Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S lens. It is designed to provide maximum lens support, with quick, accurate, smooth rotation and positive locking in any position.
Precisely machined from lightweight 6061T6 aluminum, the base is made to fit a Kirk Arca Swiss-type quick release clamp. In addition, instead of only one point of support, the NC-300 provides an additional point of support for the lens at the other end of its plate.

This product is fantastic. The Nikkor 300 f4 AFS is stellar optically. Unfortunately, the tripod colllar that comes with the lens is inadequate because it flexes - leaving photos blurry when shot at slow shutter speeds from a tripod.
I replaced the stock collar with this Kirk product and can now shoot with confidence. I believe that the Kirk collar is absolutely essential for this lens. It is sturdy - and it has two points of contact for the lens - thus ensuring stability.
I am so impressed with this product that I have coerced all of my friends with this lens to upgrade their collars using this Kirk product.
You can use the Kirk collar on standard 1/4" tripod attachment plates or using the dovetailed Arca/Swiss system (much preferred).
The Kirk collar transforms an average lens into an incredible lens.

This collar came highly recomended and I also read terrible comments about the OEM Nikon collar. So, I purchased this collar along with my new 300 f/4 Nikkor. While it gets the job done I can't understand why for such a price important machining details were omitted from the design. For instance this thing will scratch the finish on the lens barrel if you don't carefully chamfer the corners at the hinge AND would it really be too difficult to include provision for a simple E clip to make the locking screw captive so it doesn't try to hit the ground each time you open the collar. Yes, there are many times I prefer to shoot the 300 handheld and the collar needs to be removed. Functional but disappointing.

Comments about Kirk NC-300 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S Lens:
I shoot close-up nature images and wanted the 300mm f4 to get into garden and nature areas. I use Lens Collars to refine my compositions constantly. Upon receiving my 300mm F4 I was extremely disappointed in the stability and overall feel of the stock Nikon collar. Having read that this was an issue for others I did not hesitate to order the Kirk Collar. The stability and ease of adjustments are like night and day compared to the original. Extra cost but the quality and image results will be worth it!
Comments about Kirk NC-300 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S Lens:
A great product that significantly improves on the stability of the original Nikon collar. Highly recommended.

Comments about Kirk NC-300 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S Lens:
Very well thought out, excellent design. Fits precisely, and far more supportive than the Standard Nikon collar the lens comes with. Very happy with this. Better IMO than the RRS as it supports at two points, and is less expensive as well. Must have IMO for Nikon 300mm users who work on a tripod.

Fits straight to my Arca-swiss clamp without the need to fit a QR plate. Is plenty long enough to adjust the balance. It's perfect! Why couldn't Nikon have produced this?

The Kirk is exceptional. No matter the shutter speed, shooting from a tripod, everything is now tack sharp, and instead of feeling like you're rotating into portrait mode through heavy grit sandpaper, with the Kirk the move seems like it's being done in butter coated satin!

Easier to adjust, tighter, built in Arca Swiss style plate so you don't need to buy one if you already have an Arca Swiss style mount. I use this on a gimble head and the combination works great.

Comments about Kirk NC-300 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S Lens:
I`ve read about the Kirk replacement collar for the Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S lens, but thought would it really be that much better?
After mounting it on the lens (which was so easy) and taking a few shots from across the yard of my azalea bush at slow shutter speed, the results were quite impressive. No longer do I have a slightly blurry image viewed at 100% crop due to the vibration of the camera. The collar is sturdy and easy to mount. It also makes for a good handle for those hand-held shots. The two draw-backs I find is that it`s slightly heavier than the stock collar and it doesn`t hook onto my sling-pack while carrying it like the old one did. For the intended use, which is to use with a tripod, it is a great improvement over the stock collar and am glad I purchased it.

Comments about Kirk NC-300 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 300mm f/4 AF-S Lens:
This is a quality product and a big improvement over Nikon's tripod mount. While the Kirk collar has improved the stability of the lens and made it easier to rotate, care still has to be taken to stabilize the rig due to the long focal length of the lens (especially when adding a 1.4x TC). I knocked the Kirk down one star only because I feel that it is overpriced.

I read so many horror stories about the nikon collar that I ordered directly the kirk replacement. Easy to adapt.
