The Kirk NC80-400 Replacement Lens Collar is a replacement lens collar specifically designed for the Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR lens. It is designed to provide maximum lens support, with quick, accurate and smooth rotation, and positive locking in any position.
Precisely machined from lightweight 6061T6 aluminum, the base is made to fit any Acra Swiss-type quick release clamp. In addition, instead of only one point of support, the NC80-400 provides an additional point of support for the lens at the other end of its plate.

Comments about Kirk NC80-400 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR Lens:
A nice replacement for Nikon's original collar, it supports the 80-400mm lens in two places. Another nice feature it has a Gimbal type quick release plate on the bottom and fits my Wimberley tripod head. My only complaint, you cannot reverse the lens hood, it will not fit over the NC80-400 collar a problem when packing it in my bag.

Comments about Kirk NC80-400 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR Lens:
This unique design provides a huge improvement over the Nikon supplied lens collar and foot and was well worth the expense for me. When the lens hood is reversed, the lens must be extended to 400mm, and that can be a problem for storage. This minor inconvenience is mitigated by the lens being supported at two points, unlike other designs available.

Well made but more expensive than justified. No real improvement over the Nikon original collar.

Comments about Kirk NC80-400 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR Lens:
I use the Kirk lens collar on a Nikon 80-400 lens that I had purchased without a tripod collar. I had read on a well known web-site that such a devise existed. I could not be more please.
The collar fit the lens perfectly. It provides two points of support. One point where the collar attaches around the back of the lens and the other near the front of the lens.
The devise has a plate that works very nicely with my off-brand quick release tripod head.
I used the set-up this past weekend in the woods photographing wild flowers and it worked perfectly.
I have nothing bad to say about the product at this time. Only time will tell how robust the construction is, but a this point I am very well pleased.

Comments about Kirk NC80-400 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR Lens:
I broke the collar that came with my lens. I purchased this one, but don't recommend doing so! This one has an added semi-circular support (at the base) that the original does not have. It took me a while to realize that when the collar is on tightly, this was preventing my lens from zooming properly! It was not only preventing it from zooming, but actually pushed my lens out of alignment at the extension point! I had to get my camera repaired! The only way it is usable is if I loosen it enough to zoom and then the camera is not stable! I'm still looking for one similar to the original.

Comments about Kirk NC80-400 Replacement Lens Collar for Nikon 80-400mm f/4.5-5.6 VR Lens:
Very stable positioning on my Manfrotto tripod. The collar suppled by Nikon allowed the front of the lens to 'droop' after aligning the subject unless everything was really tightened.
The Kirk collar supports the lens at two points giving rock solid stability.
Good design and quality machining.
