The AKG Perception 170 Small Diaphragm Microphone is an ideal choice for capturing vocals, instruments and speaker cabinets in recording and sound reinforcement situations. The small diaphragm capsule features a cardioid polar pattern which greatly minimizes off-axis noise and feedback from nearby speakers, instruments, etc. The flat 20 to 20kHz frequency response ensures pristine audio reproduction and the -20dB Pad switch maximizes headroom and minimizes distortion from transient (peak) audio.

Don't let the low price tag scare you away... I bought a pair over two years ago, and I've used them like crazy. I used them mostly for drum overheads, both live and in studio, and they hold their own very well.
I've heard of people complaining because they may get damaged when dropped. It's a condenser, of course it will!
But in my experience with them, they've proved to be durable. Not a problem with them yet!

I use this mic on my Panasonic HVX camcorder. It picks up great sound with little signal noise. Its definitely a lot better than the onboard mic that comes with the camera. Dont let the price fool you, its almost as good as a comparable sennheiser at a fraction of the cost.
