I use this product to plug my HDMI-out camcorder into my Mac for video streaming in Wirecast. The program recognized the signal immediately and there was no set-up or installation required. Perfect HD video right away.

I use this product to stream HD video using my HDMI camcorder through my macbook pro. It works great provided you have software that will recognize the HDV signal. I currently use Wirecast without any problems. The only thing I wish it had was the ability to output 480p to conserve CPU when I don't have a high speed connection.

Comments about Grass Valley ADVC-HD50 Real-Time HDMI to HDV Converter:

It is rare today when trying to do systems integration to have a complex piece of technology plug into a system and "just work." The Grass Valley ADVC-HD50 does just that. We use it to provide HD streaming of events. We connected the HDMI output of our camcorder to it. Then connected the FireWire cable to our Mac and "presto!" No configuration, no hassle. It just works. Best part is the Mac powers it, so no power adapters. Worth every cent.

This is truly a plug and play device. I use it with my Satellite receiver and am able to archive shows that want to keep. Works on my Apple and my PC, it just appears as a video camera attached to the firewire port. HD video records at 1080P and looks perfect. Highly recommended.

Comments about Grass Valley ADVC-HD50 Real-Time HDMI to HDV Converter:

I was looking for a simple way to capture what was happening on the iPad and Android screens for developing software and creating instructional videos for client.

This box was a simple, plug and record to iMovie, with both the iPad and Android. (a little more complex to set up for Android, make sure you have power to the Android and the ADVC box.) The box does an automatic job of determining the input and providing an output to the Mac. Then I used Final Cut Pro to edit and examine the footage.

This has been great for debugging animations on the device and also for providing material for instructional videos.

While it cost is as much as a device, it's way more simple then attempting to use a camera. Power Supply should just be included in the cost of the product. I can carry in my bag with a few cables, easy to set up. So far, no software allows this to happen on the devices.

I bought this unit to archive and free up disk space on my TV recorder. I used it with iMovie and in no time I was backing up in HD.

Only drawback is I couldn't hear the audio as I was transferring but I think that's because of my older laptop.

                      Great product!

This product does what it says: takes in HDMI and outputs HDV via firewire. FinalCut and iMovie picked up our Panasonic Professional AG-HMC40P AVCHD camcorder. FYI: Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder, Windows Media Encoder, and Windows Movie Maker do not yet support HDV, so this product will not work with them. For that, you need a product that down-converts to standard DV, such as the Grassvalley ADVC-55.
