Comments about Manfrotto 152 Female Convertor Socket - 16mm to 17.5mm:
The set screw end is really disappointing. It takes a fair bit of torque to get it to hold tight on a stud, and requires always having a screwdriver around.
It is the only solution for female stud-to-stud adapting that B&H carries for a reasonable price, though.

Comments about Manfrotto 152 Female Convertor Socket - 16mm to 17.5mm:
I needed a coupler between two 5/8" studs and this does the job. As you can see from the photo, only one end has a knob while the other has a set screw. Not so good if you need a quick release but in my case I put some medium strength thread locker on the set screw so it could not loosen on its own.
All metal construction but the tubing is cast metal not machined. Still it's durable enough for my application.

Comments about Manfrotto 152 Female Convertor Socket - 16mm to 17.5mm:
The item works just as it is supposed to....I find it inconvenient that it only has one thumb screw. So if I need to use it for another application I have to find a small screw driver....oh well.
