The Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Small is designed to fits a digital SLR camera with a mid-range zoom lens attached, 1-2 extra lenses and accessories. It uses TST RIB structural protection for the equipment. The pack has three carrying options in one; changing from sling to "X" position to backpack and back again. It is fast and easy by using the quick release buckles. The bottom main compartment of the pack holds equipment and uses the modular dividers to custom fit the bag, The large top compartment will hold personal gear or additional gear and it has internal pockets and a MP3 player pouch.

Two external zippered pockets allow quick access to accessories without opening the main compartments. In sling position, the bag easily swings around from back to front to achieve quick draw access to the main camera and extra lenses. In backpack position and "X" position, the equipment can be comfortably carried for long distances. The included chest belt and balancing hip strap help take the load of heavy equipment off the shoulders. The included rain cover folds neatly away into an integrated pocket and can be hung out to dry on the small buckle next to the handle, or tucked away for storage in one of the pockets.

I bought this bag in anticipation of a trip where I knew I was going to be traveling around a lot (plane, train, bus), as well as walking around during the day. I wanted a small bag that wouldn't be too bulky to carry around all day everyday, as well as being a carry-on for plane travel. I also wanted the ability to easily and quickly pull my camera from the bag. Overall this bag fit the bill very well. What I had in the bag on a usual day was: Nikon D200 with attached 18-105 3.5 lens, 80-200 4.5 lens, and bag weather cover (comes with bag) in the main (bottom) pocket; Casio Exilm point-and-shoot, and spare memory cards in one of the upper side pockets; some snack items in the top pocket (I was able to stuff a spare shirt in here in a pinch); and an aluminum water bottle clipped on the metal ring on the back of the bag.

    Pros:
    * This bag is very light. I was worried I had left items out on numerous occasions.
    * Metal rings on back of bag and bottom of straps makes it easy to clip on a water bottle.
    * Comfortable to carry fully loaded including water bottle. I was worried about this when ordering since the straps did not appear very think or padded particularly well, but I carried the bag for a three hour hike, and while traveling around the airports without any trouble at all.
    * While being worn as a backpack it is easy to swing the bag around and pull out the camera.

    Cons:
    * While I was expecting a small bag this bag is smaller than I expected. This isn't really a con, as there are multiple other sizes, but it's just something to be aware of. If you want to carry any more gear than I've mentioned you should get one of the larger sizes.
    * The included weather cover does not have a designated pouch as it does on Lowepro bags. This means space that could be used for a flash or another lens must be sacrificed if you want to bring the weather cover and the top pocket is also full.
    * I loved this bag as a carry on; it was easy to carry around the airport, and allowed for legroom even when under the plane seat, however the bag's size and shape are not conducive to holding magazines for reading on the flight.
    * Wearing the bag for longer hikes can get a little hot and sweaty. It would be nice if the material on the back of the bag was a little more breathable, definitely not a deal-breaker though.

As you can see most of these cons would be solved by ordering one of the larger options, but it was hard to tell exactly what would fit in the bag and what wouldn't just by looking online so I wanted to make note of them just to give other people an idea of the bag's size. Otherwise I loved the bag and would highly suggest it.

Functionality, this bag is fantastic. You have the benefit of wearing it as a right or left handed sling or normal 2 strap backpack. Enough room for body and 2 medium length lenses. Look is great, contruction great.

Unfortunately, this bag is a bit too small for my set up and in hindsight would have liked to have gone with another bag. I have a canon 40d body w/ battery grip so the camera is a bit of a tight fit in the pouch. The straps arent padded well enough so are a bit uncomfortable after a long period.

This is NOT a long wear bag or day pack...It only has room for your camera, 2 lenses, and a small amount of accessories. As I stated its a bear neccessities kind of backpack...but the construction, feel, and look are amazing!

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Small:

I bought this bag for its versatility in how you wear it. I had previously ordered a sling-only bag for its ease in accessing your equipment. I quickly found that my left shoulder could not handle all that weight. I like this bag because you can wear it as a backpack for long hikes or as a sling. I mainly use it as a backpack. I had a little trouble trying to configure the compartment to fit my equipment. I have a Nikon D90 with a 55-300 lens and it just fits. I can also fit a smaller lens and a small video camera in the main compartment, though I find them a little more difficult to access. The top compartment for personal items is small -- you might be able to fit a couple of sandwiches and a soda can (lying down). I probably could have gone with the medium bag to have a little more room, but I didn't want anything too cumbersome. I don't plan on needing more than 2 lenses at a time, so I think this is the right choice for me. So if you only plan on having the bare necessities with you, this is the bag for you.

This is a great design for a bag, however, it is a bit smaller than I expected. I can fit my camera with a 17-55 lens attached another small lens and a flash unit, but that is all. If I had to order again I think I would go up one size, but overall I am very satisfied.

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Small:

This bag is great to take a large slr camera, flash as well as other necessary equipment (fliters, extra lens....). Whats also great about this bag is that it has a nice space on top for personal items that you may need if going on an all day job. The bag has tons of zippers so that you can access on thing at a time without opening the entire bag. It is also very easy to take out your camera without putting the bag down. The straps have many different positions to be worn but if the bag is full it is the most comfortable using as a traditional backpack with both straps. Overall great bag for on the go but not a bag that you can store all your equipment in it, it's not large enough for that.

This is a great little bag. It fits my D7000 18 105 perfectly. It has multiple straps/buckles that allow for multiple configurations. While the size is rather small, it's perfect when you just need to bring a little bit of equipment. It's also built very well, with sturdy nylon and padded straps.

The conversion between a backpack and a sling is the best thing here for traveling and safety of my camera.
The waterproof cover gives me the peace of mind for going out. All the compartments are well padded, easily accessible, yet have safety measures to keep the pockets form accidentally opening.

The bag allows really for a one body, one primary lens, one backup or prime, and one flash. there is room on top for a bit more but it is really for light travel, or walk-around shooting.

A great product - versatile, very handy to make my 7D as portable as a point-and-shoot, also fits a spare lens... Comfortable to wear and durable - carried it around Europe for a month now and its definitely worth the cost. I just wish the top compartment was a little bigger to carry a few more things. Perhaps a hook or strap on the front to hold a small tripod would be an improvement too.

I use this a small get around bag i have my 500d with bat grip and a 24-105 l series lense attached with my 70-300 stored and 10-24 stored. bag is great cause provides easy access but can cause you to fiddle aa bit to get the camera out a few too many zips and clips. Bag sits well on your back but not a fan of the sling. plenty of room

                        I use the 3n1 with a Nikon D80, SB600 flash, 50mm, and 70-300 lenses.

First the materials are nicer IMO than most of the competition. The workmanship is high quality and zippers and buckles are seemingly durable.

Usability may leave something to be desired. I like the layout of the main compartment and I'm sure in time it will become easier to use, but my initial impression is that I wish it was easier to open.

Product is useful but there was not much of an explanation on how to set-up the storage compartment using the velcro dividers.

Easy way to hike with camera, and retrieve it fairly easily. Takes a little practice to find the best way to pack and access the equipment, but much better than a regular backpack or camera bag.

I use this bag with a Canon EOS 40D and 28-135 lens and spare fish eye lens. The 40D and 28-135 lens fits in the bag really tight, and my only real gripe is that it is not as quick to get it out of the bag as I would have liked, as they are 2 buckles and a zipper that needs to be undone. The quality of the material and workmanship is really nice and the top compartment is adequate for small accessories and/or snacks. I would not use this bag with anything more than 1 SLR and 2 lenses and very little else as it is really small.

This camera bag is good for one SLR and a good handfull of acccessories. There are multiple compartments, which are handy and useful. The dividers in the main compartment are infitiely adjustable, but I have not figured a way to arrange them to make interior sections as accessible as the main section where the camera is. The single strap works well for hiking and general walkiing, especially with the belly belt, which keeps it all very snug and secure. After some practice, I was able to get my camera out from the back position in a few seconds. The bag is a little awkward if you don't wear the strap across the chest, like if you have it over one shoulder. Materials of construction and finish are all great.
