The Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium is designed to fit a digital SLR camera with a mid-range zoom lens attached, 3-4 extra lenses and accessories. It uses TST RIB structural protection for the equipment. The pack has three carrying options in one; changing from sling to "X" position to backpack and back again. It is fast and easy by using the quick release buckles. The bottom main compartment of the pack holds equipment and uses the modular dividers to custom fit the bag. The large top compartment will hold personal gear or additional gear, and it has internal pockets and a MP3 player pouch.

Two external zippered pockets allow quick access to accessories without opening the main compartments. In sling position, the bag easily swings around from back to front to achieve quick draw access to the main camera and extras lenses. In backpack position and "X" position, the equipment can be comfortably carried for long distances. The included chest belt and balancing hip strap help take the load of heavy equipment off the shoulders. The included rain cover folds neatly away into an integrated pocket and can be hung out to dry on the small buckle next to the handle, or tucked away for storage in one of the pockets.

I have been a bit of a bag [*] since i started shooting. i cant count the number i have had. it is very hard to find the perfect bag to fit every use. i was really looking for one bag to have with me all the time. i was working out of two bags and it was always a pain to figure out where to put my prime equipment and what to keep in the secondary bag. i carry everyday, but only the main bag. i started with the Kata #30, which i loved, but it was just too big to carry every day. if i traveled a lot, i would have kept it, because i could literally keep everything in it. however, it was just too big for what i needed. i sent it back to B&H and exchanged for the #20. (B&H, as always, was great about the return) i do love this bag. i can still fit tons of stuff in there (Nikon D80, 18-135 lens, 50 mm prime lens, two SB800s, macro lens, wide angle lens, Picture Porter Elite, etc, etc, etc. Also can fit all my cords, filters, pens, memory cards and chargers. The only thing that i have trouble fitting is my Justin Clamp. the best thing about this bag, besides how much it holds, is the fact that it can be carried so many ways. it is called 3-N-1, but really it is at least 4. i carry it as a one strap backpack for short carries (just over one shoulder with the second strap hidden away) and as a sling for longer carries, when i want to be able to sling it forward, put out my camera and then put it back. the only complaint i have is the way the zippers meet on the main compartment. they go up to under the buckle, but not all the way. i would rather see the zipper go all the way around. the buckle covers the "gap", but i dont see it as that weather resistant in extreme weather. it does come with a rain pouch (which actually is in the way when not in use), but i would rather see a fully water proof construction and ditch the pouch. Kata's tripod strap system is not compatible with the 3-N-1, but i have been told they are working on it.

Bought this pack for day tripping and not having to carry the Tamrac Pro 12.Nice looking compact bag. It is well made and the zipper/clip design is a good feature (you cannot unzip completely without undoing clips). It is very comfortale to carry with one or both straps. It also has a hand hold on top if you would like to carry it that way. It has a very small main compartment. It took me a good bit of time to configure the dividers to fit my Sony A900 w/vertical grip and the 2.8 28-70mm zeiss along with sony HVL58 flash unit. After getting it all in, there isn't any room left. To carry a second lens I will have to stow it, or the flash in the top compartment. Even with my old A100 there is no way I could carry 3-4 lenses, as stated in the description. I gave serious thought to returning this for the largest 3n1 until I read the specs. the main compartment in it is only a bit longer and wider with the depth being the same. And with this large camera and grip more depth is what I need. The other drawback to me are the compartment flaps, they are durable but very stiff, you cannot unzip the pack and lay the flap back and have it stay back. It flips right back to the closed position. Which means you have to hold the flap back wth one hand and "dig" with the other. With a smaller camera I'm thinking this would be a great bag. But with a pro sized DSLR... shop further.

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

I got this bag because I am going to be doing a lot of hiking on a trip to Colorado very soon. My FAVORITE part about the Kata 3-in-1 bags is that they can be a sling (which I prefer for short periods of time) or almost instantly become a backpack (which I love for extra support when you're going to be wearing your gear for long amounts of time). I chose the medium-sized bag. It comfortably fits an 18-135mm lens, a 50mm lens, an extra flash, my digital SLR body, two cards, and has room for some more things. Again, this bag is comfortable, VERY practical, my gear is super easy to access in it, and I can trust that everything will be safe. It's an awesome buy for such a great price! I will definitely bring this bag everywhere I go.

It's the perfect bag for my needs. I carry a gripped D7000 with a 17-70 f2.8-4 attached, a 70-210 f4 and an sb600 flash. They all fit in the bottom compartment. The 70-210 f4 also fits attached, but it's a little tight. Over all I couldn't be happier. It's pretty small for all it fits!

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

Construction of the 3N1-20 Kata is very good - sturdy zippers, protective padding supported by an integral rib design. I was looking for just this sort of enhanced protection and durability, and I am relatively pleased. The sling back design is versatile, with multiple options for carry. For outdoor use, the sling configuration is the best, enabling both a comfortable carry as well as fast access. I use a Nikon D7000 with 18-105 lens, a Nikon SB-700 flash, plus multiple filters. I also carry the camera's battery charger. I have several older Nikon AF lenses, but I'll have to choose only one or two to carry at a time due to space constraints. I could have gotten the 3N1-30, but the size is just a bit larger than I desired. One could also make the argument that having a larger bag encourages thoughtless packing of virtually everything. As it is, I have to do just a little planning.

I have read criticisms elsewhere regarding the zippers not closing fully. They are designed that way when the "fast opening tab" is sticking out between them. You can grab the tab and pull, making both zippers open in opposite directions fairly quickly. For complete closure, the instructions say to stow the tabs in the bag. The zippers will close completely then. My first-blush test of this feature is that it works pretty well.

The position of the camera body with lens is set up for a right-shoulder sling. You would have to move around the padded internal partitions if you prefer a left-shoulder sling. Accessing the camera is quick, and the sling configuration makes the access comfortable and at the same time secure from slips. Other compartments are accessed less easily. The zippered flaps hold fairly tight to the bag, and you have to pry them up a bit to access the compartments intended for additional lenses. On the one hand, this makes access to such areas a little slow. On the other hand, it prevents lenses or other accessories from easily falling out of the bag.

The other small compartments on the bag are fine for storage, but they don't have much room. I store the SB-700 flash in the top compartment, simply because it fits there and nowhere else.

In the final analysis, I like the bag and got pretty much what was expected. I would add a single larger pouch for manuals and would extend the zippers another two inches to permit easier access to storage. These modifications would earn 5 stars instead of 4. I would recommend this bag to others, especially those who would use it walking or hiking off of the beaten path. The durability, equipment protection, and reasonably fast access to the camera all trump the minor concerns I mentioned.

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

This is my first camera bag, It has enough room for what I need to put in it (7D, 50mm, 17-40mm, and various other little things) but as I am looking to expand on my gear there won't be enough room for long.

The build quality seems excellent, zippers are strong, material is robust and I am not worried about it ripping or tearing with more use.

It is slightly difficult to organize the dividers on the inside because there are limited locations where the velcro can actually be attached. This is just a minor issue but could easily be corrected if the entire interior of the bag was the soft sided velcro material.

It is really easy to carry in your hand or on you back with many easy accessible carrying options.

I would buy this bag again if i was again buying a first camera bag.

In the main compartment I put my 60D with a 24L prime and a 16-35L. Also have room for Z-finder, Battery charger, and Lens hoods (off lens). The side pockets hold batteries, lens caps, I keep extra dividers that are not in use in them as well. Top compartment holds a Go Pro with accessories some cables, card reader, screw driver, and sunglasses. Sling is comfortable but I prefer the backpack mode.

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

I purchased a bag from Kata that I returned, only because it was a torso pack, but was very well built. So, I decided to give Kata another try with their 3 in 1 Sling Backpack. I made the right choice. My favorite thing, is the pocket that grants access to my camera, also gives me access to my two other lenses. In other camera bags I've seen, you need to unzip the whole front to get access. These pouches, have little flaps that you can pull, and viola, lenses...and the "pockets" are held in place by Velcro, but just enough to keep them secure, without having to fight getting the compartment back into place. It's adjustable to wear over either shoulder, or both...and allows you to configure the bag for camera access, depending on which shoulder you choose to wear it on. It holds my D90 w/ grip with lens on, my 50mm and 85 mm 1.8 lenses as well as battery charger and chord, my 4 lens filter case, my BR camera strap, rocket air-blower...and there's still room...It's comfortable, very well constructed, and not bulky in my opinion. It is even designed to attach to a trolley if need be, and though I didn't buy it, but probably will, there is a tripod holder that easily attaches to the bag...

I also purchased a kit (also made by Kata) that you can use to make more compartments. I am actually returning the kit, because I didn't need it after all...this bag has more room than I thought, and the access to everything as I wanted...

I LOVE this bag. It fits all my gear, is flexible with different arrangements, and just feels good on my back. It is not as big and clumsy as other bags I've used, which seemed to crush my back. It fits my Canon Mark II with 24-70mm lens, external flash, Zoom H4n recorder, wireless lav mic, mic cable, zoom lens, headphones, extra batteries, etc. Great video kit bag, especially with the tripod addition for the back. Love the flexible straps and waist support. Nice and compact for city travel.

I have not yet had a chance to use this pack in the field but have loaded it with gear and carried it around the house to get used to how it feels. It holds everything I wanted it to and is very slim on the body. Lots of room for arm movement. I absolutely love the criss cross over the chest option. This allows you to carry the weight on both shoulders but easily unclip one of the staps for the sling option. My husband has a sling bag and I was envious of the ease of use, however, carrying the weight on only one shoulder was not an option for me. I look forward to many years of use of this great pack.

Comments about Kata 3 in 1 Sling Backpack, Medium:

After gearing up with the new Canon T2i, knowing I would probably only buy one or two more lenses in the next couple of years - I set out to find the perfect bag. Something new, something useful, something left handed.

Us left-handers are left out most of the time. Not with this bag. Arrived right on time. My only complaint is that it was set up for a right-hand applicaiton and it didn't come with very good documentation on how to set it up. So, in my haste to get my stuff in the bag, I ripped out the dividers and then struggled to figure out how to set it up on the other side.

After some work, I've got it in the best I know how....bottom line - it works exactly how I need it to for my camera with lens and easy access to my extra lens.

Using the sling part of the bag is wonderful when walking. I don't think I would enjoy it if it was right handed only. I'm a big guy (6'4") and I have the straps extened all the way. It fits pretty good. The padding on the strap takes some getting used to. Access to the camera is quick. I've only taken it out a couple of times, but so far, it's been the perfect camera bag.

It's light enough to carry by the top handle and sits upright. Took it to a basketball game and it sat right in front of me without getting in the way.

So far - thrilled with my purchase!

I love this bag it's super durable but it's kind of awkward opening it up having to unsnap the snaps each time. I like the option to use as a backpack or sling bag. Some of the zippers on the corners get stuck and you have to help them along but overall I will use this bag a lot.

First off I am relatively new too photography own a Minolta Maxxim and the new Canon T3i and they both fit snug in there with two 75-300 tele lenses. The top compartment can hold all the filters you need and has a very secure yet comfortable feel too it. The sling conversion is nice though I don't use it much. All in all this is one amazing backpack and for the price you can't go wrong, it is super comfortable while providing protection to all your gear!
