Product Highlights
  • Converts 580EX II to Ring Flash
  • Used on EOS 1D, 1Ds & 1V Cameras

The ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter is a unique flash adapter that will convert your hot shoe flash unit into a ring light flash. It simply slips over the front of the flash unit, and will fit any lens with a front diameter of no more than 4". It will replicate the lighting effect produced by traditional, expensive, and heavy powered studio ring flash units.

The light distribution is accomplished through a sophisticated system of internal prisms, reflectors and light-shapers designed to distribute and project the light evenly around the lens. Because the Ring Flash Adapter relies on the hot-shoe flash to generate its light, it contains no electronics, no flash tubes and requires no cumbersome cables. And in addition, TTL operation works exactly the same as with the flash itself.

The Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter is ideally suited for fashion, wedding, portrait, journalist and macro photography as either a main or fill-in light.

The Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter results in minimal light loss from the flash's standard output. It does not change a flash's color temperature.
Requires no modifications to your flash unit to mount.

Comments about ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter for Canon 580EX II to EOS1D/1DS/1V:

When it works, it's pretty good, but I've had 2 break on me because they're just poorly built. I didn't use either one more than a 2-3 times either.

The first one, the plastic light ring inside the case broke. They did replace the broken unit, but the 2nd one was worse. It was a different problem, but even more frustrating. It's just a poor construction. For this kind of money, I expected better quality.

Comments about ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter for Canon 580EX II to EOS1D/1DS/1V:

I intended to use this for macro photography and haven't had an opportunity to really test it in depth. However, so far I find it a useful addition and look forward to using it in combination with my Canon 180mm macro.

I am pleased with the uniformity of the light coming out of the flash. The housing is plastic and does move around a bit but it seemed sturdy enough with the proper amount of care when mounting/unmounting it from the flash head.

Comments about ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter for Canon 580EX II to EOS1D/1DS/1V:

wanted a simple ring flash to carry with me. this one does ok, not a lot of power and fast fall off. Works fine for a close up portrait or macro photography, not for anything bigger. I feel that the cost is a bit high considering what it is.

Comments about ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter for Canon 580EX II to EOS1D/1DS/1V:

I've used ringlights for more than 25-years. I had one adapted to my Speedotron packs and my Norman 400B for years, for studio and location work. For the past few years, I've used the Alien Bees unit, which I like, though it's a bit flimsy in build. I had an editorial come up and decided to use on camera flash, and then decided a ringlight would be great. I saw a write up on this unit and thought "Great! Fits the bill".

Well, it has limitations. First of all, don't plan on using it at a distance of more than about 10-feet. The output dies at about that distance. Second, it requires A LOT of exposure compensation (about a stop over), to properly expose -- at least on a Canon 1D3 and 1Ds3. I'll keep it for my bag of tricks, but it may be used to shoot my kids, not a job.

Comments about ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter for Canon 580EX II to EOS1D/1DS/1V:

FINALLY! A flash that doesn't leave you with a "flash look". Perfect for close-ups, portraits, fill flash and more!! I use mine mostly with a macro lens and a Nissin speedlight. Note: you will need a speedlight to attach this to.
It does not fold up so make sure you have room in your bag. I place the piece that attaches to the flash in a lens pocket in my bag and the rest lays over the pockets with bubble wrap on it.

*if you HATE the way flash looks on close ups or don't want to carry a lighting set with you-- YOU NEED THIS!

Comments about ExpoImaging Ray Flash Ring Flash Adapter for Canon 580EX II to EOS1D/1DS/1V:

Kind of sits weird on the camera even though it's made specifically for it and the flash. It works out pretty well, but for [$], it should come with a defuser of some sort.
