Product Highlights
  • Supports 5.0 lbs (2.3kg)

A tripod to choose for arduous journeys where every scrap of weight and size must be judiciously considered, the Vortex High Country tripod is a five-segment unit made to accommodate spotting scopes or binoculars weighing up to 5 lbs (~2.3kg).

The High Country's ball head has a quick release mechanism which features the open channel design, instead of the more common fixed-position quick releases.  By having an open channel, it is able to have a built-in fore/aft adjustment between the quick release plate and the clamp, so that your binocular or telescope will be ideally balanced over the tripod's center-allowing you to carry a smaller rig while still getting stable observing.

The High Country is king of compactness and light weight, coming it at just 3.5 x 18.8" (8.9 x 47.8cm) WxL when collapsed and being only 2.1 lbs (~1kg) of load to bear.

Independently-adjustable, dual-angle leg segments allow low working heights or observing upon uneven terrain

Comments about Vortex High Country 5-Section Tripod w/ Quick Release Ball Head:

Spend the couple extra bucks and get a nice tripod. This guy was a huge disappointment. I would only trust it with a PNS camera AT BEST. I have never put any of my DSLR cameras on it even for a test drive. When you extend the legs they feel about as stable as dry spaghetti noodles. I wish I had that money back to buy a slightly more reputable and sturdy tripod. You have been warned.

Comments about Vortex High Country 5-Section Tripod w/ Quick Release Ball Head:

Very pleased with the many points of articulation (five sections and ball head) and the overall stability of the tripod. I find it to be very easy to use and quite stable, which is great to couteract my shaky hands.

The only thing I wish for on it would be better grip in the feet, as the back foot often slips in my light booth. Centre pole (for lack of better term) can unscrew, which makes it a little wobbly when extended, but can easily be tightened again.

Comments about Vortex High Country 5-Section Tripod w/ Quick Release Ball Head:

I am a new-to-DSLR photographer, and have spent a bit of money on lenses, so not much was left for a high-end tripod. After looking around a bit, I thought I would give the High Country a try. Overall, I think it is a decent little unit. When I received it, the quick release was quite stuck, so much so that I had to essentially pry it off. A little WD40 and patience seems to have rectified it, but it was quite annoying. Also, it needed just a bit of tightening up, as some of the sliding parts were a bit loose and wobbly. After some work, it generally seems stable and usable now. The ball head is pretty decent, and stays where it is placed, and the unit is reasonably light and adjustable as well. Craftsmanship overall is good, but it is not a work of art by any means. I don't know that I would put a heavy camera and lens combo on it, but for general usage, it is just fine.

I have little doubt that a more expensive tripod would be much better, but that said, for the money I am quite pleased with this, and don't plan on replacing it anytime soon.

Comments about Vortex High Country 5-Section Tripod w/ Quick Release Ball Head:

I use this for product photography at work and it's been great. The legs seem a little wobbly when fully extended...but for what I shoot, I don't need a huge, ruggedly-built tripod. I like it a lot and would definitely recommend it as an affordable lightweight bit of gear.
