The Rode NTG-3 Shotgun Microphone is a professional shotgun microphone that delivers a few unique qualities in order to meet the demands of today's broadcast audio engineers and boom operators. The microphone features radio-frequency (RF) interference properties that avoid annoying noise and interference caused by nearby RF sources such as radio antennas, WIFI networks, internet devices, power lines, etc. The microphone is also built to withstand the rigors of adverse weather conditions.
Of course special attention is paid to the accurate, directional pickup characteristics and its frequency response, sensitivity and low noise floor, which result in pristine audio quality. The NTG-3 shotgun microphone is an ideal solution for outdoor ENG and studio applications.

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
This mic comes with a beautiful metal case (inside is padded to protect the mic). Great range and pickup. I use it on a shotgun mount but I imagine it'd work just as well or even better with a boom pole.

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
After shooting our first interview with the mic, I couldn't be more pleased. It's more affordable than some other mics in its class, but performs just as well as well if not better than the others I've used. I'll likely be buying a second in the near future. The only thing I could ask for is the option for a battery when (rarely) using a device without phantom power.Very present, very clear, very clean, very durable.

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
I have yet to test the microphone in difference projects, but it is solid. And produces clear sound. It is a joy to watch. And it is rather cheap for a microphone this good.

I just used this mic to record the audio for a PSA-style video. It was used for both children and adults, male and female and the sound quality was great for all. It is also a very responsive mic.

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
Our students use this frequently. It has great long distance pickup and is more compact than the similar model we bought three years ago. Easy to store and anyone with medium size and strength can be our boom operator.

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
I am a writer, director, and producer of Independent films and have had the oportunity to work with many different shotgun mics on set. The Rode NTG-3 is the best in its price range because it's clean, clear, and rich with perfect dynamic range latitude for Boom Operators with varying degrees of experience. The NTG-3 is forgiving for less than perfect placement while catching full, natural sounding dialogue. When you factor in all the variables of what is needed to capture great audio on the set of an Independent film, you'd be hard pressed to find a better shotgun mic for the price than the Rode NTG-3.

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
I have a Sennheiser ME-66 which is childs play compared to the Rode NTG-3 . The NTG-3 minimizes HVAC and room noise and sound incredible. It is as good as a lav if not better. Very rich sound. I would highly recommend this mic.

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
Bought this product to record business meetings and could not be happier with the product. It is clear when there is no background noise, captures voices very well and with little noise. Only downside is it's only phantom powered, otherwise is a great mic for it's price range.

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
I used two NTG-3 shotgun microphones for the first time for recording the sound tracks for a full orchestra video. My equipment was set up in the first row of the balcony (about 60 feet from the orchestra). The sound quality was exceptional and covered the full audio spectrum well. I wish I knew how to include a short sound clip in this review. It had wonderful attenuation of audiance noise (coughs, etc.).

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
I purchased the NTG-3 primarily as a back-up mic should either of my Schoeps have issues on location with humidity. The NTG-3 is virtually impervious to humidity and adverse weather conditions. So when the going gets tough--weather wise--this is my insurance policy I will be able to complete the shoot. It's nearly identical to the Sennheiser 416, but with a more forgiving pattern. I would not say it is equal to the 416, but it is close enough in my book to do exactly what I need it to do. RODE also includes a great mic storage tube! Overall, a very solid mic at a really great price!

While not as crisp and clean as the amazing 416, the more expensive alternative, you really get a bang for your buck with NTG.

Comments about Rode NTG-3 Precision RF-Biased Shotgun Microphone:
I was looking for a shotgun mic for a video shoot with my Canon 5DMII for a Choral performance inside a large traditional church with a balcony in the rear and altar/stage in the front and 1,000 fixed seat capacity. The choir consisted of 200 singers along with a small orchestra situated on the stage. I wanted a mic that would be sensitive to picking up the performance from where I was perched on the first row balcony. The NTG-3 was mounted on top of the Canon 5D with a shock mount and connected to an Azden FM-42 mixer with phantom power turned on. The mixer was connected directly into the 5D onboard mic input. The audio results were outstanding way beyond what I was expecting. Glad not to have to use a separate recorder and synching in post.
