Tiffen 82mm Circular Polarizer Filters - Light rays which are reflected become polarized. Polarizing filters are used to select which light rays enter your camera lens. They can remove unwanted reflections from non-metallic surfaces such as water or glass and also saturate colors providing better contrast. The effect can be seen through the viewfinder and changed by rotating the filter. The filter factor varies according to how the filter is rotated and its orientation to the sun.
If you're out walking on a lovely day - in the mountains or at the beach - and you want to get a fabulous shot of a cloud-filled sky or make the water seem more saturated, then a polarizer is the way to go. This filter is the best way to make the clouds stand out, increase or decrease the saturation of the ocean or increase or decrease the reflection off the water. You can also use this filter when shooting into glass or windows since it will, again, either increase or decrease reflections.
If you're shooting black and white and want to simulate a threatening storm, try throwing on a #25 Red filter. The vista will take on the appearance of an imminent, ominous storm.
Along with a UV or Skylight Filter, a polarizing filter should be a part of everyone's gear bag. It can turn a run-of-the-mill image into a stunning, creative photo by increasing color saturation.
Note! Circular polarizers are specifically designed for use with auto-focus SLR cameras (They will also work on manual systems without problems)

Good polarizer-a bit thick
Gets the job done, remove reflections and gives blue skies.
The mount is a bit thick and creates vignetting.
might wanna invest a bit more

Seems to fail on wider lenses by giving inconsistent polarization across sky. I know this is an issue with wide angles, but particular filter was less than satisfying in comparison to the others I have.

Replaced a broken ultra-thin and performed equally well. Haven't noticed any vignetting using it on a 16-35mm/7D. As a side benefit I can use the original lens cap.

Comments about Tiffen 82mm Circular Polarizing Filter:
I use this on my Sigma 12-24- It works great, the only issues occur at 12-14 mm, like other folks have said, but this is a lens issue, not a filter issue. Sigma should have had a drop-in filter built into the lens....
I also like how it protects the bulging front element- if you drop it,it's cheaper to replace a filter than fix or replace the lens.

Looks great if you hold it on. The threads are not deep enough. Other filters fit fine so I switched to a Hoya and it worked fine.

I have two sizes of the same filter, works great. I've never compared them side by side with the more expensive polarizers so I can't speak much to that. This is a great tool to have in your bag and is really great to be able to adjust a shot on site.

I use the filter to help eliminate glare while doing copy work. Its other characteristics are just icing on the cake.
Probably should have bought a removal tool still trying to find a work around for that. Maybe a large rubber band.
