Formatt Graduated Neutral Density HD Filters enable the shooter to adjust exposure without affecting color balance. Exposure can be increased by 1, 2, 3 or 4 stops to suit individual situations.
Often it is necessary or desirable to balance the light intensity in one part of a scene with another. This is especially true in situations where you don't have total light control, as in bright contrasty landscapes. Exposing for the foreground will produce a washed-out, over-exposed sky while exposing for the sky will leave the foreground dark and under-exposed. This filter enables cloud detail to be kept correctly exposed in the picture.
Soft/hard indicates the degree of transition.

Comments about Formatt 77mm Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Filter:
Does what is says, I much prefer to mount a filter when taking pictures in the bush then fiddling around on Photoshop once I reach my home - since I use it on my Sigma 10-20mm I can't use the poly ND filters.

Comments about Formatt 77mm Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Filter:
I'm not necessarily giving it two starts because it came scratched - there was a noticeable scratch on it when it arrived out of the box, but its two stars because it felt really cheap.I could barely clean the glass with a fiber cloth, it felt very plastic-y.Then, the spinning mechanism really felt cheap. When the tiffen came in, I felt the quality difference right away in the spin and the glass. The price difference of <[$]really pushed me to get it, and would have opted for the Tiffen (as I have many filters from them) that are great. Perhaps if a Hoya version was available, I'd go with them. My polarizer from Hoya spins much more smoothly, but I suppose it isn't a horrible issue since 360° over 77mm isn't too devastating. Opt for more household brand, or try this to save the money and see if you get a better product than I did.

Comments about Formatt 77mm Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Filter:
Good filter for wide-angle lens. Would not recommend for anything past 50mm. The filter's packaging leaves much to be desired, and the filter itself was dirty upon arrival. Can be tricky to stack onto a UV filter.

Comments about Formatt 77mm Graduated Neutral Density (ND) 0.6 Filter:
I love this thing. It makes skies come out perfectly. A plus, or a minus depending on weather or not you have a hood, but this filter has a little stick off the side to rotate it. It can get in the way of your hood.
Its also deep enough to fit my lenscap.

Darkens the sky without looking unnatural. If you shoot landscapes or cityscapes this is a very useful filter.
