Product Highlights
  • Foldable Design
  • S-Logic Natural Surround Sound
  • MU Metal Shielding
  • Speed-Switch Earpads
  • Two Detachable Cables
  • Hard Storage Case Included

The PRO 550 headphones from Ultrasone provide professional-quality audio in a lightweight and comfortable design. The headphones can fold down into the included hard case, which also has room for storing accessories. The headphones are fully adjustable, and have comfortable around-ear speed-switch earpads. A spare pair of earpads are included.

The headphones use large 50mm Mylar drivers to provide smooth, natural sound with a wide frequency response that offers deep bass and crisp treble, ideal for tracking bassists and drummers. The headphones use Ultrasone's proprietary S-Logic Natural Surround Sound technology to provide a realistic soundscape, creating the impression that you're listening to high-quality speakers that are actually several feet away. This technology also produces the same perceived volume levels at a lower dB rating, allowing you to set the volume on your player a bit lower, potentially reducing the risk of hearing damage.

Other great features of the PRO 550 include MU metal shielding, which reduces radiation emission by up to 98% compared to other similar headphones on the market. This is an excellent feature for users who spend a great deal of time using headphones. The headphones include two single-sided detachable cables; one straight and one coiled. Each cord has a standard 1/4" stereo plug, and a 3.5mm mini adapter is included.

Portable Design
The headphones fold down easily into the included hard case for convenient storage and travel.
Pro-Quality Sound
Large 50mm Mylar drivers, combined with Ultrasone's S-Logic Surround Sound Technology puts you right into the center of the music, ideal for tracking bassists and drummers. Instead of piping sound directly into your head, the S-Logic technology creates a rich and detailed soundscape that seems more like you're listening to live music than headphones.
Safer Listening
In addition to providing a realistic sonic experience, the S-Logic technology provides the same loudness sensation as other headphones, with an up to 40% lower dB output. This lets you set the volume lower on your music player, and potentially reduce the risk of hearing damage.
Ultra Low Emissions
The PRO 550 headphones have ULE technology with an MU metal bufferboard to significantly reduce the amount of electromagnetic emissions produced by the headphones; up to 98% less than standard headphones. This is excellent for professional users who spend the majority of their day wearing headphones.
Comfortable Design
The fully-adjustable headband and around-ear speed-switch earpads provide long-lasting comfort. A spare pair of earpads are included.
Detachable Cables
Two single-sided detachable cables are provided; one straight and one coiled. Each cable has a 1/4" stereo plug, and a 1/4" to mini adapter is included.

I am very pleased with these headphones! I needed something that could fold flat, and be placed into my bag, for when I go into work to edit, but also something with a detachable cable, so that I may replace it more easily, should the included cables ever break. These headphones fit the bill! Ultrasone states that these are for Bass Guitarists and Drummers, and with the apparent emphasis on the EXTREME low end, I can assure you that they are telling the truth! As for reference headphones, for video editing (as in my case), it might appear that the "mids" are a bit lacking. When I switch between my AKG K102s, however, I cannot hear the difference, except that the PRO550s have more bass, but they both have the same "mids." I perceive that the PRO550s are lacking in Mids, when in fact they simply have more bass in comparison.

Also, in terms of sound, Ultrasone claims to use a certain proprietary "technology," where they offset the drivers in the headphones, so that the listening experience is more natural, in the way that your ears gather sound. In my opinion, I don't know if that makes these sound more "speaker like," but it does NOT sound like sound is being crammed down your ear canal. This is a GOOD THING! It is much more comfortable on my eardrums to listen to these for an extended period of time, as opposed to my other headphones.

As another note, the PRO550s in the picture on B&H's site, are not the ones in received. Mine were black and white (just as you would see on Ultrasone's website). Additionally, the coiled cable may be 10 ft when fully extended, but the other straight cable is only 3 ft, and it terminates into a 1/8 inch mini, instead of 1/4" on the 10' coiled. This makes sense however, since 1/8" is typically found in consumer gear (like your iPod), so why would you need a 10' cable to go from you headphones to your iPod (which you'll probably be holding in your hand anyway). Unless you're a GIANT, a 3' cable should be fine. On the other hand the 10' coiled cable, with 1/4" jack, is great for professional needs, where a mixer may be far away. ...The point I'm trying to make is, although these are different cable than advertised on B&H, they are exactly what I wanted, and no more than anybody should need.

These look and feel great and seem to be the quality you'd expect from name-brand German 'phones. Wrong....the input jack to the headphone was defective and cut in and out and when it did connect to both ears, the sound was middy and seemed out of phase with little or no bass. I don't see how these got 5 stars!

Comments about Ultrasone PRO 550 Closed-Back Professional Headphones:

Ultrasound clarity is amazing and this lower price model is no exception. They are exceptionally clear and rich over the entire frequency range. Possibly the most life like accoustic and voice reproduction available is Ultrasone. Very accurate. If a range is boosted too much on a recording that range will seem excessive but I believe that is due to the clarity of these phones. A tweak with the receiver/equalizer will addresss that. The perceived breadth of soundstage is imprssive. Ultrasone's S-logic is about as close to 3D as you will get with cans. Even my musican and sound engineer friends are impressed with these. They are rugged and extremely comfortable even at over 10 oz. Nothing I auditioned [*] can compare on any point except portability. These are the only cans I have owned that bring out the quality of MP3s on my phone. If an MP3 is well balanced when engineered these cans will amaze you so I use them as portables every day. I would definitly recommend these phones. A great buy for the price.

Comments about Ultrasone PRO 550 Closed-Back Professional Headphones:

I recently purchased Ultrasone Pro550 headphones and they are fantastic! The clarity and depth of sound are above anything else i've listened to in a reasonably priced headphone. Given the 50mm driver the low end is amazing as well. Fat and round with no mud, but still flat response as opposed to DJ headphones with boosted Eq's, from my experience. Listening at different levels still gives you the same perception of sound, clarity and low end roundness. Completely enclosed ear pad rejects outside noise very well, and very comfortable. The additional ear pads given is a huge plus as i now avoid worrying about having to purchase them in the future as its usually the first item you have to replace from wear and tear. Nice touch! Purchase well worth it; Ultrasone has definitely won over another happy mixing engineer! Thank you B&H and ULTRASONE!Paolo Audio Engineer

Amazing sound quality for the price. Sturdy. Better quality all around than Beats or others in the same category. I have the Pro 750's. The 550's were a present for my girlfriend who wanted Beats. Guess who doesn't want beats anymore. :-)

Great for personal use: iPod, kindle, etc

Also great for studio mixing an djing. Recommend for anyone.

These headphones sound terrific. I'll be taking these on every plane ride I take. Keep in mind, they are much larger than the Beats. They block out considerable outside noise, so I won't be using them at home (I wouldn't be able to hear my son who is 1 yr old). They are also VERY comfortable to wear. I've worn them for 3-4 hours and had no discomfort.

Comments about Ultrasone PRO 550 Closed-Back Professional Headphones:

The Ultrasone Pro 550s is a great high-mid range headphone that delivers an extremely high quality sound. The sound is really clear and delivers a perfect balance of bass and treble to allow the user to listen for extended periods of time without strain. The headset is a little bulky, as these are over the ear headphones, covering up the entire ear. While I use the pro 550s for djing, I wouldn't exactly recommend it for that. The cups do swivel, but not enough to adjust to having on your ear and the other on your neck. Also they are not completely noise-cancelling, which can be a bit of a downside for some, however I actually perfer it to noise cancelling phones because sometimes for me it is hard to hear the monitors play, even if I have only one noise cancelling cup on just one of my ears. Still a solid headset, plus it comes with a really sweet durable case, (which is a bit bulky) and a 3.5mm cable and extra cushions.

Comments about Ultrasone PRO 550 Closed-Back Professional Headphones:

I am an Audio Engineering student who needed a headphone upgrade so I decided to go with these. These headphones are very comfortable and give what seems to be a pretty honest sound on lows, mids and highs. They have a great soundstage somehow, and sometimes the music sounds like it is in the room with you because of this. THe only thing I dislike about them is that they give me ear fatigue after about an hour of wearing them, probably because everything is so audible.

Bought these along with a Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium HD. They are really awesome, much nicer than my Logitech G35 Gaming Headset. They are light, very comfortable, and the perfect fit. Great soundstage as well. Only complaint is that there was no 1/4" to 3.5mm adaptor included. Also it would have been nice if they offered them for a little less without the carrying case (which is not needed by some people). The 3ft 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable is perfect for using the headphones with your phone or ipod in your pocket. Overall highly recommended.

They thought of everything including a nice carrying case, an extra set of ear pads and an extra coil cord for added flexibility. When I fired them up I was amazed at not only the crystal clear surround sound, but the comfort factor to boot! These are highly underrated headphones. Unbelievable sound and quality at an unbelievable price!

Comments about Ultrasone PRO 550 Closed-Back Professional Headphones:

I compared these side by side with the HFI-580, which I also own. The PRO550 win easily, in my opinion, for a relatively modest increase in price. The base is tighter and more delicate: where the HFI580 delivers a profound and continuous "BOOM" the PRO550 make apparent the gradation in sound, and play the base it is meant to be - as a support for the melody. I continue to be impressed with their sound, both as a step-up from the HFI580, and also as a closed headphone alternative to the Grado SR225 (whose sound I still prefer in this group, but cannot always listen to, since the SR225 are open back).
The PRO550 are also comfortable to wear; I have used them for several hours straight at work, and almost forgot about them being on.
The choice of two cables is nice, and the extra pair of earpads is a nice touch - although I expect it's going to be a while before I need to replace the current ones.
Overall, an enjoyable pair of closed headphones.

Comments about Ultrasone PRO 550 Closed-Back Professional Headphones:

I extensively searched for quality headphones to purchase, with [$] being my limit. I love listening to "big" music--sweeping soundtracks and soaring vocals, and these headphones were just what I was looking for. When I first put them on, they were everything I had expected. I was very impressed. The soundstage is immense, with an open, live sound. Music that is well-recorded and mastered shows off the real potential of these headphones. Sometimes after listening to one of these especially "big" song, I'm left sitting in my chair stunned. The sound is far from sounding cramped and tight; in fact, if you close your eyes you will feel like you're there in the orchestral pit or recording studio. The soundstaging and spacial imaging is such that you can pick out where all the instruments are. And the sound reproduction is superb--the instruments couldn't sound more real. When watching a movie, the incredible details make you feel like you're there. The bass is absolutely stunning; it is so intense, low, and powerful; it is hard to believe without hearing it that such an imposing, low sound intensity could come from a headphone. Drumsets are deep, tight, and punchy. Big soundtrack scores will sweep you away. My fear was that the bass would be too overwhelming, but it's not. It rumbles when it should, but it gives the highs and mids their place. I should also mention that these headphones (and any high quality headphones, I'm sure) do not sound nearly as good when I listen to them directly from my laptop instead of through my amp.Another thing these headphones can boast about it is that they are light and comfortable, to the point that you might forget that they're on after a while. But on the other hand, the color turned out to be--in my opinion--an ugly cream color instead of a nice white. So basically, if you like big sounds--a very low, deep bass, and a wide soundstage, you won't regret buying this product.

I use the product with a Xonar DG ( 64omh amp boost ) and the combination of those item is just great.

                            The bass is not overwhelming.
I can ear the mids pretty good.

If you want to get out of this gimmick world of so called * Gaming headset * this is a good buy.

These look and feel great and seem to be the quality you'd expect from name-brand German 'phones. Wrong....the input jack to the headphone was defective and cut in and out and when it did connect to both ears, the sound was middy and seemed out of phase with little or no bass. I don't see how these got 5 stars!

The technology that does not come rigth into your ears is great!!!, if you work as an audio Engineer like me with many hours with your headphones on.
I need it some reference headphones, because of my work, maybe this ones have a little bit to much bass enhance, but I found it to be quite good for the price. The only thing I didn`t like to much was that does not have a screw adaptor, so you must change the cables back and forth if you need 3,5 or 6,3 mm plug
Comparing to my Sony MDR 7506, the ultrasone pro 550 seems to have clearer sound, and less hearing starin and fatigue.
Finally I`m happy and glad about having this headphones, they are just what I need it.

Comments about Ultrasone PRO 550 Closed-Back Professional Headphones:
