Comments about Barber Tech SteddiePod Camera Stabilizer with SLIK Head:

I use this in my church events where the people would crowd around the speaker. Most of the time I have to move so I will have a clear path. I love the easy balance and the hight it can reach. When you want to turn the head while using it as a tripod it will sway in a given direction. I would give it five stars for mobility, but it makes everything heavier.

Comments about Barber Tech SteddiePod Camera Stabilizer with SLIK Head:

I have had a chance to use some varied steady cams on the market from thousand dollar steadicam systems to the steadicam smoothee. These products serve very well for the cliental. This product is great for me because I use smaller and lighter cameras such as the Sony Nexfs100 and a Canon 5D mark 2. Keep in mind that when you are looking into the market of steadicams, you have to assess your needs before trusting reviews saying that the sytems are AMAZING and EXTRAORDINARY! First you have to figure out what kind of camera you will be using. For me, the Sony NEXfs100 is harder to balance on this model, even with the offset balance plate because of the awkward shape. You will not have this problem with different models such as Glidecam HD4000 with or without the vest and arms. It is much easier to balance in order to receive the best possible results. That being said, this stabilizer is AMAZING, but it does have its limits. It will be limited to its weight (max 5 lbs.). I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of the compact fluid head attached, but I might still recommend a Manfrotto 701HDV or similar-sized heads. I believe that this is a perfect entry level camera stabilizer for smaller cameras and cheaper budgets. This stabilizer can produce the same, if not better results at a fraction of the cost of a full steadicam system that can cost upwards of $4,000 to $12,000. Obviously, these products will be able to hold more weight and accessories as well as being the industry standard. At some point in the future, I would like to see a vest enabled system for it though. That is another point worth mentioning. If you are looking for an eventually expandable system, this is not the stabilizer for you, but it performs extremely well going up and down stairs and even running at full speed if operated correctly. There is a 26 minute video on youtube that will help you make your final decision. I strongly urge the reader to watch this before purchasing. ("Steadypod" spelled like that on youtube) This product offers smooth raw results with out stabilization in post. With stabilization in post, it is very difficult to tell that you are not using an extremely expensive piece of gear. Hope this helps.

Comments about Barber Tech SteddiePod Camera Stabilizer with SLIK Head:

This was easy to use right out of the box.

It's key to find the right balance point.

You do need some muscle to do this for long periods of time. It's perfect for short shots with a high impact look.

The head on it is low quality but does work.

It would be great to see a vest that can help support the unit.

Overall this is good for the price point.

Comments about Barber Tech SteddiePod Camera Stabilizer with SLIK Head:

The bag is not strong enough and the second day I used it, it was almost broken at the bottom!! So think about getting another case or reinforce it with a plastic piece, for example.
On the other hand, the steddiepod does its job, a little bit expensive I think, but I´m happy with the results. It´s not a steadycam but, as I said, the results are pretty good. I´m using it with a Canon 7D (11-16mm & 24-70mm).
I strongly recommend buying a balance plate if your camera/lens are heavy to have a perfect "T" when you are balancing it.

Comments about Barber Tech SteddiePod Camera Stabilizer with SLIK Head:

I use this for a variety of situations...shooting panoramas in huge crowds, covering events where I have to reach above heads to get the shot, using the steady mode for getting some pretty good steady shots and using the tripod/mono pod mode for shooting pictures with long lenses as well as for shooting video where portability is a must. The portable aspects of it and the relative good results make it better than that of a good mono pod.The biggest flaw of the whole thing is the video head that comes with it. It is a piece of junk. B and H does not offer the unit with the swivel handle and not the head. You can only buy it without the swivel handle and without the head. The manufacturer may offer the unit as a special configuration.I recommended that persons buy the unit without the head and then buy a Manfrotto 701 HDV fluid head that has a tripod plate that you can adjust forward and back for balance. The Manfrotto head is a little bit bigger, but is so much better in quality than what comes with the unit. Overall, I think it will run the buyer about $50 more to get the whole setup with the manfrotto head.I use this device with Sony PMW ex3, Canon XHA1, Nikon D300 with a manfrotto panorama tripod head.If you need steady shots that are not long in length, then this device will work well for you. It will get heavy if you are using it for weddings or other events that do not allow for rest in between shots.Overall it really comes through when portability is a must.

Comments about Barber Tech SteddiePod Camera Stabilizer with SLIK Head:

I am reluctant to write this because this has been my secret weapon rig, unknown to much of my competition. I own a steadystick, jib, a $300 dolly, a slider, a glidecam with vest and arm, a tripod with fluid head, and even a fig rig. But this has got to be my favorite rig. I'll tell you, the flying shots are definitely comparable to the glidecam if not better and it only takes about 10 seconds to calibrate. You can even get a kind of pseudo jib and boom shots with this. It's a great monopod. Its fluid head isn't the greatest but it does OK if you learn how to workaround it's limitations. It can act like a shoulder mount by placing the rig against the front of your hips. All in all, my favorite stabilization rig. What's great is that it only take 10 to 20 seconds to switch between modes. It truly is the equivalent of a swiss army knife for videographers. Our company will probably going to get a second one soon. But most importantly, you must get the swivel handle if you want to be able to fly. Again, get the SWIVEL HANDLE! :)

Comments about Barber Tech SteddiePod Camera Stabilizer with SLIK Head:

I used this professionaly and at first I loved this thing because of all the different angles I could shoot - I could boom my cameras way up over crowds, ride it close to the ground, have a tripod, monopod, and stedicam - it seemed great. But then I started seeing the footage, and after six months of use, I'm not a fan anymore because though it can do a lot, it can't do any of it well. Actually, it's good at booming up high (although I'm always worried it will snap and my camera will fall on people). It's terrible as a steadicam because my legs constantly kick the feet of the steddiepod. Normally stedicams have a linear footprint, but this has a triangular footprint that sticks out into your path. It's also bad because it has no gimble and no way to adjust the balance of the camera. And it's terrible as a tripod because it wobbles and sways. So it's nice for fun projects, but not for professional projects.
