Remember when you used to sit in class, and everyone was supposed to be working on a written assignment? The room would be mostly quiet, with the scratching of pencils on paper... and then you'd hear the intercom switch on. You'd get a couple seconds of faint hiss, followed by a slightly distorted announcement about the lunch menu, then the system would click back off. THAT is exactly what this amp is designed to do - amplify things to a decent level at very low cost (therefore, the noticeable hiss).
I built a quirky little custom guitar speaker cabinet with a 3x3 array of 4.5" Jeep Cherokee factory speakers. I was going to use it as an extension cab, then found this little gem. I figured I'd turn my cab into a full-fledged combo. After rewiring the speakers to 2 4-ohm stereo sets, I plugged this amp in, hooked up my guitar (through the mic jack), and the rest is history.
The sound is of acceptable quality while at normal practice / listening volume. When I crank it up to about half way on the mic knob, the loud hiss starts (even with all knobs at 0 volume on my guitar and pedals). 10% THD is VERY high compared to most guitar amps, but it was a great deal, compared to buying an AC-to-DC converter and using a car amp [which was my original plan].
You simply won't find a little amp that does what this one does, for any cheaper.

All my audio systems to date had RCA connections. This item has bare wire speaker ports, the kind where you stick the wire into a spring loaded clamp. The manual explains nothing (and I did complain to them as well). Stripped ends of RCA cables have multiply thin copper wires, which are terribly hard to insert in the 1/16" holes. In the end, I may have damaged the item trying to get the wires inserted, getting a steady electric hum when I got any sound out of one speaker. I have had to claim a refund from the credit card company. Non-professionals be ware.

This amp is perfect for powering my studio monitors. It is compact, attractive and rugged. I don't have a single complaint. I bought it for a specific purpose and it delivers. It is flexable enough to use for many different applications though. If you want the big bang for your buck this is the power amp you ned to buy.

Used as a keyboard amplifier. Plenty of power to rock the studio while not hurting my speakers or distorting.

Bought this amp to add an extra pair of speakers to my new LCD TV...
Lots of extra power for my small bookshelf speakers. I love that it doesn't have an external power supply (wall wort) so it is really off when it's
turned off with the rocker switch on the front. Powers up right away with no surge pops or clicks. Simple sound controls clearly labeled and work well.
Nice quality metal construction... exactly what I wanted at a great price !
I'm going to buy another one for my garage workbench !

I bought this unit for my computer system, and I glad that I did. With a good pair of speakers it has enough power to fill a large room with sound when playing MP3's. I have yet to find any problems with it.

I ordered this amplifier to amplify my Sony LCD TV that had no headphone jack. Using the low level audio out RCA jacks the Pyle PTA2 works wonderfully to allow me to use just headphones. Being hearing impaired it certainly saved the day. It is always nice to buy from B&H Photo...[...].Haven't found any "cons" with the amplifier so far.

Used this on my receiver coming off of the pre-amp connection to add power to a set of Sennheiser RS-120 wireless headphones. Needed more volume and this little amp makes it happen.

Comments about Pyle Pro PTA2 Mini 2X40W Stereo Power Amplifier:
I bought 6 of these amps to individually power ceiling mounted background music speakers--Polk Audio RC6s in my case--in my office (to enable individual volume adjustment of each speaker). Music is provided by a Sirius satellite radio receiver. The system works well and after hours, I can crank up the speaker in my office if I am so inclined.
The amps each have RCA inputs and outputs so it was simple to daily chain them together to create an integrated system. Satellite receiver into one, output of that one to the input of the next and so on and so forth. Took minutes to hook up; after 6 months, I have no complaints.
