When printing just black copies, go to print setting to change to mono, this will save on color toner. When toner says empty, it is not really empty, you can reset printer and/or put black electrical tape over toner reader on cartride. You can Google for info. Don't understand why people complain about toner being expensive.

I have previously bought "generic" cartridges that are compatible with my printer model, because I didn't believe there would be a significant difference between them, aside from the price. However, after replacing all the cartridges (3 colors and 1 B&W) with generic ones, the printing quality went down so far that I was sure there was a major issue with the printer.
I called Brother's Help line and they said they couldn't talk with me unless I had Brother cartridges in the printer (they asked for the serial numbers), which I thought, at the time, was a scam to get me to buy them. So I went through all the printer maintenance protocols and troubleshooting procedures, and when this didn't help, I broke down and bought Brother cartridges.
The printer immediately went back to normal -- print quality is great, and I'm very relieved. I've learned my lesson! Sometimes it's worth paying extra for the name brand.

We have had excellent experience with Brother laser printers. Our earlier unit was a black only printer that has worked flawlessly in our home office. We now use a DCP 9045 DCN multi-function color laser. It takes a moment longer to warm up than the earlier unit, but adds copy, scan and color print. A very reliable machine to date, with about 2500 pages through it.
We always use genuine OEM supplies. Costs more initially, but the quality is always there.

I bought a toner refill kit a while back and it was a big mistake. It was cheap and that is for sure. Black toner constantly leaked all over the pages! I was worried that it messed up the printer but once I installed this new OEM cartridge, the pages are coming out beautiful again!
