The 62mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Haze HD (High Density) Filter from Hoya is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

This filter, with its hardened glass, has 4x the tensile strength of traditional filters of similar fabrication. This filter is also of great use in today's digital market where sensors are more sensitive to reflected light. Hoya incorporates special coatings that reduce these internal reflections and, thereby, promote a clearer, brighter and sharper image. The multi-coating used in this filter is made up of 8 layers on each side that promote 99.35% light transmission.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting.

Comments about Hoya 62mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

The filter is exactly as advertised. It is not my first BW filter so I was not surprised. BW has always been a high quality product. I accidentally ordered the wrong one first and had to return the it. The service/return dept was great. The second one came even faster than the first one. Being used on at 21mm Leica.

Comments about Hoya 62mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

This is my 3rd Hoya HD UV product- 2 of 62mm, a 55mm (4th Hoya HD if counting the circular polarizer). They may be pricey, but one should not be without a good-quality filter that they are putting on their lenses (otherwise, please don't use one as the IQ will be affected). There may be no benefit for the UV reduction to the digital sensor, but the multicoating that Hoya uses here is amazing. I mostly want it on the lens for protection and ease of cleaning (I dread wiping the lens element). I haven't been the most careful in cleaning the Hoya HD filters, sometimes with the shirt or fleece I'm wearing (because I'm confident of the filter's durability), but all of them remain 100% scratchless. Image contrast is great, no flaring or ghosting problems thanks to the coating, thin ring does not cause additional vignetting (even on Sony 1680Z which is known to require the thinnest filters at its widest setting), and the glass seems both unscratchable and unbreakable. Also, multicoated lenses are often very hard to clean, but this one is super easy; I think even easier than the noncoated Tiffen UV I quickly returned before investing in the Hoya. I keep these attached to my lenses attached all the time even for indoor and night photography (this puzzles friends who remove their uncoated UV filters); this filter simply does not negatively affect IQ.

Comments about Hoya 62mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I shoot documentary films, stills and TV commercials, often with my own equipment, and often in rugged environments. I like knowing my front elements are protected by extra strong glass that resists dirt and fingerprints and cleans easily when it does get dirty. I find the coating really works as advertized. I'm not sure there are any benefits to a UV filter as far as a digital sensor is concerned, but I don't see any harm to it either. I like Hoya filters in general, they seem well made and don't vignette on wider lenses.
