The 67mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Haze HD (High Density) Filter from Hoya is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

This filter, with its hardened glass, has 4x the tensile strength of traditional filters of similar fabrication. This filter is also of great use in today's digital market where sensors are more sensitive to reflected light. Hoya incorporates special coatings that reduce these internal reflections and, thereby, promote a clearer, brighter and sharper image. The multi-coating used in this filter is made up of 8 layers on each side that promote 99.35% light transmission.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting.

Multi-coated - 8 layers on each side; 99.35% light transmission
Waterproof, scratch and stain-resistant glass
Good choice for digital photography
If desired it can be left on the lens at all times for protection
Haze filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details
Filter promotes the acquisition of more light for your image
Increases sharpness

As claimed by Hoya, "anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass…. to minimize flare and ghosting" "provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details." Since all these claims are in fact desirable for photographers like me, I purchased this filter and investigated its function, with hope that I can get nicer pictures during sunny day by using an expensive Hoya filter. First, I carefully took two identical pictures in a scene by using a tripod: one without use of the UB filter and the other with this filter. Camera (Canon 70D) settings are identical for both. This allows for an objective comparison to readily reveal if this filter has any ability to reduce effects of UV light. Second, I put paired pictures in Photoshop for better comparison of parameters including color (bluish cast) and distant details. My analysis of more than 10 pairs of pictures have clearly indicated that there is NO visible difference in the above parameters between control (no filter) and use of the filter. Apparently, evidence so obtained does not allow me to keep it or recommend this product to other purchasers.

Comments about Hoya 67mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I use UV filters on my more expensive lenses as protetion for the front element, nothing more. I saw several negative reviews online complaining that these filters do not provide any benefit in haze. That is correct! They may be poorly named, being basically just clear glass. If you want added protection for an expensive lens, put a good quality UV filter (multicoated with high light transmission) on the front and leave it there, but do not expect any color correction.

Comments about Hoya 67mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

When I first took this filter out of the packaging I thought it was defective and they just sent me the ring. That's how immaculate the glass on this filter is. Screw it onto your lens, leave it on and forget it. It doubles as a protective shield for your lens too. The filter actually does produce noticeably sharper images outdoors where there is a lot of sunlight involved.

They are very clear, tough, great multicoating, doesn't induce flare or ghosting.

I have these on almost all my lenses that see outdoor use.

After an accidental drop of my camera of about 4", and subsequent explosion of glass from a competitors filter I decided to invest in a filter that actually added a level of protection for my lenses. The 1st Hoya HD I purchased impressed me enough that I have invested in 3 more.

Comments about Hoya 67mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I bought this filter along with a filter adapter FA-DC67A for my Canon SX40 camera. The Hoya filter went onto the adapter with no problem. I bought the filter to protect the lens. There are cheaper UV filters, but I thought the Hoya High Density filter would give a bit more protection. I've already had it hit once and no problems.

Comments about Hoya 67mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I bought this for my Nikon 85mm f/1.8G since I already own and like the 77mm HD "Clear" version and I thought I would try the "UV" one.
If you are picky, there is clearly a very slight yellowish tint (warm) to this glass in comparison with the "Clear" HD filter I bought (also Hoya, so it's not a brand issue). In actual photographs, I do not notice much of a difference although I only recently received it so I will be testing it more.

Again, for real-life photography, it probably won't matter, but if you hold up the two filters next to each other, you can see a very slight difference.

Just something to consider if you need 100% clear filters I would go with the other Hoya 67mm "Clear" instead of this "UV" filter.

Comments about Hoya 67mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

Very dependable and durable. I use it more to protect the front of my lens, than block ultraviolet light. Rather spend the low cost of replacing the filter, should it get damaged, than the high cost of replacing my lens.

Mounted filter on Canon 70-300L as a permanent fixture primarily for lens protection. Works as designed. Very Clear and seems well constructed. Threads allow additional filters to be added and lens cap to be attached.
