The 72mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Haze HD (High Density) Filter from Hoya is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

This filter, with its hardened glass, has 4x the tensile strength of traditional filters of similar fabrication. This filter is also of great use in today's digital market where sensors are more sensitive to reflected light. Hoya incorporates special coatings that reduce these internal reflections and, thereby, promote a clearer, brighter and sharper image. The multi-coating used in this filter is made up of 8 layers on each side that promote 99.35% light transmission.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

The buid quality is high comparing to others filters I have (marumi, B+W, Hoya, Kenko). I'm having it for a week so I cannot tell more. It's made in Japan and the packagind is HQ. I hope it worths its place: in front of my new Nikon 105 f2 DC.There is no image quality drop @ 36MP (Nikon d800) so I'm happy with it. When in sale it worths the money.

I'm very happy with the build quality of this filter; it does what it's supposed to do. The metal used looks and feels better than that used in, e.g., Tiffen filters. Low-profile design makes it easy to use other filters without taking this one off. Would recommend.

4/5 because the HD2 has stronger glass if you're in the market for ultimate protection. This model is optically clear, fits well and doesn't bind when threading.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I already had an inexpensive UV filter on my Sigma 18-55 mm lens. After receiving in the mail the Hoya UV Haze HD filter, I took a series of similar shots with each filter. I was surprised to observe greater clarity of detail and better contrast between sun-lit areas and shaded areas with the Hoya filter. I found that it also supports other filters (Hoya or not) on top of it just fine. I don't see a downside to this still relatively affordable UV filter.

I have only had this filter on my 50mm 1.2 for two weddings. I was drawn to this filter because it is scratch resistant. There is hardly any glare at all, it hardly seems as though there is a filter on my lens.

Great UV filter. Perfect for protecting the front element of my Canon 35mm 1.4L. Build quality is great and appears to be rugged and can take a good beating. Mounts with no problem and cap goes over with no problem as well. I think its a bit pricey for a piece of glass. I wish it came with a better carrying case than the standard plastic one. Haven't noticed it affecting my picture quality.

It matches my Nikon 18-200 mm VR II lens very well. My lens had a focusing problem with a cheap filter at the long focus range. This filter does not create such a problem.

I protect all my lens glass with UV filters as it is far more cost effective to replace a filter than the lens glass. While I have tried several brands, I have found that the Hoya filters are the best yet.

Comments about Hoya 72mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

There is much debate concerning the use of protector filters and their possible impact on image quality. Weigh that against possible damage to a lens which may cost 100x the price of the filter. For me the benefit of protection outweighs any suggested image quality issues, especially when using a high quality filter as the Hoya UV Haze HD. It is of excelent build quality. It is thin and the fine coatings make it virually dissapear. The HD coating is also very easy to keep clean.

I want to add that I pruchased this new Hoya HD filter to replace one that safrificed its self to protect my expensive lens that my son borrowed. It is well worth the investment.

When I first took this filter out of the packaging I thought it was defective and they just sent me the ring. That's how immaculate the glass on this filter is. Screw it onto your lens, leave it on and forget it. It doubles as a protective shield for your lens too. The filter actually does produce noticeably sharper images outdoors where there is a lot of sunlight involved.

Purchased to protect Nikon 18-200mm lens. Appears to be well constructed, mounted on the lens easily. Came in a rigid plastic case which can be used for protected storage when filter is not in use.

bought a 85mm 1.2 and needed a uv filter. Don't know if it any better than a $ dollar uv filter.

So far I have not seen any worsening in image quality and it is a great protection for my lens. Frame is thin with no issues at 18mm.

At first I was put off by the cost. But after having these on a 24-70 2.8 and a 70-200 2.8 for nearly two years, I'm sufficiently sold on the superiority that I just automatically order one with any new lens. Incredibly easy to clean. Very tough -- has taken direct hits on furniture and brush, repeatedly shoved into a camera bag forgetting to put on the lens cap, etc., without showing a mark. Coatings make it essentially disappear. Lets me walk around with the caps off of expensive lenses without worrying, which means I catch shots I'd otherwise miss. Well worth the investment.

Depending on the lens, Hoya is great. If I went for a high dollar lens, I would normally select B+W.
