The 77mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Haze HD (High Density) Filter from Hoya is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

This filter, with its hardened glass, has 4x the tensile strength of traditional filters of similar fabrication. This filter is also of great use in today's digital market where sensors are more sensitive to reflected light. Hoya incorporates special coatings that reduce these internal reflections and, thereby, promote a clearer, brighter and sharper image. The multi-coating used in this filter is made up of 8 layers on each side that promote 99.35% light transmission.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting.

While there is a lot of disagreement re: filters to protect lenses, I believe that spending a little more for a good filter is the way to go in order to have a little insurance for a expensive lens. This HD filter has not disappointed me.

I've read and heard all the reasons to keep and not to keep a UV filter on your lenses. I've gone for the "not to", but have finally read enough good reviews by both users and pros about this Hoya lens so I finally got one for each of my lenses. I like it and as the subject line says, go Hoya or don't use a filter.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I use UV filters on my more expensive lenses as protetion for the front element, nothing more. I saw several negative reviews online complaining that these filters do not provide any benefit in haze. That is correct! They may be poorly named, being basically just clear glass. If you want added protection for an expensive lens, put a good quality UV filter (multicoated with high light transmission) on the front and leave it there, but do not expect any color correction.

I mounted this filter on my Nikkor 28-300 lens. This filter is a nice density with great light penetration. Provided some great Bokeh shots at 300mm. This filter not only gives you the confidence your expensive lens is protected but also that it will not affect your compositions.

good filter. i don't really know if this is much different than the S-HMC . It said 8 layer but i'm not sure it's 8 on each side ( 16 total ) or they just mean 4 layer on each side. I'm confuse . The S-hmc have 12 layer

I had heard good things about HD filters and needed a good quality filter to protect my new Nikon 24-70 F2.8 lens. Luckily I have not had a chance to see if it is really scratch resistant, but I am pleased with the fact that it does not degrade the sharpness of my lens.

Comments about Hoya 77mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

Don't notice any degradation in quality or sharpness with filter on vs off. It's expensive, but nowhere near as expensive as replacing a front element. Very nice filter and easy to clean.
