The 82mm Ultraviolet UV(0) Haze HD (High Density) Filter from Hoya is a wise initial investment. It helps protect your valuable investment from dust, moisture and scratches, which can lead to costly repairs.

This filter, with its hardened glass, has 4x the tensile strength of traditional filters of similar fabrication. This filter is also of great use in today's digital market where sensors are more sensitive to reflected light. Hoya incorporates special coatings that reduce these internal reflections and, thereby, promote a clearer, brighter and sharper image. The multi-coating used in this filter is made up of 8 layers on each side that promote 99.35% light transmission.

Hoya is one of the largest manufacturers of glass in the filter industry. In collaboration with its parent company, Tokina Optical, Hoya continues to strive to produce some of the best glass on the market. Currently, they hold 40% of the world's market for optical glass.

The advantage of most Hoya filters is that Hoya puts, at least, one layer of anti-reflective coating on each side of their glass. It is not bare glass. Even if the glass is not multi-coated, this kind of production tends to minimize flare and ghosting.

Multi-coated - 8 layers on each side; 99.35% light transmission
Waterproof, scratch and stain-resistant glass
Good choice for digital photography
If desired it can be left on the lens at all times for protection
Haze filters provide additional benefits of correction for Ultraviolet(UV) light which can register on film and videotape as a bluish cast and can obscure distant details

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

Just got new Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L II USM and figured that a lens of this quality deserves superior protection and optics. This filter does not dissapoint. I keep this on at all times to protect my lens and "enhance" my images. It's sleek, low profile, easy to clean and does not degrade or distort my images.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

Used as extra protection on my new 82mm spotting scope. Slim size fits under sunshade without any interference of sunshades operation. So far have observed no degeneration of image threw spotting scope. Will spend much more time in future with it on, and off to see if I can detect any differences. Does appear to clean off easier then previous Hoya Multi-coated UV Haze filters that I purchased a year or more ago.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

Got this filter to protect my Canon 24-70 2.8L II after having the 77mm version on two of my other lenses. Image quality does not degrade when using this filter. The glass feels very hard, although im not willing to test it, I do believe that it will probably withstand quite a bit of abuse.

My only issue with it, is that the lens cap does not sit on quite as well as it did before the filter was fitted.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

I really just wanted to protect my lens from scratches and other damage and I'm really happy with this purchase. Some people say a good uv filter will make the image less hazy and more clear, I don't know about that but I do know some cheap uv filters degrade the image. Not this one. I couldn't see the difference when I put it on and that's just what I wanted. Protect the lense element without degrading quality. Hoya says that this particular element is 4x stronger than their standard which I like but I won't be testing that claim out. I'll just take their word for it.

Mounted to the Tamron 24-70 2.8, I did not notice, even when viewing at 100%, any difference in contrast, color etc, whether the UV was attached to the lens or not. B&W UV's are excellent fliters.

Comments about Hoya 82mm Ultraviolet UV Haze HD (High Density) Digital Filter:

The Hoya UV HD filter is an excellent addition to any camera kit. Put this puppy on your lenses and you're not only going to make life easier on yourself by keeping damaging particles, dust, and liquids away from the front element, you're also going to improve the color fidelity of your images as well. By blocking out all the haze, aka excessive UV light, the Hoya UV HD straightens out the rays and allows the real colors to hit your sensor and thus end up in your images. Not to sound like a PR guy from Hoya--I'm actually a grad student at SAIC--but this thing works. The glass is of excellent quality and it really is in everyone's best interest to protect their expensive equipment. Why not clean up your images in the process? Great item!
