i ordered this tripod for a friend who is trying to get started with a small business that involves taping some simple interviews. she didn't have a huge budget, so this tripod seemed to offer all the features she'd need: 2-stage legs, smooth pan & tilt, lightweight, leveling knob, and a sub [$] price tag.when it was delivered, all seemed to be fine until i tried leveling it. first, when the level bubble seemed to be right, it wasn't necessarily level (i know not to always trust it - what you see is most important). i made necessary adjustments for my shot, then panned. yikes! it got so far out of level (by simply panning - on a level surface, mind you) that it was as if i was getting ready to shoot an MTV-style interview with extreme canted angles. nothing looks out of whack on it, but somehow the head is off-kilter and means that anytime i pan, i have to readjust the leveling knob to make sure things are right. not good.i'm assuming that this is not standard for these tripods, so i'll be trying to exchange it or get it fixed (through the warranty, hopefully!).

I am a film student and received this tripod as a gift. I was super excited and had hand selected this specific brand. The FIRST TIME I received the tripod I found two problems1. The release lever that ejects the loading slate was stuck. It was stuck to the point that I called B&H asking if it was going to "break" if I "yanked it". It took a pair of pliers and my father's strength to actual unstick this lever, and there after it was still a difficult process.2. There are two turning locks on the camera that lock the up and downward pan motions. The lock on the left side of the head, opposite the guiding lever, snapped. By snapped, I mean the actual bolt broke in half - half of it in my tripod, half of it in my hand. I didn't even exert force on this lock, I was merely adjusting it.[...]The SECOND time I received this tripod.I VERY carefully opened up the box my tripod came in. I was removing the plastic wrap around the tripod and what falls to the floor?THE VERY SAME SCREW THAT HAD BROKEN THE FIRST TIME.It was not the same tripod, but the same exact spot was broken. This tripod is made of cheap materials and is not meant to last. This does NOT reflect B&H, but the manufacturer that creates this product. I have purchased from B&H in the past and will continue in the future, but to all amateur filmmakers out there looking for their first tripod DO NOT BUY THIS BRAND.Again. DO NOT BUY THIS TRIPOD

The Bescor Th-770 Tripod is a good beginner Fluid Head Tripod for $[$](as of 6/9/14).The tripod is a robust and lightweight design with flaps to release the legs. It offers a good Fluid Head and Lower legs section of the tripod. However there are some cons the spreader is cheap and the latches to release the legs are plastic.

Comments about Bescor TH-770 High Performance Tripod System:

Absolutely solid tripod. Honestly for $, I wasn't expecting much, but have even please toy surprised. Metal plate is nice, handle is adjustable. It's not the most fluid head in the world or anything (jumps/sputters a fair amount unless you're careful) by it's highly affordable, the head can be replaced, and dead easy to operate, even one-handed. Perfect for fast shooters who hate wasting time.

Comments about Bescor TH-770 High Performance Tripod System:

I usually would use this tripod for film, its really compact and maneuverable to a point. Some of the parts aren't the best quality. I bought this tripod on my own its a mid-range (borderline professional) well priced tripod thats easy to operate. Like I said before that some of the parts aren't the best quality, the pan and tilt knobs are small and they seem like they'd easily be broken so just be carefull with them. The middle stabilizer that goes in between the tripod legs is made of cheap material and plastic and also seems like it would easily broken. If it would've been made of thicker or heavier material and held to gether by more than just a small screw I might be able to trust putting a weight on it but not the way its made now. Overall its a great tripod to use if your little bit more experienced in the film or photography field.

I had this tripod for a year and I'm already planning to get rid of it. I'm doing a lot of video work and the tripod head is not fluid at all. I have great difficulty trying to to smooth tilts and pan. The only solution I found was to put a Manfrotto 501HDV head on to of the actual head so it will give me more smoothness.

I use the product for a Canon photographic camera, but to record videos. In the major fashion runways of my country ... For the type of camera you use, the product is good. The system has legs that I like. Things not so good that the head adjusters fit or much or little is not as accurate as a tripod much more expensive ...

I bought a Bescor tripod back in 2009 and I recently needed a 2nd tripod to mount a slider to. My 2009 Bescor model is much better quality. This new one is made of cheaper plastic instead of aluminum, and it just screams "made in china".

That said, it's still a study tripod that does the job, and it's still super inexpensive.

Comments about Bescor TH-770 High Performance Tripod System:

I purchased this tripod 8 months ago for indie studio work and the occasional location shoot. At first glance it seemed like a decent little tripod for DSLRs (D7000), though the fit and finish was a little inferior.

But this tripod has NOT lasted like you would expect for its price range. The leveling bubble broke inexplicably after two months, miscellaneous screws loosened, and the pan lock lever fell off at some point—and this is mostly light studio work.

After 6 months, the the extension lock on two of the legs began to fail; in other words, the legs would randomly collapse. Unfortunately, the leg collapsed once during a shoot, and one of our cameras fell, breaking a Nikkor lens.

I personally would never purchase this tripod again, or recommend it to others. I have found few pros and many cons in my 8 months with it.

There's nothing great about this tripod. I bought 2 of them because of the price and shame on me for that. You can tell the minute you pick it up that it is poorly constructed. Pan/tilt are not smooth at all, so every move is unstable. Only using these for wide shots or unmanned cameras. Don't waste your money.

I used this product about once a week for a few months, and I do not recommend it. Some of the components are made of cheap, flimsy plastic. For example, one of the pieces that helps hold the 3 legs in place (in the center) broke and now one of the legs is able to move out all the way, rendering it unusable.

I gave this three stars for the legs. I bought two of these for my company about 4 years ago and they were GREAT tripods. So after three years, I bought one for my personal use, but the manufacturing has been changed, and now this tripod is TERRIBLE. The head is all messed up and the locks force the tripod out of level when they clamp down. I sliced my finger on one of the legs. The only reason I still have it is it stayed in the box until I needed it, by that time, WELL out of my 30 day window for returns. STAY FAR AWAY!

For the price, I have nothing to complain about. But even if you wanted to spend $300 or $400 on a tripod, you wouldn't be dissapointed spending less on this one. I've used my share of pro, over-the-top tripods and when it came time to spend my own coin, this was a great piece.

Be aware the fluid head is NOT in the same arena as a $500 to $1000 unit. Also, the legs are not overly smooth when extending.

I use this tripod everyday in my studio. Its very reliable, and sturdy. While it was a little bit more money than I was planning to spend on a tripod, it was FOR SURE worth the money.
