Comments about MXL V67Q Stereo Condenser Studio Microphone with X/Y Capsules:

I bought this because of the low price point and my experience with a few other MXL mics. What I was looking for was a simpler way to set up a stereo pair for a single instrument. I have been quite suprised at how effective this mic is in conveying a clean clear stereo image. Normally I would set up a pair of U87s in the stereo (top/bottom) config and then nudge them around to attain a stereo image that avoids phase cancellation. Something of a tedious process when working with an artist as even a slight change in capsule orientation can result in phase or eq problems. Because the two capsules on the V67Q are perfectly aligned I can move the single mic to search for the optimum position, way easier than moving a pair on two stands. Nice!

I own lots of new and vintage mics so I can make a valid comparison. It doesn't have the depth or clarity of a Brauner or a FET U47 but those mics cost in excess of $4K. However, it compares closely to a pair of AKG 451b or AKG 414.
I have to give it four stars because its not quite as warm as a U87. I found that putting the inputs through a tube preamp game me warmth and clarity without harshness. Its just spectacular on acoustic guitar and as a drum overhead when you wanna crush the room. I've spent as much as $8K for a mic and yet this has found a way into my locker. It cost me less than the tax on some mics and I'm very happy with it. Definitely worth the expense.

Comments about MXL V67Q Stereo Condenser Studio Microphone with X/Y Capsules:

Solid-sounding mic. Not outstanding, but worth the price - especially considering you can record stereo without worrying about phase issues. There's a lot of low end, so proximity effect can be a problem if you're too close to the mic. Unfortunately, you need to get somewhat close to get a good stereo image or a solo instrument (like an acoustic guitar). Keep that high pass filter handy!
