  • Removable Padded Divider Walls

  • Carrying Handle
  • Padded, Contoured Sling Strap

The Tenba Shootout Sling Bag, Medium (Black with Olive Trim) is a water-resistant ripstop nylon bag that can be converted from a quick-draw shooting bag to a long lens bag. It has movable padded divider walls within the bag that allow the "quick-draw" compartment to be fitted precisely to the main camera/lens combination, and also create additional spaces for extra bodies, lenses and accessories. These walls can be completely removed, turning the sling into a vertically-oriented long lens bag. In this configuration the camera with lens is loaded straight down through the bag via the large top door. This bag can carry 1-2 digital SLR camera bodies with 3-4 lenses, flash and accessories or a digital SLR camera with long lens up to 400mm 2.8 attached.

The sling bag is carried on the back with a single, contoured padded cross-chest strap. This allows it to be swung around in front of the photographer, providing access to a camera with mounted lens, for fast shooting right out of the bag. It has a full-access back panel that can be opened to fully expose the interior for setup, loading and cleaning. The bag uses weather-sealed YKK zippers on all outside openings.

I bought this bag specifically to hold my Olympus E-30 sporting a 2.0 teleconverter and a Sigma 70-200mm AF Zoom Telephoto, WITH the hood in place: The bag can top-load the entire camera, ready to pull out and shoot. That meant I needed 15" of unimpeded space, which lets-out 95% of the backpacks available. It also had to carry onto airplanes and fit at my feet on a safari Land Cruiser. (I carry a small HyperDrive Colorspace UDMA to backup my memory cards, about the size of the notebook hard drive inside it, so I don't need to carry a big-ol' 17" laptop all over Africa like the old pros do. It fits in one of the bag's little pockets, and the Tenba is REALLY slim. I think those pros must drag Hope Chests full of USB hubs and hard drives and laptops and cables and power strips and...) Because you can pull out the "guts" (the dividers) and re-assemble them in different arrangements, this bag fit the bill well. The zippers are all weatherproofed which makes them a little hard to slide but it's worth it for the protection. As for looks, it's a quality bag which doesn't scream STEAL ME, I'M EXPENSIVE! I only wish they'd put the velcro cloth on all 4 inner walls: They have it on 3, and in my re-configuration I could use a way to secure to that un-faced inside surface.

I wanted a bag to keep my two 7Ds with grips and a couple of lenses and a flash, but also able to have my 300mm f/2.8 when needed. This bag does not fit that need.

First of all, it is a VERY tight squeeze to fit a 7d with a grip from either one of the top or side openings. The bag is not deep enough to accommodate the 7D with a grip. That also means that it has a hard time with a professional flash (580exII) as well which is even taller than the 7D with a grip and it pokes me in the back. The back padding feels like it has cardboard underneath it. The inner liners had extra dried glue on them and the pocket on the side wasn't large enough to use for even memory cards. I couldn't get my fingers into it, and I'm kinda scrawny. And I guess I don't have enough padding on my shoulder because this bag left my shoulder bruised after running around Toronto with it.

I've had this bag for 31 days and the weight of my tripod with a RRS head almost tore off one of the mounting things on the side of the bag. What a waste of money. I never realized how great the Tamrac Expedition series was. Looks like I just need one smaller than my current 7x.

Oh, the rain cover was quite nice though and worked pretty well in light rain. It was nice that it was included.

Comments about Tenba Shootout Sling Bag, Medium (Black with Olive Trim):

I needed a bag that would carry several lenses, and a mounted 100-400mm Canon L series lens. And the bag had to comfortable, and relatively light. Since I'm short and weigh 115# I was overwhelmed by the size of some of the bags I tried. I love this bag. First day I loaded up 3 lens, tripod, accessories and my mounted 100-400mm lens and headed to the zoo. It was 90 deg. A great day to try lugging around camera gear. I was pleasantly surprised and had no trouble carrying this bag.

Comments about Tenba Shootout Sling Bag, Medium (Black with Olive Trim):

I needed a mid-range sling bag - not too big, not too small. I have two other bags that I love but one is too big and the other too small for everday use. I also wanted a bag that would hold a small tripod and neither of them had that option. The Tenba Shoutout Medium sling bag looked like it would the bill. However, after configuring the bag and taking it out on several trips, I'm not so sure about the bag. For starters the shoulder strap doesn't have enough padding. The configurable interior panels don't do a very good job dividing the bag and they are difficult to work with. The pocket designed to hold the memory cards is difficult to get into. The lack of padding on the interior caused me to crack my LCD cover!

    Don't Believe the Specifications!

Comments about Tenba Shootout Sling Bag, Medium (Black with Olive Trim):

The Tenba Shootout bag should be SHOT! The specifications list is misleading; one is led to believe this bag is spacious. The included dividers are best left as configured. If you own a small consumer DSLR like a Nikon D90 with nothing but a couple of small DX lenses, you might be happy with this bag. For you PROs with FULL SIZE DSLRs like the Nikon D3 series, look elsewhere. My D3 with 24-70 f/2.8 lens and RRS "L" bracket did not fit without first removing every divider in the lower section, and then, that was all that would fit below. I don't know how they can make a claim about a 400mm f/2.8 lens fitting inside (unless of course it was a micro 4/3rds lens). It was also a fight to get the camera in and out as the zipper openings barely allow for the D3 body to pass through! On pro gear, expect camera brackets or tripod quick release plates to hang up on their way in and out of this bag. My flash mount on the D3 kept snagging on its way in and out too! As for the top section of this bag, I could probably place an SB-800 flash, flash cords and maybe some Pocket Wizard triggers inside. I was looking for a sling bag that would accomodate more. Finally, the fit and finish of this bag needs improvement; the stitching had some minor flaws and lose nylon threads needed to be burned back so they would not unravel further. The weather resistant zippers were a plus, as well as the small tripod holder (think gorilla pod). The elastic bungee could be used for a wind breaker or umbrella. The inside pockets for CF cards were useless and the cell phone holder would accomodate an iPhone without a bulky phone case. Leave the rain cover at home and cary an umbrella instead. As most of my friends shoot with pro gear, I wouldn't recommend it to them. For someone starting out with a consumer level DSLR and a small kit, I would suggest they take a look at it.

Comments about Tenba Shootout Sling Bag, Medium (Black with Olive Trim):

Took the bag on a trip to London and Brussels. The bag is very rugged and fairly easy to swing around for access to the camera. The zippers can be a little stubborn to operate, but appreciate that they are weather proof. It would be good if there was a water bottle holder, but managed to fit one in the top compartment.

Comments about Tenba Shootout Sling Bag, Medium (Black with Olive Trim):

Usual Tenba high quality. But, if you load it from the top with a pro body and a big lens, and sling it around (from your back to your front), you'll be hard pressed to got your camera out if you're right handed; you'll likely need to take the bag off your back to remove your camera. Not the end of the world, but not as convenient as you may have wished (like me).

Comments about Tenba Shootout Sling Bag, Medium (Black with Olive Trim):

I'm a real estate photographer and need several pieces of equipment on a normal shoot but not my entire back pack. The Shootout Sling Bag easily holds a large body camera with a 10-20 wideangle lens in the top compartment and my backup camera, speed light and additional lens in the lower section. Then you have the outer compartment for cards, batteries ant just STUFF. The back is padded and has air channels to keep you cool. The one shoulder design is very comfortable and the breast strap will come in handy when I go hiking. The side access zipper is a little confining but three of the four sides on the back open up to give full access to everything! This was a great find!

I've only had this bag for about a month now but I absolutely love it. Very comfortable to wear even with a lot of gear in it. I use it to store my gear as well which includes a Nikon D80, three extra lenses, a flash, and a Epson P3000 with chargers and cables. The only downsides (and very minor ones at that) are that it would be nice to be able to change the side that the strap is on and maybe have another small pocket for more filters. Other than that it really is an amazing bag. Easy to organize with the zipper on the back and removable inserts. The sling functionality makes it easy to grab the camera in a hurry.

it hurts my right shoulder because my bag is so heavy and you cant switch shoulders. i should have gotten a double strap.

its heavy because i have 3 lenses, 3 flashes, strobe recievers, a d200 with grip, batteries, little misc stuff.

so if you have this much stuff. go for a bigger bag. if youre packing light then you should be ok. and at least you know you can fit a lot of stuff in there.

Comments about Tenba Shootout Sling Bag, Medium (Black with Olive Trim):

I mainly use this for nature photography and hiking. The ability to pull the bag around in front and access your camera makes keeping your camera safe while hiking easy. One drawback I found is you can not change the shoulder it hangs from. But I got used to it very quickly. The inside can be almost completely modified and organized to fit your gear. It's a little bigger than I need, but it's lightweight enough not to notice and it's nice to have more room for when I want it. It's water-resistant and comes with a water-proof cover which makes taking your camera out into nature that much easier. I recently took it hiking just after a heavy rain and as long as I kept the bag closed, my gear never even got moist. The only other thing I didn't like about the pack is it has no room for a water bottle, but one can be clipped to the elastic bands on the back. I would recommend any hiker that enjoys taking their camera along to get this pack.

Very well designed bag. Comfortable with easy access.
The only negative I have is the side opening could be slightly larger. It is a little awkward to get a large body with lens in and out. If you load and unload from the back, then no problem.
That being said, I think this is the best design sling bag on the market. It is very well made, and should last many years with reasonable care.
I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a sling bag.

Comments about Tenba Shootout Sling Bag, Medium (Black with Olive Trim):
