rode comes through for me again. the mount holds my oktava mk012 securely and quietly, for a fraction of the cost of a rycote pistol grip. the unit comes apart easily to install mic and cable. the only problem i've encountered with rode products, has been the threads on their zeppelin and on one of their boompoles, they became stripped easily, and thankfully, the 10 year warranty, and rode's great customer service, have provided me with new brass fittings for both pieces. on this pistol grip, which i mounted to a used ambient recording boompole, via one of their quicklok tips, the tip went in firmly- somewhat stubbornly, but without cross-threading again, i managed to seat the tip into the threads of the pistol grip, and it will not ever have to be removed again. my advice to anyone that purchases the grip or one of their other shockmount/windshield pieces, take your time threading the units, and if possible, use quick release tips, to minimize the chances of future cross-threading. you may also try to apply a small amount of grease to the quicklock threads before installing the tip into the pistol grip or zeppelin.

The rubber mount that holds the mic is incredible solid. Everything else is OK, but I'd never shoot with this without a back up. I've only tested this in the studio, I'll use it in the field for the first time next week, but I don't expect this to hold up long term. The mechanism that collapses the handle is very fiddly.

Comments about Rode PG2 - Pistol Grip Shock Mount with Interchangeable Mounts:

This shock mount holds my NTG-3 very snuggly and does a good job at minimizes the transfer of handling noise to the microphone. The adjustment lever really helps speed up the process of fine tuning the mic's angle. I like that the kit comes also with an optional size to fit other mics.

Comments about Rode PG2 - Pistol Grip Shock Mount with Interchangeable Mounts:

Easy to get my NTG-1 mounted and rolling in the field. You will have to practice a few times getting the cable through the grip if your not going to permanently install one. Its quick, but quirky. I like not having one installed so I can use the cable length needed for the situation. Having a connection just outside the grip is asking for a noise source, so I prefer long cables in some situations.

This mount suppresses noise, it does not eliminate it. Its good for a sound operator that understands having a solid grip, but the rubber housing is too dense to eliminate all noise. It has a place in the bag where a solid grip is needed, but if you are looking for sonic isolation, look elsewhere.

Solid pistol grip and shock mount. Two problems; doesn't come with the mini XLR in the handle, and make you feel like you are damaging the mic when you slide it in and out.

ENG location recordings must have great audio. Part of having great audio is no mic handling noise. The PG2 will hold your microphone quietly whether you're standing still or on the move. Great success using this pistol grip.

Comments about Rode PG2 - Pistol Grip Shock Mount with Interchangeable Mounts:

I use this grip with a Sennheiser ME66/K6 shotgun microphone. I had previously had a different shockmount with a screw-in type handle.
This mount is much quieter and much easier to use in the field. It is solidly put together and very quiet when used properly.
I like the cord tunneling system which runs your mic cord down through the handle to keep it out of the way.
The locking lever which allows you to fold the handle up (or alter its angle) is very solid. It might be hard to use with heavy gloves on in a very cold environment, but otherwise works very well.
I think you would be hard pressed to get a better grip/mount for the price.

Great product quality. The handle is fully adjustable and once adjusted, holds tight. The rubber is just right so it holds the microphone without being able to hear the handling noise.
The 3/8 threads in the handle is perfect for using with a boompole.

Comments about Rode PG2 - Pistol Grip Shock Mount with Interchangeable Mounts:

This mount is the perfect companion for my R0de NTG-3 mic. The rubber housing fits the mic snugly and I have no fear that it will fall out. It's very convenient as it can be used as a pistol grip, and can also be mounted to the end of a boom pole. The tilting head is very easy to operate and has a nice locking lever (though the tightening screw for the lever can loosen easily, but I check it before I lock it down, and once it's locked it doesn't move). The cable management feature under the handle works well, but takes a little practice to get it down quickly. Cable management feature may not be convenient for people who have to set up for shoots super quickly. I haven't had problems so far using the cable management, but I have also practiced doing it at home so I don't waste time on set. Overall, a good value.

sturdy enough to be effective, small enough to store easily. I keep my NTG-2 in it all the time and just fold it down. the option to run a cable through is nice too. screws on easily to my boompole.these style shock-mounts tend to carry a little more sound interference, but as long as you're not jerking it around, it seems to do the trick.

The rubber mount that holds the mic is incredible solid. Everything else is OK, but I'd never shoot with this without a back up. I've only tested this in the studio, I'll use it in the field for the first time next week, but I don't expect this to hold up long term. The mechanism that collapses the handle is very fiddly.

works as a pistol grip or boom shock mount, but the cable threading is too close to the boom thread so it ends up being one or the other. The build quality of the handle feels cheap and the tightening mechanism slips easily. 3 stars is generous.

Many times when we use use our Sennheiser shotgun mike, the boom pole is just too cumbersome. But if we hold the mike in our hand it's too easy to pick up extraneous handling noises. This well-built pistol grip solves that problem by cushoning any movement. It's ease to slide the shotgun into the rubber holder, aim and start rolling tape. Great for doing ambush interviews, etc. They even give you an extra rubber holder to install for when the first one wears out. Very thoughtful.

I got this for some trackside interviews I was planning for a race documentary film. The problem is that 40 yard from the interview (which was outside) Indy cars are practicing. Not the best situation.

With some careful framing and using the Rode shotgun mic as close as possible. The interview was a success. I actually prefer this to a boom for this type of work.

From what I experienced, the pistol grip didn't add any handling noise, and certainly did eliminate the typical handling noise from touching the mic (the cable on the pole of course adds some, but that's not the fault of this guy). The gray plastic cover that can be removed for threading the cable through the handle requires use of a pry tool of some kind so it's not super convenient, but I doubt I'll ever thread the cable through it anyway.

rode comes through for me again. the mount holds my oktava mk012 securely and quietly, for a fraction of the cost of a rycote pistol grip. the unit comes apart easily to install mic and cable. the only problem i've encountered with rode products, has been the threads on their zeppelin and on one of their boompoles, they became stripped easily, and thankfully, the 10 year warranty, and rode's great customer service, have provided me with new brass fittings for both pieces. on this pistol grip, which i mounted to a used ambient recording boompole, via one of their quicklok tips, the tip went in firmly- somewhat stubbornly, but without cross-threading again, i managed to seat the tip into the threads of the pistol grip, and it will not ever have to be removed again. my advice to anyone that purchases the grip or one of their other shockmount/windshield pieces, take your time threading the units, and if possible, use quick release tips, to minimize the chances of future cross-threading. you may also try to apply a small amount of grease to the quicklock threads before installing the tip into the pistol grip or zeppelin.

I definitely prefer the rubber band mounts to the PG2, but that doesn't mean this mount doesn't perform. Runs silent and solid. It takes a bit of effort to add and remove the mic, but you know it's stable and not going anywhere.
