We use the Westcott Spiderlite TD5 lighting system for mobile on-site photography where we almost always do not have enough light. We've been using the 27 watt bulbs for about a year with great success, but we always seem to need more light. We've already used the 50 watt bulbs on four shoots and they make a hugh difference. They provide a lot more light than the 27 watt bulbs, but they still stay cool, which is great when shooting animals and people. The only downside to the these bulbs is that they take up a lot more room in the travel pack, so we had to remove a couple of items to make room. However, this is just a minor issue. The performance of the bulbs far out weighs their size.

Looks great... when the lamps work...

I have yet to order a set of lamps that doesn't have at least one dud. Hard to trust, so I no longer take on location.

High output, quiet, cool running and good color rendering, but won't fit in my InterFit Super5 Cool-Lite fixture.

So far the lights work great. I bought these for Spiderlite TD5 and so far so good. I was considering the 5x30 but went with these because I knew that I would probably regret it. The lights run cool for the most part but the base does get really hot.

Buying the 50 watt pack is probably the best thing I did with this setup. You gt pure bright, whit light. In fact, I think Westcott must make this the default package for the TD5 kits.

Comments about Westcott Fluorescent Lamp Five Pack - 4x50, 1x20 Watts/120 Volts:

I was reviewing a variety of ways to get 1000W floods for an upcoming shoot when I remembered Westcott had released the new higher powered bulbs for the Spider TD 5. I ordered two sets of bulbs for my Spiders and got great group shots of 34 kids and 4 adults. The group moderator can't handle flash. The individual shots were easily covered by my 5D MII and 70-200mm f2.8L lense - these lights got me enough light to close down and get more than enough depth for 5 rows of people - Thanks Westcott!!!
I had them set up ahead of time with the softboxes (no scrims) and was able to move them in at the end of the event, get a dozen shots and be finished and out of the way before anyone got fidgety!
The old caps I have for the original bulbs won't fit these bulbs and this unit appears pretty fragile - I need to order the new TD5 caps so I don't have to remove the bulbs between shoots.

If you use the Spiderlites, you have to have a pack of these. Good value, invaluable for the pro on the road or even in the studio. More than once I've bumped a spiderlite and well.... the story is obvious.

When I bought my TD-5 with the "kit" set of 27W fluorescent bulbs, I confess to having been a bit disappointed with the output. These bulbs certainly make a noticeable difference, though the slender 20W center bulb is pretty much useless - I'd venture a guess that it is only included because they needed to fit SOMETHING in the small space left in the center position; these 50W bulbs are substantially larger in diameter than their 27W brethren.

The good news is that the protective cover available for the TD-5 will fit over the head with the 50W set installed.

We use the lights for green screen photography and the increased brightness has been a huge help. Allows greater control over the environment. Lights break easily and need to be handled with care. The protective cap we bought for the spider light does not fit over the larger bulbs.

Comments about Westcott Fluorescent Lamp Five Pack - 4x50, 1x20 Watts/120 Volts:
