The Glidecam HD2000 is a lightweight, hand-held camcorder stabilizing system. This system is upgraded from the 2000 Pro and offers fine adjustments and an improved gimbal and balance system.

Camera stabilization systems like this one work to provide camera stability during movement for dynamic and subjective camera shots. It utilizes a balancing system that dampens the user's body movement, providing a smooth, floating moving image appearance usually achieved with more expensive equipment.

Upgrades from 2000 Pro
This system is upgraded in its gimbal movement and adjustment of convergence and camera balance.

The Glidecam HD-2000 stabilizer is a great tool for videographers and video enthusiasts in general to have. If you like to shoot video while in motion (following someone, going around something/someone, etc.), then this is the tool for you. The difference between a handheld walking shot and one with the Glidecam is night and day. It gives the shot a much more professional look, without the camera shake that often makes videos look more amateurish.

However, it's not that easy to get the Glidecam balanced properly. And I don't think this is a flaw in the product, it's just that the physics involved are tricky. For once, you have to make sure that when you balance it, the camera is setup EXACTLY the way it will be setup when you shoot (battery in, lens cap off, viewfinder set to the desired position, accessories, if any mounted, etc.). Otherwise, if you balance it and then use a heavier/lighter battery, or pull out the viewfinder, the rig will be off balance again. The key is to follow the instructions and take your time. And be ready to get your arms really tired from testing, adjusting, testing, adjusting until you get it right.

One gripe I have is the system to add weights to the base of the unit. I wish they'd come up with a different system to make is easier and quicker to switch weights. You have to remove 2 thumb nuts for each side (front and back) every time you want to add/remove plates, and the bolts that the weights slide into are very long (to accommodate for more plates). On top of that, you have to use both hands because the bolts will fall off if you have the unit standing with the camera on top while adjusting it, and if you don't hold the bolts, often they turn with the nuts, and you don't go anywhere. Another gripe: I wish the quick release plate would have an easier way to mount/unmount the camera to it. If you want to take the camera off, you have to remove the plate with the camera from the Glidecam and then remove the screw to "free" the camera. Something like the quick release mechanisms available in tripods would be extremely helpful for videographers on the go. Other than that, the unit is very well designed.

You will get tired using this unit. There's no way around it, unless you buy the very expensive vest or arm brace accessories available for it. It also takes a little getting used to it and a lot of practice to get those perfect shots we are all looking for. But once you get the hang of it, you will really enjoy its benefits. The construction quality is excellent and sturdy. The grip is comfortable and big enough for large hands.

Overall, this is a very useful tool to have and will make your videos look much better. There are lighter and cheaper units out there, but this one provides a lot of flexibility and a more robust design that accommodates for heavier equipment, etc. I recommend this unit.

The equipment gives me new experience. I love to use it anywhere I can bring. I think the glidecam maker should improve their product. The release plate system to attach to camera is uncomfortable and dangerous to operate, especially when you are on field and don't have enough time to adapt new situations. I nearly droped my camera because of relying on the glidecam's plate. I recommend you guys, who want to use the glidecam HD2000 seriously, should buy a quick release adapter system.
To control and handle the direction of glidecam, you should cover around the Central Post by a nylon-conton band.
If you guys do business relying on it, you should practice a lot. And before you go to shoot, you have to prepare and calibrate it carefully. You will not have enough time to adjust its balance on field. When you shoot video at place that has windy conditions, your device may lose it balance, so an advice is you should put more weight on it.

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

Wow! What a huge difference this device makes. For a number of years I've debated getting one due to many saying it's hard to balance etc.

I had no issues with mine at all. I ordered it on a Monday and in the three days it took to get to me, I watched many YouTube videos and read many websites on how to set it up and use it. That probably helped a lot.

It took 1 hour to get it assembled and balanced for the first time.

Each subsequent time has taken 1-2 minutes. Not bad at all.

I practice with it for 15-20 minutes a time several days a week. Simply walking around the house and up small flights of stairs will get you use to it pretty quick. More advanced moves will of course take a lot more practice.

2 suggestions - (1) I got the light stand adapter because I knew my stands were too fat for the handle to fit onto for balancing purposes. That adapter is perfect. (2) I got a Manfrotto 577 QR system because all my gear uses the 501 plate. It really makes a big difference in moving the camera between gear.

Having used this now for several weeks, I think I'm actually going to get another DSLR and make it my Glidecam only camera. For weddings, I don't want to be having to take the camera off etc.

Right now I'm flying a Nikon D750 with either the 24-120 F4 or a Tokina 11-16 F2.8. I'll probably pick up a D7200 so I can keep the Tokina on it on the Glidecam.

If you've been thinking about getting one, go for it! It's pretty low cost, even considering the new Ronin M. I personally like not having to worry about power and batteries on the Glidecam too. I've already got a bunch of equipment that requires batteries and chargers.

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

This may not be the cheapest item out there, and it will take some time initially to learn how to set up, but once you do and it works, it really takes your video to the next level.

you can walk, jump, or run - it really wont matter. you'll still get super smooth shots every time.

don't be discouraged, however, if it takes you a long time to set up and be balanced. this is completely NORMAL.

Also, you should use a light stand to help you with the stabilization. It REALLY helps.

I realy thought this is an amazing product... The build quality is high... I have used it a couple of times... still working my technique... it does take some effort to be able to use this device properly. It can be heavy to use for extended periods... There are ways to deal with that. But with the weights on the bottom properly setup for your camera... it will really smooth things out...

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

As others may have elaborated in previous reviews. Assembling the Glidecam Systems is fairly easy when using the instruction manual. Assembly requires an Allen Wrench (Not included). 1-3 hours to setup

After assembly put away the manual and start searching for balancing videos online. 15 mins to Balance if you find a good video.

Note: The Glidecam System requires a slight modification in order to properly use the optional Manfrotto 577 Quick Release plate. One hole has to be drilled out to fit the larger middle screw.

Performance requires practice. Don't expect to instantly get amazing footage on your first attempt. Practice walking and aiming for a few hours a couple days before the shoot. Also keep in mind that this plus the camera and lens will be heavy... and you'll eventually end up with fantastic smooth footage!

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

I used this for an entire music video shoot, and operated it for many hours at a time. I've been flying the 5D Mark III and 24-70mm Mark II. That's a combined weight of around 1.6kg, and I've been using 2 weight plates. After a full day of operation, of course your arm will be weak and it will inhibit long shots. You need two arms to operate this setup, one to hold the rig, and the other to frame and adjust the position of the gimbal.

                    It is good for one thing, and that is keeping a steady shot through movement. It is very affordable in comparison to some setups, below are some very important things to think about;

                    1) Focus: touching the equipment will throw the balance off. Only way to focus is electronically, i.e from within Magic Lantern during a shot. Other than that, you'll need to focus at the start of your shoot before you're recording.

                    2) Adjusting focal length, sometimes even focus will throw the balance off, this means you will have to adjust the top plates' position.

                    3) Is prone to bump into things if you shoot in tight spaces, meaning the balance will be thrown off.

                    4) At high speeds, wind will naturally blow the rig backward and this can cause for some awkward movement.

Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic piece of equipment, but it is not an all-around stabiliser. If you need to shoot at low apertures, where focus is key, you can almost forget it without a remote wirless focus station, or magic lantern rack focus (long setup times).

Adjusting the weights on set is also time consuming, after changing focal lengths, and in general makes you look unprofessional.

This, coupled with a shoulder rig would probably provide the best and cheapest on the fly shots for gorilla film makers. This is not by any means a replacement, but an addition to your shots, where you need nice smooth fluidy movements at high apertures.

I have one day prior to the shoot date to learn how to use it.I watched some videos on youtube on balancing it and within 20 minutes had mine balanced enough to produce a smooth video. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to learn it, just focus and patience. Used it for 3 days in a row never had any issues. Sure, i need more user practice to get better at shooting but its worth the time and for a 1st time user really great results.

I have been able to balance it and it took me a little bit of time and a bunch of youtube videos.I have a lot of work to do still, but otherwise I still love the ability to move on the fly.Still considering moving up to the HD4000 since it would hold a larger amount of weight. But even this thing gets tiring to hold.

The HD2000 is a great product. I have been using it now for a few weeks with my GH3. It was easy to setup and balance. I still need some practice operating it, but overall the video quality is excellent right out of the box.

This is a very good camera stabilizer product but needs a support like the Eroz X1.

I've done an extensive amount of research on dslr stabilizers and the Glidecam always rated the best at this price range. There are so many options and most are half the price but be cautious! I won't reveal the brand but I spent $ on one a few months back and the quality was horrible! I should've went with my initial choice which was the Glidecam but instead, I wanted to save $. As a result, i wasted $ and got an inferior product that I have no use for. Although I have not used the Glidecam yet, there is a significant difference in quality between the two products and the extra $$ I forked over was well woth it!If you are debating between the Glidecam and any other system, look no further. Do yourself a favor and choose the glidecam.

A lot of camera ops I look up to rock the HD-2000, and I've been meaning to add it to my rig for a while now. I finally purchased it, and I'm stoked. I used it yesterday for the first time on a shoot. And it was awesome. Following people entering a building. Getting them talking, sitting down. Great stuff. I need a wider lens. Right now using my 24-105 all the way wide, but thinking about getting the Samyang 16 mm prime. Also, the quick release plate is essential for workflow.
