The Glidecam HD2000 is a lightweight, hand-held camcorder stabilizing system. This system is upgraded from the 2000 Pro and offers fine adjustments and an improved gimbal and balance system.

Camera stabilization systems like this one work to provide camera stability during movement for dynamic and subjective camera shots. It utilizes a balancing system that dampens the user's body movement, providing a smooth, floating moving image appearance usually achieved with more expensive equipment.

The Glidecam HD-2000 stabilizer is a great tool for videographers and video enthusiasts in general to have. If you like to shoot video while in motion (following someone, going around something/someone, etc.), then this is the tool for you. The difference between a handheld walking shot and one with the Glidecam is night and day. It gives the shot a much more professional look, without the camera shake that often makes videos look more amateurish.

However, it's not that easy to get the Glidecam balanced properly. And I don't think this is a flaw in the product, it's just that the physics involved are tricky. For once, you have to make sure that when you balance it, the camera is setup EXACTLY the way it will be setup when you shoot (battery in, lens cap off, viewfinder set to the desired position, accessories, if any mounted, etc.). Otherwise, if you balance it and then use a heavier/lighter battery, or pull out the viewfinder, the rig will be off balance again. The key is to follow the instructions and take your time. And be ready to get your arms really tired from testing, adjusting, testing, adjusting until you get it right.

One gripe I have is the system to add weights to the base of the unit. I wish they'd come up with a different system to make is easier and quicker to switch weights. You have to remove 2 thumb nuts for each side (front and back) every time you want to add/remove plates, and the bolts that the weights slide into are very long (to accommodate for more plates). On top of that, you have to use both hands because the bolts will fall off if you have the unit standing with the camera on top while adjusting it, and if you don't hold the bolts, often they turn with the nuts, and you don't go anywhere. Another gripe: I wish the quick release plate would have an easier way to mount/unmount the camera to it. If you want to take the camera off, you have to remove the plate with the camera from the Glidecam and then remove the screw to "free" the camera. Something like the quick release mechanisms available in tripods would be extremely helpful for videographers on the go. Other than that, the unit is very well designed.

You will get tired using this unit. There's no way around it, unless you buy the very expensive vest or arm brace accessories available for it. It also takes a little getting used to it and a lot of practice to get those perfect shots we are all looking for. But once you get the hang of it, you will really enjoy its benefits. The construction quality is excellent and sturdy. The grip is comfortable and big enough for large hands.

Overall, this is a very useful tool to have and will make your videos look much better. There are lighter and cheaper units out there, but this one provides a lot of flexibility and a more robust design that accommodates for heavier equipment, etc. I recommend this unit.

The equipment gives me new experience. I love to use it anywhere I can bring. I think the glidecam maker should improve their product. The release plate system to attach to camera is uncomfortable and dangerous to operate, especially when you are on field and don't have enough time to adapt new situations. I nearly droped my camera because of relying on the glidecam's plate. I recommend you guys, who want to use the glidecam HD2000 seriously, should buy a quick release adapter system.
To control and handle the direction of glidecam, you should cover around the Central Post by a nylon-conton band.
If you guys do business relying on it, you should practice a lot. And before you go to shoot, you have to prepare and calibrate it carefully. You will not have enough time to adjust its balance on field. When you shoot video at place that has windy conditions, your device may lose it balance, so an advice is you should put more weight on it.

Takes a while to learn- if you have a specific project in mind, make sure you order this two-three weeks out to have time to truly get the balance down- but once you have it, it works like a dream.

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

I used this for an entire music video shoot, and operated it for many hours at a time. I've been flying the 5D Mark III and 24-70mm Mark II. That's a combined weight of around 1.6kg, and I've been using 2 weight plates. After a full day of operation, of course your arm will be weak and it will inhibit long shots. You need two arms to operate this setup, one to hold the rig, and the other to frame and adjust the position of the gimbal.

              It is good for one thing, and that is keeping a steady shot through movement. It is very affordable in comparison to some setups, below are some very important things to think about;

              1) Focus: touching the equipment will throw the balance off. Only way to focus is electronically, i.e from within Magic Lantern during a shot. Other than that, you'll need to focus at the start of your shoot before you're recording.

              2) Adjusting focal length, sometimes even focus will throw the balance off, this means you will have to adjust the top plates' position.

              3) Is prone to bump into things if you shoot in tight spaces, meaning the balance will be thrown off.

              4) At high speeds, wind will naturally blow the rig backward and this can cause for some awkward movement.

Don't get me wrong, this is a fantastic piece of equipment, but it is not an all-around stabiliser. If you need to shoot at low apertures, where focus is key, you can almost forget it without a remote wirless focus station, or magic lantern rack focus (long setup times).

Adjusting the weights on set is also time consuming, after changing focal lengths, and in general makes you look unprofessional.

This, coupled with a shoulder rig would probably provide the best and cheapest on the fly shots for gorilla film makers. This is not by any means a replacement, but an addition to your shots, where you need nice smooth fluidy movements at high apertures.

I purchased this item for a video i was hired to do for a resort. I have one day prior to the shoot date to learn how to use it.I watched some videos on youtube on balancing it and within 20 minutes had mine balanced enough to produce a smooth video. It doesnt take a rocket scientist to learn it, just focus and patience. Used it for 3 days in a row never had any issues. Sure, i need more user practice to get better at shooting but its worth the time and for a 1st time user really great results.

The HD2000 and H4000 are right in between for weight capacity. It's a bit annoying. I have been able to balance it and it took me a little bit of time and a bunch of youtube videos.I have a lot of work to do still, but otherwise I still love the ability to move on the fly.Still considering moving up to the HD4000 since it would hold a larger amount of weight. But even this thing gets tiring to hold.

I've done an extensive amount of research on dslr stabilizers and the Glidecam always rated the best at this price range. There are so many options and most are half the price but be cautious! I won't reveal the brand but I spent $ on one a few months back and the quality was horrible! I should've went with my initial choice which was the Glidecam but instead, I wanted to save $. As a result, i wasted $ and got an inferior product that I have no use for. Although I have not used the Glidecam yet, there is a significant difference in quality between the two products and the extra $$ I forked over was well woth it!If you are debating between the Glidecam and any other system, look no further. Do yourself a favor and choose the glidecam.

I used it yesterday for the first time on a shoot. And it was awesome. Following people entering a building. Getting them talking, sitting down. Great stuff. I need a wider lens. Right now using my 24-105 all the way wide, but thinking about getting the Samyang 16 mm prime. Also, the quick release plate is essential for workflow.

I use the glidecam for weddings, run & gun videography, and independent film production. It took a fairly long time to get properly balanced, but works well now.

How well the HD2000 holds up in performance depends greatly on your expectations; if you're expecting perfect footage like you'd get from a Ronin or a Movi, you're going to be very disappointed and think that the HD2000 is garbage. However, if you're just looking for a way to clean up your footage so it doesn't detract by being too bouncy and jerky, then you'll be thrilled with the HD2000.

The only thing I can complain about is that it's difficult to hold the camera low to the ground, because the top of the handle butts up against the mounting plate. Other than that, with practice, the HD2000 is a great solution for steady footage on a budget.

Good product and a good forearm workout device. Thought I might need to upgrade to the 4000 but it was plenty for my DSLR (Canon 5D).

There is a bit of a learning curve to balancing your camera and flying the Glidecam but put in the time and you will be rewarded greatly. Each camera setup will be a bit different so don't be discouraged during the balancing process. Get it as close as you can, fly your camera, balance again, fly your camera again, repeat, repeat, repeat. I can't stress enough the more you use this item the better the rewards.

As an amateur filmmaker, I am always looking for gear that will add a cinematic quality to my work. The Glidecam works with a wide range of dlsrs and camcorders. It takes some patience balancing, but if you put in the work, the product will look superb. One thing to know with the glidecam is it takes practice and patiences to get the best shots. So grab your glidecam, and hit the field fellow filmmakers!

I'm very impressed with the quality the glidecam hd2000 adds to my videos. It is generally easy to set up if you follow the instructions. It does take some time and skill to balance properly, however. But it's a GREAT investment and to me, it's worth every penny.

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

I've used this product multiple times now that I can say I'm beginning to get comfortable with it. The hardest part is getting my DSLR to balance properly with it. Once I got through it, it is probably the most versatile stability gear I can find in the market. I must note though that I have to give myself enough time to do some minor balancing adjustments prior to using it. Even if I'm sure I've balanced it last time, for some reason, the next time I bring it out, I would need to rebalance it again the night before or a few hours before I intend to use it. Learning how to move (walk) with it is probably another hurdle, but for me, it sort of came with time the longer I used it. Practicing at home certainly helps. The materials used in this product are really durable --- all metal. I hope it lasts a long time.
