The Glidecam HD2000 is a lightweight, hand-held camcorder stabilizing system. This system is upgraded from the 2000 Pro and offers fine adjustments and an improved gimbal and balance system.

Camera stabilization systems like this one work to provide camera stability during movement for dynamic and subjective camera shots. It utilizes a balancing system that dampens the user's body movement, providing a smooth, floating moving image appearance usually achieved with more expensive equipment.

Upgrades from 2000 Pro
This system is upgraded in its gimbal movement and adjustment of convergence and camera balance.

The Glidecam HD-2000 stabilizer is a great tool for videographers and video enthusiasts in general to have. If you like to shoot video while in motion (following someone, going around something/someone, etc.), then this is the tool for you. The difference between a handheld walking shot and one with the Glidecam is night and day. It gives the shot a much more professional look, without the camera shake that often makes videos look more amateurish.

However, it's not that easy to get the Glidecam balanced properly. And I don't think this is a flaw in the product, it's just that the physics involved are tricky. For once, you have to make sure that when you balance it, the camera is setup EXACTLY the way it will be setup when you shoot (battery in, lens cap off, viewfinder set to the desired position, accessories, if any mounted, etc.). Otherwise, if you balance it and then use a heavier/lighter battery, or pull out the viewfinder, the rig will be off balance again. The key is to follow the instructions and take your time. And be ready to get your arms really tired from testing, adjusting, testing, adjusting until you get it right.

One gripe I have is the system to add weights to the base of the unit. I wish they'd come up with a different system to make is easier and quicker to switch weights. You have to remove 2 thumb nuts for each side (front and back) every time you want to add/remove plates, and the bolts that the weights slide into are very long (to accommodate for more plates). On top of that, you have to use both hands because the bolts will fall off if you have the unit standing with the camera on top while adjusting it, and if you don't hold the bolts, often they turn with the nuts, and you don't go anywhere. Another gripe: I wish the quick release plate would have an easier way to mount/unmount the camera to it. If you want to take the camera off, you have to remove the plate with the camera from the Glidecam and then remove the screw to "free" the camera. Something like the quick release mechanisms available in tripods would be extremely helpful for videographers on the go. Other than that, the unit is very well designed.

You will get tired using this unit. There's no way around it, unless you buy the very expensive vest or arm brace accessories available for it. It also takes a little getting used to it and a lot of practice to get those perfect shots we are all looking for. But once you get the hang of it, you will really enjoy its benefits. The construction quality is excellent and sturdy. The grip is comfortable and big enough for large hands.

Overall, this is a very useful tool to have and will make your videos look much better. There are lighter and cheaper units out there, but this one provides a lot of flexibility and a more robust design that accommodates for heavier equipment, etc. I recommend this unit.

The equipment gives me new experience. I love to use it anywhere I can bring. I think the glidecam maker should improve their product. The release plate system to attach to camera is uncomfortable and dangerous to operate, especially when you are on field and don't have enough time to adapt new situations. I nearly droped my camera because of relying on the glidecam's plate. I recommend you guys, who want to use the glidecam HD2000 seriously, should buy a quick release adapter system.
To control and handle the direction of glidecam, you should cover around the Central Post by a nylon-conton band.
If you guys do business relying on it, you should practice a lot. And before you go to shoot, you have to prepare and calibrate it carefully. You will not have enough time to adjust its balance on field. When you shoot video at place that has windy conditions, your device may lose it balance, so an advice is you should put more weight on it.

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

I've used this product multiple times now that I can say I'm beginning to get comfortable with it. The hardest part is getting my DSLR to balance properly with it. Once I got through it, it is probably the most versatile stability gear I can find in the market. I must note though that I have to give myself enough time to do some minor balancing adjustments prior to using it. Even if I'm sure I've balanced it last time, for some reason, the next time I bring it out, I would need to rebalance it again the night before or a few hours before I intend to use it. Learning how to move (walk) with it is probably another hurdle, but for me, it sort of came with time the longer I used it. Practicing at home certainly helps. The materials used in this product are really durable --- all metal. I hope it lasts a long time.

Using this with an HDSLR for wedding videos. Makes the footage nice and smooth and stable. Takes lots of practice though before you can get good results. Balancing can be done quickly and much easier with a bubble level attached to the plate and placing the handle over the end of a light stand. You'll also want to use a wide lens for smoothest looking results.

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

This is one of the best accessories you can get to improve the quality of your shots. Regardless of the camera you have, you can create cinematic movements with what this piece of gear provides. It really is a wonderful and exciting device to use. It does require some care and skill to use and setup but first off, just watch some videos, there are many on YouTube. And then when ready to use, just practice using it and you will pick it up.

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

I will be using this as a stabilizer for wedding videos. I was concerned how long it would take to balance the HD2000 after reading reviews online but had it very stable after about an hour. I've had it for about a month now and can balance it within minutes when putting on a new camera or lens. I'm currently using with my 60D but have put my 5DMIII as well. The only down side to using the 5D is the weight. It's about 1.5 lbs. heavier with my 5D (and the lens I use). That doesn't sound like a lot, but when you try to hold this thing for any length of time, it gets heavy fast! There is a learning curve with this piece of gear. Don't expect to take it out of the box, balance it and begin shooting perfectly balanced, smooth shots. Yes, your video will look great right off the bat, but you must practice a lot before your shots start looking brilliant. Having it only a month, I'm still learning on how to fly it but my shots have greatly improved. It is very sturdy, made incredibly well made and can take a pretty good beating. I would highly recommend getting a quick release for the baseplate. The Manfrotto 577 works very well for this. This is a wonderful piece of gear that I would recommend every video hobbyist/professional have!

Takes some getting used to to get the rig balanced and takes some practice to pull off the shots you want to with it. Good way to get dynamic shots without setting up a lot of equipment. It's heavy with the 5D3, a lot of strain on your wrist at first. Good for run and gun productions.

I am a church camp videographer. I have been drooling for one of these babies for some time now. I hand held my Canon T4i and no matter how much weight I added to the camera for stabilizing, I would have shake. The 3 way gimbal performs extremely smooth! I have already seen improvement in my quality of footage. The only thing I have struggled with is the fine tuning of balancing my camera out near perfect. Also, the QR plate that you can get with the HD2000 doesn't work pleasantly with your DSLR. From a 5D Mrk3 to T4i, you will have an issue with the QR plate accessory.

This is an amazing stabilizer but there's a catch. You need to spend a lot of time practicing with it. The concept of how to use it is extremely easy but actual practice takes a lot of finesse and fine motor skills. It did wonders for my shots but took a while to have the skill to get it right. Highly recommended for camera operators on a budget.

Comments about Glidecam HD2000 Stabilizer System:

We are a portrait studio that is stepping into the next world of film with DSLR cameras. Live action content is becoming paramount for marketing - YouTube and Twitter are replacing all the strategies that we knew. Smart Phones give everyone the chance to share their world via the recorded image and word.

If you want to go forward with your business and do film, then you simply have to have this Glidecam. It's made specifically for DSLR cameras and the footage you capture will be night and day difference to anything you could capture with your hands alone. Move your footage from the tripod and put it into motion, just like your clients can do with their phone.

But be prepared to spend time with this tool, learning how to use it. It isn't a plug and play sort of thing - you have to learn how to use it gracefully. A must accessory is the sleeve that is made for it. A little pricey, but absolutely necessary to go along with the Glidecam. Nothing is stopping you from capturing the footage you see in your mind - and I bet that footage doesn't shake :)

I create a homemade stabilizer. When I messed up the balance while film, I just stopped and left to home. With HD2000, I can just adjust the balance under 5 minutes and resume film. I bought a vest/arm system and created custom adapter that allows to connect between HD2000 and arm. The combine improved effect than hand-held! This product just is amazed. Most time, I film at inverse HD2000. Yes, it is required to practice to master stabilizer.

OK, I can obviously see the benefits with using this device. I've only spent a week with it, so probably to early to make a final decision on whether to keep it. Part of the problem may be my setup: Canon C100, 24-70 2.8L lens, extended battery and shotgun microphone. Definitely at the weight limits of the HD2000. Didn't want to buy the HD4000 as I may want to place my Canon 5D Mark iii on the glidecam. That being said, I'm not a weakling by any means, and this thing is HEAVY!!! 30 seconds is all I can manage for a shoot. The torque on the wrist is unbearable. I've ordered the forearm brace, so hopefully that will help. Primary usage will be for wedding videography, so I'm just not sure if this will work in such a changing environment. Just taking the camera off and on results in having to slightly rebalance. Questioning if this will be feasible in the hectic day of a wedding (switching from hand held, tripod and glidecam continuously). I so want to like this product, but just not sure if it is truly designed to be handheld based upon my video camera or if it will require to much finesse during a shoot.

Take the... time to PRACTICE and WATCH ALL THE YOUTUBE videos on how to use, balance and set up this thing. OTHERWISE you will be a frustrated quitter. DONT BE A QUITTER! Just like anything else, there is a learning curve and setup time is necessary (per lens/camera you choose) to use this effectively! But the results are AMAZING! OH YEA... Don't even THINK about using this without the arm brace or the vest. You are not going to be able to use it for ANY length of time because it does KILL your arm/wrist after awhile. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! So just get the arm brace for shorter shots, if you are doing LONGER LENGTH shots, you better think about investing one the support Arm/Vest. The Merlin Stedicam Vest works well (if you buy the adapter bolt that fits Glidecam Stabilizers)You will get amazing shots with practice. The footage is fantastic if used sparingly. Just get it or the Merlin 2. Either way you will be happy with the footage IF you practice and get the Vest or Arm Support rigs too.

Definitely a learning curve with balancing and using this but once you get the hang of it, you can get some great shots. Build quality is excellent. The fine adjustment knobs help a lot (a great improvement over the older model). If you want a reliable camera stabilizer that won't break the bank, go with this. There are cheaper alternatives out there but you get what you pay for. I've already used this in the studio and out in the field and love the results. Can't wait to start using this on some short films.

I use it to film live music shows and festivals, it is amazing and is so easy to balance and use. The counter weight system is spot on and the quick release place is very easy to use! There is nothing about this that was not good and was absolutely and will always be my #1 choice for live shows!

I use this for a 5D MkII and a few different shorter L lenses. It took about 2 hours to get it assembled and weighted correctly for the lens I had on. It took another hour when I switched lenses to get the weight correct. I think that once I've spent some time with it I'll have a pretty good idea of how to balance each of my lenses pretty quickly. Overall, it's easy to use. It definitely takes some practice! So don't think that you will get going right out of the box. There's a specific technique to it.The Manfrotto 577 is helpful like others said, but the knob that locks it in place takes some adjusting since it rests on the top plate.

After much finagling I got the HD2000 to work. It does what it's supposed to do; I get nice floating video. It's best when you use the same equipment on the glidecam so you don't have to constantly work the algorithm.
