The MXL FR-355K Lavalier Kit is a pair of lavalier microphones, one with a cardioid and one with an omnidirectional polar pattern. It is intended to provide the user with options for interviews, instrument capturing, presentations and other applications.
The cardioid pattern microphone yields a generous pickup area while maintaining adequate feedback and noise rejection at the off-axis section of the capsule. The omnidirectional polar pattern microphone provides a uniform frequency response at the direct and off-axis sections of the capsule, and is noted to reject clothing, contact and handling noise more efficiently.
The lavalier pair of mics both require phantom power, feature XLR output connectors and include a windscreen and clothing clip. The modestly priced kit is an ideal solution for in studio interviews, instrument capturing and more.

I am very impressed with this product. The Price vs. Quality is very good. I am quite impressed with the sound quality. Only thing that worries me, is the quality of the wiring, seems a bit thin, but so far so good. Only other thing is that for lav mics, these are very big.
But overall, this kit is a great buy.

The bad points first. The inside of the connector is way to small. I almost rip the xlr connector from my camera trying to remove it. The second mic ( this time connected to a xlr cable!) was as tight. And the wires are flimsy looking! The solutions? A bit of sanding and graphite and the connector problem is solved. And for the wire, a bit of camera tape to secure the wire to the casing, with some slack and the connection should stay fine for a while. I used a different color for each mic.
The cardio is very small and the pick-up pattern of the omni is great. And the quality of the sound? I have a Tram and a Sony. These guys are not as clean but very close.Close enough that I will buy 2 more pairs just in case. A must have.

Comments about MXL FR-355K Lavalier Interview Microphone Kit:
The headline pretty much says it all. This is a good, inexpensive set of mics. We bought 2 set and use them for interviews. Only real downside to them is the head on the cardiod mic is larger and not as discrete as I'd like and the clip on the omni fits too loose.

Comments about MXL FR-355K Lavalier Interview Microphone Kit:
Purchased these mics for use by students to record interviews. Great price for a couple of XLR mics. Unfortunately, I find their build quality to be a little cheap. Although the wire used for the cord is Mogami, it still feels a little flimsy.
One major issue I have found with this product is that the XLR connector is a little too big to fit into most xlr jacks. To solve this, I simply used an XLR patch cable.
Audio quality is decent for the price.

Comments about MXL FR-355K Lavalier Interview Microphone Kit:
I bought these as extra mics for a webcast setup. The tiny mic worked great, and could probably be discretely hung in the hair of a performer if you didn't want to use it as a lavaliere. The cable is tiny, and I fear it is fragile. The lavaliere tie clip attaches to the cable. In a standard lavaliere location, the bigger mic overloaded and distorted whenever the voice got louder. I found it unusable. Maybe I just got a bad mic. A bit disappointing; the MXL condenser mics I bought years ago for $80 still outperform the Audio Technical condenser mic that costs more.

Comments about MXL FR-355K Lavalier Interview Microphone Kit:
Decent for the money, not great. I do like the phantom powered feature, I was tired of little batteries on my old lavs'. The cable on the omni is very light guage, probably will not hold up long, but if I just bought the "kit" for the cartoid mic, it's still less than the lowest priced Shure mic. Sounds OK, I was not interested in spending hundreds on a lav, as I primarily use a mic on a boom.

Comments about MXL FR-355K Lavalier Interview Microphone Kit:
I bought these mics to use for simple testimonial footage for seminars. They do capture voice fairly well. I also placed them inside an engine of a car to get audio for a car. They seem to highlight the mid range heavily. The downfall I have with these is the construction on the XLR connection. I recomend using a separate cable to run into your gear as the pins almost need to be finessed into the jack. Better to ruin $20 cable than $2,000 Mixer/Camera.

Comments about MXL FR-355K Lavalier Interview Microphone Kit:
I purchased 2 of these kits, and despite the fact that one of the omni mics arrived defective, here is what I think. I was going to use these kits for legal deposition video work and just needed to stay in budget for my audio setup so I bought a nicer Shure mic for the deponent and these 2 Marshall kits for the attorneys, and since they came with 2 mics per kit, I would also have backups. I had heard that there were a few issues with these but the pricepoint was too attractive to pass up, and reviewers generally seemed to like them for what they were. I'll cut to the chase. There was considerably more noise to these than to the Shure I purchased, however the sound was acceptable. The complaint that the XLR connector is tight plugging it into anything is absolutely true. It is incredibly tight and always feels like your forcing it, so you can never quite tell if it is lined up properly to start with. Besides the fact that one of them didn't work, my biggest reason for sending both kits back was that they were extremely flimsy, and I would have been shocked if I would have gotten 6 months worth of work out of those. The biggest concern is where the wire enters the metal condenser cartridge. It is a very small gauged wire into a heavy piece of metal and it feels like there is nothing holding the two together besides the solder at the wire connection inside the cartridge. If you spun it around a few times like a lasso, I swear that thing would fly right off and put out somebody's eye. Despite the pricepoint, my expectations, low as they were, were not met. I won't be buying a mic from this company again.

Of course they are going to be like the Sonys I used to rent, but they work for what I need them for. We're not outside or moving much. So they pick up what I need them to. The paint on the inputs made it hard to plug in and unplug them. I was afraid they wouldn't fit until I shoved them in hard enough. For what I paid, they do the job.

I recently purchased these mics to use with my H4n recorder and a Canon DSLR. Since I got them I have done a couple of tests and one larger project. Overall I have been pleased with the quality of the audio and also the construction of the mics... here are a few more details.
Pros:
1) Good price
2) Clear audio
3) Works well with field recorder
Cons:
1) They are obviously wired, so you are limited by your xlr cable length.
2) Picked up some pops when the subject was speaking (probably my poor placement)
3) Phantom power drains portable audio recorders batteries really fast.
I would definitely recommend them if you understand the limitations of what you are working with.

Two mics, for the price of one! This came in very handy for my most recent travel assignment. I needed two microphones that I didn't care about possibly destroying on my trip to Haiti. These were perfect. They served two purposes and the audio quality isn't bad at all.
I would give it five stars...the only thing I wish was different is the wiring. I wish that where the wire meets the XLR connecter there was a more reinforcement. My first impression was that it felt a little bit cheap. No problems so far though and I put them through a good beating.
