Motorola T9680RSAME Rechargeable Talkabout Emergency 2-Way Weather Radios are the perfect companion for that field trip, canoe trip or long bike ride with a friend or family.
With an extended communication range, these radios can save your life when you are out in the "boonies" or even if you are simply out for a Sunday stroll and need to check on the weather. Using Specific Area Message Encoding (SAME), you can eliminate useless, non-localized weather broadcasts and, instead, receive only those forecasts that pertain to your area. In addition, depending upon the type of weather situation, the SAME radio displays a specific 3-letter code - and you will get a vocal alert when a specific weather bulletin is issued.
Even if you are sitting home and doing nothing but reading a book, wouldn't it be nice to know when a hurricane, flood or other nature disaster warning is being issued? You have 7 NOAA channels (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) to choose from for both local and regional information.
For safety sake, your T9680RSAME is also a two-way communicator which will let you keep tabs on the young ones. Even if your family is in two separate cars, you'll be able to communicate freely.
And no need to worry about power. If you NiMH battery fails, simply add three "AA" batteries and you're up and running again with about 30 hours of talk time.
Note! Actual communication distance depends on visual obstructions, atmospheric conditions and other factors which may contaminate. Your radio may not operate up to specified specifications due to many elements.

Comments about Motorola T9680RSAME Rechargeable Talkabout Emergency 2-Way Weather Radios:
These radios work as advertised. Obviously the advertised range is completely misleading, like all other such radios. I get about 3 miles range in moderately hilly, mostly rural area.
Haven't had them long enough to comment on battery life.

Comments about Motorola T9680RSAME Rechargeable Talkabout Emergency 2-Way Weather Radios:
This 2-Way is a good buy at B&H [...]. The radios work fine as advertised. I haven't tried it for long distances yet but I've been told not to expect a lot for range. The weather reports are great.

Comments about Motorola T9680RSAME Rechargeable Talkabout Emergency 2-Way Weather Radios:
I bought two pair of these radios to use as coms for the film crew on a documentary that we recently filmed for Nat Geo and they worked perfectly. Obviously you aren't going to get the 25+ mile range - but they do work well up to around 300-500 metres. We used them mainly for coms between vehicles, but they were also used in the jungle and we never had any problems.
