I purchased this to use as by carry on for a two week trip to China and it performed well. For the trip I had it packed with:

    Camera Compartment
    - Cannon 30d with a Cannon 28 - 300mm lens
    - Spare lenses
    - Cannon 28 - 70mm
    - Cannon 18-55 lens (basic kit lens)
    - Cannon 580ex speedlight
    - CF card reader
    - Battery charger
    - Cleaning kit
    - Power converter for the flight
    - Handheld GPS

    Laptop Compartment:
    - HP Laptop with 14" monitor
    - Power cord

    Storage compartment
    - DVD Player
    - DVD Wallet
    - Bose headsets
    - paperback book
    - Plastic bag for my liquids/gels

    Side Pocket:
    - Power cord for dvd player
    - Pens
    - plug adapters

    Back Pocket
    - Phrase book
    - Map
    - Boarding pass

As you can imagine it got heavy but it balanced the load well. It was easier to deal with when I stashed the non-essentials (laptop, flash, etc) in my hotel safe. It would have been nice to have the litle chest strap but it sill worked out ok.

In general the side flap was great, it made it very easy to get my camera in and out very quickly and I didn't have to give up the extra storage space. I had no problem even with the huge 29-300mm lens. The only drawback was that the zippers get very difficult to open and close if they get cold. It was about -5 (c) in Beijing and it took quite a bit of effort to open the side flap. The problem was the rubber they had embedded into the zipper (I assume it is to help keep out raid)

The only other thing I didn't like about it was the only option it had for carrying a mono pod. I was able to strap it to the bottom in a horizontal position. This was fine when I was walking around in wide open spaces but I ran into problems on the crowded subways. Probably won't be a problem for most people.

The side (quick access) to the camera is what sold me on this product. The side access is works great if you don't have a full size or a DSLR with a battery grip. Although it technically does fit my Canon 50D w/ battery grip, there is no use for side access due to the opening being too small. You have to be really careful taking it out from the side because the camera's hot shoe can rip the backpack's interior because of the tight opening. Aside from that, the backpack has good and strong construction. Although the overall backpack seams too big for me, it does fit really comfortable on the back and the shoulder. I'll be returning this within the next few days. I'll still give it a 2 star because of the excellent quality, but Tamrac shouldn't advertised the side access to work with full size DSLR or DSLR with battery grip (per Tamrac's website).

Comments about 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):

      Comfortable on your back.
Fast access to equipment. Love the side camera pocket.
Doesn't look like a photo equipment backpack, good disguise.
Your laptop travels safely and cushioned.
      Good construction materials.

Except for the zippers, the ones from the laptop compartment where the first ones to fall apart, and now the ones from the front camera compartment.
I Had to replace them, but when they broke it was a big issue with expensive equipment on the run allmost falling from the bag.

They should fix this cause the rest is optimum.

I was going to buy a Lowepro, but the boy from the bags sector recommended me this one. I took the advice and was happy in the beginning.

I still use it after I paid for the zippers change, but the moment I was traveling with the bag broke opened without noticing could have been a big problem. Someone pointed me this out thankfully.

Comments about 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Black):

I have used this quite a bit for about 8 months and I think this is a great backpack for toting gear around for 1/2 -3/4 day jaunts. I carry one body(5dii), a 16-35L a 70-200IS 2.8L and maybe one other prime and/or a speedlight, which is plenty for my needs. If you need to carry more, you can if you use the top compartment but i would suggest a bigger backpack then. There are decent moveable dividers and pockets to store cards or batteries, etc. There is a good amount of space in the top for wallet, phone, keys, and a snack with my bose headphones. I like the external water bottle pouch and side entry. I have used it on a few trips as a carry-on, on a few hikes, and shot a few events (kids sports, etc) and overall I am pleased with it. I do see how carrying it around all day, fully loaded would be aided by a chest and/or belt strap - again if you need that then go to a bigger pack. I have found that zippers can be annoying when closing as they do catch the protecting flaps- but it doesn't happen with side zipper. If you draw the zippers slower you will avoid this issue; the bright side is that with [$]of equipment inside, at least I know they won't open on their own. Side flap is good access but tght when the grip is attached. I do find myself using both access points to get to my gear, change lenses, etc. This is perfect for my day or carryon needs as a serious amatuer who often travels with a lightened load of camera gear.

Comments about 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):

I have used the backpack on several plane trips. It fits in overhead compartments even on small planes. The lower compartment of the pack is designed for camera and accessories. While lenses fit snugly, the camera (D7000) doesn't, so I stuff some clothes around it, not only to keep it from moving around but also to protect the camera's back from other passengers' luggage which often gets jammed in the overhead compartment. The upper compartment is designed primarily for personal items. It has a flat bottom and a rounded top, so I find it helpful to use a 7x10 mesh bag to hold smaller items. The bag is well constructed. Stands up when placed on the ground. Separate laptop compartment is nice for easy access.

I'm an enthusiast who travels a lot. Needed a home for my Cannon Rebel and 70-200 mm when not in use. As far as a place to keep my gear it was OK but 3 days into a Safari in Tanzania the zipper for the laptop compartment let go. Not a good feeling to have your laptop exposed on your back because the zipper on your new bag won't work. Now I have to try to get it back Stateside where I bought it and try to get the warranty work done. Jury is still out on this one.

Comments about 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):

Fits my 7D with a 70-200L lens perfectly, however there is no place to put the lens hood that doesn't risk breaking it. The top pouch for "personal" items like a "lunch" has no reinforcement, so an impact there would break the plastic hood. Inside the main gear compartment there just isn't room for the lens hood, even if you leave out a spare lens or flash.

I do find it fits my 7D with a mounted 70-200L with tripod ring mount attached, two additional lenses, two flashes, and various cards and filters. The side-pocket for accessing the camera gives perfect access for a DSLR this size, but like others have noted a bigger body or battery grip might present a problem.

The main gear compartment is stiff and padded with velcro sided pockets and movable dividers, so if you're like me and have velcro dots on the sides of your flashes, you can stick two in there without fear of them rattling against each other.

I'm not much of a backpacker, so I don't have a history with how one should fit but for me it seems very comfortable.

I look forward to taking this thing with me everywhere. Still using my Pelican case for storage or any situation where my gear might take a beating in transport.

Comments about 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Rust):

The bag was exactly as advertised.
I enjoy taking action shots, of my sons travel soccer team, and always had to carry my gear around in multiple, smaller bags, that can be difficult to get things into and out of. The backpack offers easier access to my items, especially the camera body. It also offers the compartment, for my laptop, so I can edit and post my photos, from the hotel each evening.

My only "complaint" is that there is not really room to stow my second camera body, with a lens attached.

Yes this is a big packpack, but that was what I was looking for. I was looking for a backpack that would allow me to carry my Canon Rebel with my Canon 400mm 5.6 with lens attached and easy access. Its a little tight, but works great none the less. The day after I got it, I took it out on a four hour backpack trip into the badlands. Carried the long lens attached plus 70-300, and 17-50 along with extra windbreaker, gloves, snacks, etc. All fit well. I would have given this product a five star, if it would have had a sternum strap. I wound up making my own for it with no problem. This pack carried well in rough terrain. It was great to be able to take all the equipment I needed along.

Fits all my gear and has plenty of room up top for extras. I use the laptop compartment for my collapsible reflectors. Just fits under the airline size limits for carry-on luggage, which is a plus.

I use this when i travel for my 17" MacbookPro and a Nikon D200. it works great, is very protective of the gear and is comfortable to wear. This pack gets HEAVY when fully loaded, but it does cary everything all in one place. My only complaint is that while the pack is big enough to hold my Nikor 70-200 it will only do so with the lens attached to the camera. This means that every time i put the camera back in the bag i must attach it to the large lens, and put the smaller lenses in their respective holders. This becomes very inconvenient whn i'm using a smaller lens and just want to put my camera away temporarily without switching the lens.

Overall this is an excellent pack for travelling with your photo gear. I'm an amateur and only have 2 lens' for my Nikon 3100 but this pack was great for recent international travel. It fit under the airplane seats, holds extra's in the top compartment and fit my laptop well. I only have 2 small issues with the pack, there is no waist clip to ease the weight off the shoulder and the pack is on the slightly heavy side and needs some dryfit material on the inside so it is does not get so hot carrying the pack for excessive amount of time. I'm very pleased with the purchase!

Comments about 3385 Aero Speed Pack 85 Dual Access Photo Backpack (Black):

I like the sturdiness of the pack and how well it rests on my back. I don't feel any pressure on the shoulders and the weight is distributed evenly on my back. It is too heavy however, and the top compartment is a bit small. Access to camera equipment is excellent.
