The 4x Blu-ray Drive from Delkin Devices is an external Blu-ray disc burner that can also burn and read DVD and CD discs. It connects to your computer via the USB 2.0 interface. The drive allows you to write data to single-layer Blu-ray discs, which can hold up to 25GB of data; more than five times that of a standard DVD-R. These high-capacity discs are ideal for archiving of data, backup, and HD video delivery.
- Professional HD Video Recording
- The drive has been designed to facilitate professional HD video recording. A 25GB Blu-ray disc can store approximately two hours of HD video, making it an ideal solution for video archiving or as a delivery mechanism to transfer a project to a mastering facility. Video can be compressed using MPEG-2, AVC, or VC-1 codecs, allowing you to share HD video with your customers in stunning quality.
- Multimedia Features
- Blu-ray delivers up to 8 channels of audio at 192kHz/32 streams quality. This gives you high-quality audio to match the video quality that Blu-ray can deliver.
- Data Archiving and Backup
- Blu-ray allows you to archive large amounts of data at an attractive cost per GB rate. Making backups of your computer on Blu-ray is also time-saving as compared to DVD; you won't be constantly swapping out discs to create backups of your system. The discs feature a scratch-resistant coating on the surface to help protect data integrity for years to come.
- Backwards Compatibility
- The drive not only reads and writes single-layer Blu-ray media, but it is also fully compatible with DVD and CD media. The drive reads and writes CD-R/RW discs and single-layer and dual-layer DVD±R/RW discs as well.
- Software Bundle
- The Nero 8 Essential Suite 3 software is included with the drive. The software allows you to burn Blu-ray, DVD, and CD discs.

I needed an external Blu-ray drive to back-up large amounts of photos. I have been using Delkin's Archival Gold DVD-Rs for years and decided it was time to upgrade to Blu-ray.
I am a Mac user and would like FireWire. But the USB 2.0 is fast enough. It works great with the standard OS to burn files. I can't wait til the Apple programs support Blu-ray for burning my home movies.
Make sure to get high-quality Blu-ray discs like Delkin's archival grade discs. It is worth the extra few dollars.
