The EAADPT-KIT from Shure is a headphone adapter kit that provides you with flexible connection options for almost any pair of headphones. The airplane adapter allows you to convert a standard 3.5mm mini plug into a dual-prong plug for use with in-flight entertainment systems. The 1/4" adapter allows you to connect a 3.5mm plug to pro-level audio gear.
The in-line volume control has a 3.5mm jack for plugging in your headphones, and a 3.5mm plug for connecting to an MP3 player, CD player, or other electronic device. It then allows you to make on-the-fly volume adjustments without having to take your player out of your pocket or bag.

Comments about Shure EAADPT-KIT Headphone Adapter and Volume Control Kit:
This is my second one. The first one lasted a couple of years, until it developed an intermittent connection at the plug, as these things all do sooner or later.
My ipod is permanently set to full volume, so I bought this to control the volume to my ear buds. It's excellent: no noise when moving the volume control, and even (linear) control when turning the level up & down.
Con: It comes bundled with two adapters - mini to full-size phone plug, and mini to the old airline two-mono-plug connector. Now I have two of each that I don't need.

Comments about Shure EAADPT-KIT Headphone Adapter and Volume Control Kit:
I use this volume control with my iPod while exercising. Much more precise control over volume than the iPod. This was purchased as a back up and my original is still working although the coating on the wiring does break down where it connects to the control. I created a strain relief with clear silicone to protect it.

Though advertised as only for Airline audio application, with the iPhone 3/4 and iPods.
