Comments about Smith-Victor QRPBH5 Quick Release Plate for BH5:
This is a low cost way to get an Arca compatible camera plate if you need to create a custom fit by grinding or drilling to create an anti-rotation peg system or other specific accommodation.
There are much more expensive examples of this kind of plate that have more
sophisticated machining and finish but for general use this one does
the job nicely.

Comments about Smith-Victor QRPBH5 Quick Release Plate for BH5:
Some of you might be wondering if this product works with other brands of ballheads, such as the older Benro or Induro ones. I am here to tell you it does. If your ball head has the style where it slides in from the side, and there is one bolt or knob that prevents it from sliding off, then you have a winner. The only downside to this plate is the lack of a handle on the screw, meaning you have to use a screwdriver or a quarter/nickel to tighten it.

Comments about Smith-Victor QRPBH5 Quick Release Plate for BH5:
I recently purchased this QR plate as an extra to go with my BH5 ball head that i purchased at the same time. This product is one of those pleasant surprises in that it is a great product that is also affordable. It is well made and nicely finished with two grippy rubber strips on top of the plate. The mounting screw has good thread engagement with the camera mounting socket and the screw itself has a nice slot so you can use a penny, nickel,or dime to tighten it up. In all,a great product.

Solid plate at a great price.
I got it as a spare for my new travel tripod and like it better than the one that came with the tripod itself.

Comments about Smith-Victor QRPBH5 Quick Release Plate for BH5:
It is about 20% of the cost of an Arca Swiss plate or less. It fits well into the Arca Ball head. The nut screws down the camera, or lense in my case, snugly. I will definitely buy more with time.

Comments about Smith-Victor QRPBH5 Quick Release Plate for BH5:
Because I have a variety of camera makes and models, universal A-S style quick release plates make sense for me. The universal plate by Smith-Victor easily attaches to all of my cameras and lens collars. The plate can be secured by both Arca-Swiss Monoball Z1 Quick Release ball head clamp and by the RRS BH-55LR ball head clamp. The narrowest part of the dove tail on my copy measures 1.290" on my caliper, and the widest part measures 1.538". It is nicely finished.

Comments about Smith-Victor QRPBH5 Quick Release Plate for BH5:
Well obviously I use it to put my camera on my tripod, because thats its only purpose. So it fits perfectly onto my tripod, which is a plus. I bought this as a second one, because there were too many times where I was using two bodies or had a lens that needed one but would switch the lens and would have to put the one from the lens onto the camera and then vice versa. This way I have more freedom to do what I want without the hassle. In the dark its a little hard to slide on the quick release, also with heavy lenses.

Bought the extra plate because I tend to lose them or leave them on various lenses or camera bodies..

Comments about Smith-Victor QRPBH5 Quick Release Plate for BH5:
The ballhead already comes with one of these but having an extra will someday come in handy. And, at that price, it certainly won't break the piggy bank.
I gotta be ready for what comes along unexpectedly. Either, I am going to accidentally lose the original, or I can attach it to my camcorder or a second camera. Thus, avoiding spending time removing the original off the first camera.
The plate is made of metal and the rubber pads are effective in holding my 40D with Sigma 50-150 in portrait mode without slippage. The 1/4 inch screw requires as little as the edge of a coin or house keys to screw it into place. How much simple can it be?
Thanks B&H for providing this item.

Comments about Smith-Victor QRPBH5 Quick Release Plate for BH5:
I bought an extra quick release plate for my other lens. I don't find the quick release action to be cumbersome as some other reviewers of BH5 ball head have suggested. This plate has a thin profile and is of very sturdy built, the screw that goes on the camera is also sturdy but I need to carry a coin or use my car keys to tighten it as it just has a minus notch on it for the purpose. The plate has two strips of rubber mats embedded on its top surface to maintain friction so that the camera stays put in place. While the strips do their job, they are not glued properly. One of them came off right out of the box even before I put my camera on it for the first time. Easily fixable with a little bit of glue, but shoddy workmanship?

I use the BH8 tripod, ballhead and plates for a Pentax 6x7 medium format camera. This setup has a loud mirror and the heavy duty tripod and ballhead and plate eliminate noise. This setup is also used for my Canon 40D with the 100-400mm L lens which is also quite heavy.

I bought 2 extra plates one for another camera and one for a long lense. The plates work on the ball head and hold well but are not the same size as the plates that come with the ball head.

Comments about Smith-Victor QRPBH5 Quick Release Plate for BH5:
I purchased this plate when I also purchased an Acratech QR clamp. I bought a dedicated Arca-Swiss plate for my Mamiya 645, but didn't want to pay $40 for a plain, flat plate for my Canon, as I'm just waiting until I have enough cash for an L-plate for it. So, I figured, I might as well take a chance on the Smith Victor plate. Worst case scenario, it isn't great but even then I'm only out [$]. I was extremely pleasantly surprised when I showed up. Seems just as nice as other, more expensive basic plates I've handled. The dovetail is of precisely the same dimensions and angle as the Arca-Swiss plate I bought and it mates with the Acratech plate perfectly. I'll probably replace the screw at some point with something I can use a hex wrench for, but overall I'm really quite impressed. If I ever need another simple, flat plate I'm going straight back to one of these, as without being dedicated to a camera the performance isn't going to get any better even if you pay 4x as much. All that and it's only [$]. Highly recommended.
