The Tiffen 58mm Linear Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.
A linear polarizer only differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not contain a quarter wave plane that enables use of auto focus and exposure features. Linear polarizers are best suited for use with manual cameras, such as view cameras, that are not dependent on internal mechanisms to determine focus or metering settings.
Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

I bought this polarizing filter to go on the new Canon T1i camera I bought recently from B&H. I shopped all over for this particular camera and B&H [...] had the lowest price! Love my camera. The colors for my sunny daytime shots were a bit washed out and I realized that I needed this polarizing filter. It arrived in just a couple of days. I can see a great difference in the before and after shots. The polarizer really helps to deepen the colors and remove unwanted reflections. This is one of the least expensive items you can buy that will give you very visible results in your photos along with protecting your lens. I'm very pleased with it.

Light bluing effect... expected more.
All the photos show the same picture. There was no indication of how strong the polarizing effect is.

Comments about Tiffen 58mm Linear Polarizer Filter:
I've not used a more expensive filter, but on my T2i with a kit lens this one seems to work just fine. It makes my skies bluer and knocks out reflections on car windshields. If you don't have a polarizer in your filter set, you should get one. It's a pretty standard accessory and it will make your images look better when used correctly.

Comments about Tiffen 58mm Linear Polarizer Filter:
I am using this filter in Yellowstone. This is great for getting awesome wide angle scenery shots with a nice deep blue sky, with-out having to clamp down too much on the aperture.
This also works very well with rainbow shots. The only complaint I would have is that when you screw on the filter its very, very, very difficult to remove. Another thing is that people may be tempted to store lenses with the filter still attached and the lens cap does not stay very securely attached. (with the filter mounted) Also while rotating the filter I have to put the camera into auto-focus (as to lock down my focus) other-wise the rotation messes with my selected focus.

It's a good quality product, i tried other similar filters with deception, this Tiffen filter fulfilled my expectatives because really works and doesn't affect image details. It worth the cost.

I use this lens to take portraits mostly. i love the way it fades the background as you change the apture and the sharpness that it gives on your subject. One thing thats not so great which I am just realizing is that "fixed" lenses like this one has a small area of viewing unless you back up REALLY far. (I'm a novice)

Comments about Tiffen 58mm Linear Polarizer Filter:
Great filter for outdoor shots. Excellent value fot the money but not as dramatic a difference under certain conditions. This type of filter is a little frustrating when used with a lens like mine that changes focus while rotating the filter, almost need a third hand (not too bad with A/F on). Better with more expensive lenses.

i use this for a lot of my pics because i take most of them outside and i can tell the difference between the picture Before and after
the only bad thing about it is the spaces for spining and screwing on are really small so it can be hard to take off or put on other than that i love it.
