Tiffen 62mm Linear Polarizer Filter

You Pay: $28.80
Product Highlights
  • Helps to Eliminate Reflections and Glare
  • Reduces Haze and Blue Cast in Landscapes
  • Greater Color and Tonal Saturation
  • ColorCore Technology

The Tiffen 62mm Linear Polarizer Filter helps to reduce reflections and glare by filtering out light that has become polarized due to reflection from a non-metallic surface. The light from the sun naturally becomes partially polarized due to reflecting off electrons in air molecules, causing the light to scatter into what appears as haze. A polarizing filter arranges, and filters, this directionally polarized light perpendicularly to the reflected light, allowing for the absorption of much of this light. This results in a noticeable reduction of glare and reflections from non-metallic surfaces and an increase in the saturation of skies and foliage.

A linear polarizer only differs from a circular polarizer in that it does not contain a quarter wave plane that enables use of auto focus and exposure features. Linear polarizers are best suited for use with manual cameras, such as view cameras, that are not dependent on internal mechanisms to determine focus or metering settings.

Tiffen filters are made using ColorCore technology, a process that involves laminating the filter substrate between 2 pieces of optical glass, grinding flat to a tolerance of 10,000th of an inch, and then mounting to precision metal rings.

makes a big differance on skys, clouds, and greens in grass and leaves. the polorized glass spins independantly so you can turn it to vary the effect.

Comments about Tiffen 62mm Linear Polarizer Filter:

I use it on a sigma 18-200 lens on the nikon d5000. I am highly impressed by the quality of pictures I get even when the shooting into the sun or when there is a strong reflection off of water, etc.
Gives the protection of a uv filter with the added bonus of polarizing.
I leave it on for protection and the general picture quality is great.

Comments about Tiffen 62mm Linear Polarizer Filter:

It has a nice general range of uses. I seem to most often use it to correct reflections in glass/shiny stuff.
It is simple to use and affordable.
I don't like that it is hard to keep it in place once you turn the filter. I almost have to hold it in place to keep it where I want it.
