When I opened the box I was surprised at how heavy the light felt. You know how when you look at something based on it's size you think you know how heavy it will be? Well it's heavier than that. Which translates into rugged. I think this light could take a few good falls and be none the worse for wear. The controls are easy to understand and work very well. I turned it on right out of the box without even charging it and it ran for a few hours. Charging is simple with the included charger, and the indicator lights are a nice feature. It has three different LED lights to tell you about how much battery life is left. Nice feature so you don't wait for that perfect moment only to find out your light is dead. This light is much brighter than I expected too. I've had it for about a month now and there aren't very many situations where I've used the light on it's full power. The size is great too because it fits in my camera case. I don't have to lug another bag or case with me.
The only negative I can think of and the only reason I didn't give it five stars is because of the filters. They pop on the front but it takes a little wrestling to get them on. The little grooves that are in the plastic don't exaclty line up with the edge of the light housing so the fit isn't perfect. It's almost like the filters are a tiny bit too small. I guess that's better than too big. The filters come with these lanyards you can clip them to but I haven't used them. They're there if you want them though.
Over all I would reccomend this light to anyone needing a small light. I bought the B&H kit that comes with a shoe mount and it works great for on camera lighting. The angle and direction are all easily adjustable. You can even point the light almost straight up to bounce light off of the ceiling. It also comes with a small cold shoe that's threaded on the bottom. I attached this to an old smith victor mount so now I can attach the light and the adjustable mount to a light stand. This is how I use this light mostly. I put a small light stand in my tripod bag and then I'm not locked to having the light on my camera. I have many more options for light placement this way.
I don't think you can go wrong for what you get for the price.

Unfortunately I thought I had found a small robust, lighweight, led obie light without the green spike, low cri and PWM of other cheaper, inferior LED lights. This one is no exception. Has terrible banding issues that cannot be resolve by syncing one's shutter to 60/50hz or any harmonics to those frequencies. This light while well built is totally unacceptable in terms of light quality and electronics engineering. If you're still unsure please lookup on youtube and you will see a demonstration video of the Switronix TL-50 banding issue. I found it most prominent with CMOS based video cameras and have witnessed this problem while the light was on full output using my AF100. Great build design but cheap and garabage electronics and low cri LEDs ruin this light. If you value quality then look at litepanels and the lowel blender units - far better cri and no banding issues.

Comments about Switronix Dimmable 5600K LED Light Fixture - 50 Watts:
I love the size and the fact that I don't need a battery pack. This little light works nicely for fill for portraits. For a backlit subject, it's not very strong, so it's not a perfect fit for that situation. But to create a little fill or ambient light off camera for portrait work, it fits the bill. Wish it were a little stronger...you need to be fairly close to your subject. For the price, it's a great little light.

Comments about Switronix Dimmable 5600K LED Light Fixture - 50 Watts:
This seemed to be the same light that Doug Gordon is selling for a lot more $$$. I used it a couple of weeks ago at my meetup and was advised that it was banding for video. My assistant did some digging and apparantly it is a well know issue with the lights on the forums. The company says they are aware of the problem. I'm confused, isn't this a video light? The other problem is the caps do not... and I mean do not fit on easily. It takes attempt after attempt to fit them on. Very frustrating with a client watching. I also don't see the need for 3 separate strings to attach the caps, I put all three caps on one string. Would I recommend... NO

This is a great light weight and portable low light device. When your in situations where you can't bring heavier gear to light up a situation these babies can really help! There not the strongest of units, but you can illuminate a face with them really well to make a dramatic beautiful image.

I never write reviews...well, I had to this time. I bought this little light bc Doug Gordon highly recommends it. The yellow filter which I wanted to use in indoor/tungsten situations creates a terrible green/yellow color cast that is impossible to correct. After using it for a few weeks I also started noticing parallel dark lines extending across the entire frame. Contacted manufacturer - no response. Don't buy it! There are cheaper much better LEDs out there!

This is a great portable DIMABLE LED light! Got it after watching Doug Gordon use it in a seminar. Got it here at B&H at a lower price. It works great and its light and with an standard umbrella bracket and a stud, you can put the light easily on a tripod and swivel and tilt it as needed. It comes with an orange filter disk. Wish it came with a green filter disk for use with floresent light balancing.
