The Pearstone LMT100 cable simply enables a microphone or mic-level device to be input into the 3.5mm mini input found on consumer recording devices. It is 1.5' long and has a 3-pin XLR female connector on one end and a standard 3.5mm mini plug on the other. It is designed for use with mono microphones.

I bought this item for use with a Sennheiser ME-66 short Mic, and a Sony PCM-D50, so I am not a professional by any stretch of the imagination, however I am into field recording and I do care about the quality of sound I can get within the constraints of my small budget. For me this has been a process of elimination, buying gear and realizing that its not going to make the grade and selling it or exchanging it along the way. This cable was one of those purchases as I needed a simple cable to go from the Mic to the recorder or an XLR to mini-jack, and and BH search came up with a few products and this was for about twenty bucks. It does exactly what I was looking for, and more then I was expecting as I had initially purchased it with an eye to finding out more about what it was I needed to get a mono mic to relay through both headphone channels for monitoring purposes, anyway this thing does that, and it cost me a whopping break-the-bank [...]

Used it once so far and the XLR connection came loose a couple of times, which was not great...
Could be a fault at the mic end, but have not experienced this problem before.
Willing to give it anther shot.

Well, I think it's kind of an "of course" that the product does what it needs to do, because now my movies have sound (and GREAT sound, I got the Sennheiser MKE 600) but the great thing about going to B&H is that they knew exactly what I needed and didn't let me walk out of there with something that would have physically connected properly but not done the job I need it to.
So, another A+ for B&H for giving me the correct product, for caring enough that I get the right product, and for having it in stock for not a ton of money...

Small enough to carry in my Pelican Box, with other essential gear. I got stuck using someone else's mic and it wouldn't work. That will not happen again. Things happen. If the mic you normally use breaks, this could save your audio.

I was shooting video using a 7D and a shotgun mic pluged into a Tascam, that only has a mini-phono input. This was OK in most situations, but a disaster when shooting near lights with a low votage transformer; so for that and other obvious reasons i upgraded to a When I upgraded To an Audio Technica AT897 mic I figured I would need to dump my Tascam for one that had an XLR input; but a call to B&H support suggested that I buy this Pearstone to bridge the gap between the XLR cable and the last 3 feet to the recorder. I must say it worked out great.

So far so good. I like it. I am using it with my XLR Mic set up rig. On the 5d mark 2. And I love it. And I just need one just in case any ways. working on making my own audio cable collection. I am a freshman in college who loves audio work.

This cable came as part of a kit with my Sennheisser MKE-600. I got the kit with this cable so that I could use the mic with my Sony PCM-M10. The one that came with it did not even click together with the mic, and slipped loose on it's own. I called and they sent me a replacement. This one clicks, but it doesn't not fit snuggly and there is lots of space between the the connection. It does not match the quality of the Sennheisser mic, and they should not include that brand of cable as part of the kit.

Bought this along with a NTG-2 and it works great.
Good build quality (surprisingly, it's pretty cheap), locks great and won't come off by accident.
The only problem with this problem is not the problem itself, it's great, but using it straight from the mic to the camera is NOT an optimal solution. Your in-camera preamp produces a lot of noise, even though you have manual gain control such as I have on my 5D m3. It helps, but not a lot.
I would reccoment buying something like a juicedlink rm202 or similar, then run XLR to XLR on the juicedlink and then 3.5mm to 3.5mm into your camera, that will produce the cleanest audio.
That said, this is a great product, thus the five stars.

This cable has acceptable sound and good build, however for the same price the SENNHEISER KA 600
has better sound connecting a XLR mic to a video camera or DSLR 1/8 plug, and is much smaller and lighter.

After searching high and wide, I finally found this transformer. It provides a mono signal on both the left/right rings on the jack, which means that it works with all types of recorders, including the 5D itself. I have used it with a Zoom H2 also. Great results. A Rode NTG 2 provides plenty of signal going through this device. I highly recommend it.
