The Quantum Qflash Trio QF8N TTL Shoe Mount Flash combines several of Quantum's venerable Qflash system technologies into one complete dedicated shoe mount flash. Based on the popular Qflash, the Trio QF8 also includes a built-in FreeXwire TTL radio, for wireless TTL control, and is fully dedicated to the Nikon i-TTL flash system.
The Qflash uses parabolic reflectors for clean, even light spread, and the reflectors are removable for bare-bulb lighting. The flash can be used either on-camera on its own, on-camera as a master to other off-camera units, or off-camera with the use of a Pilot or FreeXWire module. The Ratio Control is highly adjustable between all the models in the set-up.
A multitude of advanced features and modes are available, and many are user selectable. It features virtually all modes available from the camera manufacturer's own flagship units. However, the QF8 can be powered by any of the Quantum's line of heavy-duty Turbo-series batteries, which allows for almost unlimited rapid-fire, full power flashes.

Easy setup for D3, D90, D3X, D2X and Trio recognized each other immediately. Display is clear and easy to read. First Quantum product I have ever owned and got it operational and taking great pictures without reading the manual in just a couple of minutes. Diffuser on the reflector gave even light distribution and allowed me to get very close to the subject with no blown highlights and great exposures. Colors seem to pop off the screen. Much more consistant TTL than Nikon SB800 or SB900. Those will now stay home when I am on assignment. Expensive, but worth every penny. I also bought a Quantum T5D-R and an FW7Q and again without reading the instructions got the two of them to do i-TTL exposures as well as manual and automatic. They recognized each other and work together to give great images. Turbo SC battery clips on belt and the Trio is lighter on the D3X than the SB800 or SB900.

I'm very disappointed with this flash. The T5D-R is a far better unit with more power. I opted for the TRIO be because of the built-in wireless, only to learn that my Nikon flash is incompatible, which renders the wireless totally useless. That means I spent more money for a lower-powered unit for no reason.

Being so un happy with my Nikon flashes, with the over heating issues for long event shoots I do, I got the Quantum Qflash Trio and the Blade battery charger. The best decision I've made and I only wish I had done it a lot sooner. The flash has a fast recycle time, light weight, does not have hot spot issues, just really happy with it !

Professional photography wedding, portrait.
Seems to blow out image on the edges. I purchased it because the Nikon SB900 overheated, love the SB900 it has perfect TTL exposure, but the overheating was difficult. Qflash does not overheat but I lost my perfect exposure.

I've just purchased the Trio. I've only been practicing with it so far. Still trying to find out the best use for it. It is already way better than my "SB600." I'm excited

After using Nikon SB-900's for a long time and getting frustrated with them overheating, I decided to go with the QFlash Trio - best decision I ever made.
It just keeps going and going... connect it to a
Turbo 3 pack and you'll be shooting all day events like a champ with no concern that your flash will over heat at the crucial moment.
I was concerned about carying the battery pack connected to the flash, but after using it for about 15 minutes had forgotten about the pack and kept working with no limitations and superb performance.
If you are on the fence about this - JUST DO IT! -
You get what you pay for and then some.
Well done Quantum

The Trio along with a Turbo 3 Battery are in a different class than SB-600, 700, 800, 900 or comparable Canon lights. In fact, you will quickly lose interest in those after spending just a few hours with a Trio/Turbo rig.
If you are willing to work with wireless and TTL adapters you can go with the T5D-R and get almost twice the wattage. I prefer to use the Trio for small needs though and break out my Quadra or Ranger RX for multi flash needs. To me, those are just as easy to use in a multi environment as a multi Quantum setup.
The Trio is rapid fire, never overheats, consistent, and very good light quality for a shoe mount device. As I said, there just is no comparison to any of the Nikon or Canon speedlites. This is some of the best money I have spent on camera gear in several years.

For weddings and fashion, i was using the Nikon SB-900 but it would trip out on thermal. With the Qflash Trio and the Turbo 3 battery i can shoot at least two weddings with the unit on full power. It does not overheat when doing rapid sequence shooting. The light quality, with the UV coated flash tube and the wide diffuser,QF67A, is soft with consistent color.

I have to check the heat meter all the time on my SB-900, the noise is embarrassing, so I am always flipping out my flash at a wedding, I hate to miss a shot because it! But my trio w/ my turbo3 last me 2 wedding with no problems. I am getting one more!

I Love it!! My SB-900 would over heat all the time, I ended up having two flashes on my belt at weddings so that i could change out, it was awful!! this flash doesn't overheat and gives a consistent quality. It is wonderful for long days and is much lighter then i expected.

We have two of these Trios and use them daily in our Wedding business. We're on the beach almost every day shooting in bright sunlight with heavy shadows and in shady forests and the trios just keep going and going unlike other flashes that need to recharge and cool down.
The bare bulb look is much cleaner and prettier than the flash look.
The only down side is the higher cost, but it's much worth it in the end if only for the cost saving of no AA batteries to buy.

I have owned speed lights for years. However, I have always thought that they were underpowered. Double A batteries were always a bummer for me in the beginning. After jumping to Q Flashes and Turbos I have always had the power and just dealt with weight and the battery. With the Trio you get the power and portability of a speed light. I love the look and reliability. Coupled with the Blade power pack you can't go wrong. I know the price is a bit expensive but you need to set yourself apart from every other shooter out there. My clients pay to have professional pictures why come to the job with the same equipment as their uncle. Make this purchase and you won't be disappointed. Welcome to the big boys (and girls)club.!

Having survived numerous near-nervous-breakdowns at events when my SB900 shut itself off (even with an external power source), I bit the price bullet and bought the TRIO. Best move I ever made. If you're a pro and need to have full power, continuously (as in, as fast as the flash will recycle), for several hours with missing a shot, get a TRIO. It will never overheat, and the SB900 will -- with disappointing regularity, but only at the most critical points of your shoot.

After giving up on my big studio strobes for small location shoots, I was stuck with the flimsy and somehow unreliable Nikon flashes. Then I discovered the Qflash TRIO! Very powerful and reliable, even in full daytime outdoor use.
