This adapter works just fine with the 7D. When you slide it into the camera body and close the battery door, the wire is forced out a small rubber cut-out next to the battery door, which maintains a good seal and wrangles the cable well.

I use this for long video production shoots, and so far it has worked just as you would expect it to - it facilitates the powering of your camera from an AC outlet or a DC battery source on your camera rig, the latter of which I am using.

I purchased the DR-E6 so that I could plug in my 5D MkII using the old AC-E2 box that I owned for my old 5D Mk I. The adapter plug that goes from the battery pod to the "brick" part of the adapter (from the old 5D adapter) is not the same on the new plug. So now, not only am I out [$] for the plug I purchased, but I'll be out another $180 if I want to purchase the ACK-E6AC adapter that will actually work with the camera. I got screwed by Canon.

Comments about Canon DC Coupler DR-E6:

Except for price, this is a five-star unit. I had purchased an ACK-E6 AC adapter kit from an on-line source, which presented the kit as "new, in box, never used". However, the power cord was missing (not that much of a problem as I have a box full of miscellaneous power cords), but the cord that is intended to be bent sharply at the top of the battery-replacement module had tape on it, hinting at a possible problem. That rig served to get me through the writing on my EOS 5D Mk III book, but as I started the EOS 6D book, there was no power through the unit to the camera. I gambled that it was the battery-replacement module and ordered this as a replacement, which is now working beautifully.

Comments about Canon DC Coupler DR-E6:

I bought this not to use with the Canon power adapter but to plug directly into my V mount battery.

Unfortunately the plug on the end was too large for the battery so I hat to cut it off and solder it to a different plug.

Having done this, the cable now works perfectly and I am very happy with it.

I took off one star simply because Canon forces you to use this product with their own gear. A smaller plug would have allowed for an adapter to use with third party equipment.

I bought this "dumb" battery to cut the end off and attach a power-tap connector. Save yourself a fair amount of money over pre-made adapters and connect to a v-mount/AB battery/Switronix to power your 5D all day long.

Saved $80 by rewiring with my old AC adapter for the original 5d. I used my voltage meter to maintain polarity, and my camera (7d) has been running off of the ac adapter for three days in -40 below zero weather up in Barrow, AK.

Comments about Canon DC Coupler DR-E6:

The coupler was most useful when doing long exposures and time lapse photography. It allows the provision of an interrupted power supply for my camera when connected to a portable power battery source. Its use certainly makes astrophotography namely star trails photography easier especially when I need to do prolonged repeat shuttle release using a timer and not have to worry about the limited battery life of the camera that in the past resulted in the interruption and loss of the mutiple exposures required. I also spend less on having to buy replacement batteries.

Overall, I would recommend the coupler to any of my fellow photography enthusiast that require a more prolonged power supply for their camera.

Comments about Canon DC Coupler DR-E6:

I bought this DR-E6 DC power coupler for Canon 5D mark II, because regular battery for the camera discharges quickly especially when I control the camera from PC using remote control software. I decided not to buy the expensive ACK-E6 AC $130 charger (which DR-E6 is part of) because most of the time I need camera where there is no AC outlet, and it probably is a waste of money. Instead I am buying large capacity Li-Ion battery pack (i.e. 7.2V, sometimes referred as 7.4V, but has fully charged voltage ~8.2V max voltage - which I measured on fully charged Li-Ion Sony camcorder battery. I am planning to use my Sony camcorder NP-QM91 battery (4300 mAh), or perhaps I will buy a bare battery pack with capacity of 8800 mAH, and will power the camera from it using DR-E6. I also might use laptop rechargeable battery (Tekkeon MP3450).Connectors: The DR-E6 has hard to find DC connector. So I ordered from [@] conversion cable (part 80025), which might be right. complementary part is 80115. If that connector does not work, I ordered 3 pin mini XLR audio connectors, and will cut off the DR-E6 connector and re terminate cable with mini XLR connector. The mini-XLR adapter cable, will allow the connect to MP3450. Also there are panel mount mini XLR which I plan to install in aftermarket Sony camera 7.4V battery charger to recharge bare battery pack, or use as coupling to NP-QM91 (which would be locked into the charger).Anyway I did verify that NP-QM91 can power the Canon 5D mark II. The connectors are work in progress, and I might report on it another time.
