Product Highlights
  • Fits All DSLR Cameras Including Sony

The Dot Line Corp DL-SL DLC Sensor-Vu Loupe is used to spot tiny specs of dirt and grime on your DSLR's sensor. This loupe allows you to safely locate problem spots before using any kind of tool to remove them. The powerful 5x magnifier targets the dirt. Then, once you've located the trouble spot, you elevate the loupe to a wider 2x field which gives you a total view of the sensor. In this way, you see exactly what and where you're cleaning.

Comments about Dot Line DL-SL DLC Sensor-Vu Loupe (5x):

This device works as advertised, mostly. The underside LEDs do a great job of illuminating the sensor. It allows you to see the dust that exists on the sensor. But, honestly, if you're young and have good eyes, I wouldn't consider this item to be an essential piece of equipment.

The stand plugs into the camera's flash hot-shoe, but the stand itself is pretty flimsy and it doesn't really grip on the loupe with any confidence. (Personally, I wouldn't trust that thing to hold a $50 loupe above the mirror box of my $1500 camera.) In addition, when suspended above the camera, there's quite a bit of FOV/vignetting/magnification issues that makes it pretty distracting to use.

My biggest issue is that the loupe has a low build quality. My model arrived with quite a bit of dust between the elements. I could be totally wrong, but the lens elements appear to be made out of plastic, and they have quite a bit of scratches on them. These marks aren't enough to distract the user when the loupe is actually in use, but it kind of makes my wonder why I paid all this money for an inexpensive trinket.

Would I buy this again? That's a tough call, but probably not. Instead, I'd spend a few extra minutes to see if there's some other optical device that I could re-purpose for this task. I'm sure there's something else out there that would be just as effective, but would only cost $25.
