Comments about Quantum Instruments QF9C Qflash Pilot For Canon DSLRs/Film Cameras:

It's a professional unit. Not a "pop on" flash. There is a bit of a learning curve but the potential is pretty much unlimited. Great system.

Comments about Quantum Instruments QF9C Qflash Pilot For Canon DSLRs/Film Cameras:

I use this primarily in my studio. I can control two Qflash T5drs, adjust the flash compensation, or change to manual mode and adjust the power out from each flash. The mount to the Canon shoe mount leaves a lot to be desired, but it works (it tends to move around as I move the camera). This wireless controller is easy to use, easy to understand, and works great.

Comments about Quantum Instruments QF9C Qflash Pilot For Canon DSLRs/Film Cameras:

I would have given it 5 stars for how well it works (it really works great). The only thing I don't appreciate is how it mounts to the camera. It is a known issue with all Quantum shoe mount products (like this Pilot and the Trio), that it doesn't mount to the hot shoe as securely as other shoe-mount flashes. It is not a dealbreaker since the operation is rock solid. The combination of the Pilot, the TRIO and the FW8R FreeXwire receiver works great and fires much more consistently than with Pocket wizards and typical Canon speedlights.

The unit itslef is much more advanced than other "master" radios because of the build in LCD screen. You can easily dial in the settings for up to 3 groups and as many TRIO's (and FW8R's) as you want can be included in a group. Just set the group for the exposure type you want and fire. It is easy to change settings on the fly and experiment after each shot. Well done!

Comments about Quantum Instruments QF9C Qflash Pilot For Canon DSLRs/Film Cameras:

I upgraded to these after being disappointed with the Pocketwizard flex and mini flex transmitters. With them I got a reliable 20 ft while I routinely use the Pilot at distances up to 350 ft. I gave it only 4 stars because the menu system isn't as easy to use as Pocketwizard, but it doesn't take too long to catch on to it. This is built very well.

Comments about Quantum Instruments QF9C Qflash Pilot For Canon DSLRs/Film Cameras:

The product performs exactly as published but I've got to say that I feel like the Pilot is gonna fall off my hot-shoe all the time. The thumb wheel you use to "crank" down the Pilot on the shoe just feels like it was substituted from a Playskool Transformers toy and not a professional quality product. And given the price? C'Mon Quantum - give us a more rugged product.

The menu system is horrid - and given the lack of a real instruction manual, you'll find yourself on the phone with Quantum; promise.

And it's big - real big, and I don't get why. It seems the form factor could be smaller, but it is not.

Other than that? It just works, and I guess that's why we as professionals use it.

I am using a Quantum instruments flashes for over five years for Dance , Studio and Event Photography including destination weddings and Bar (Bat)-Mitzva.Quantum Pilot combined with Trio and 5D flashes are giving you a really Freedom to your Imagination by their outstanding combination of varieties of the modes: TTL, Auto, Auto Fill and finally Manual.I am able in a second to change the ratios and modes and to get the result with high consistency of the color and proper exposure.I have three 5DR's two Trios and one Pilot. The combination of Canon Mark IV and Quantum helped me to get outstanding images and to focus on the getting the Art pictures directly out of the camera with minimum efforts of using Photoshop, as we sell the photos on –spot where time is money. Our Click –to –Dollar ratio is 9 to 1 , meaning we do sell 9 of ten taken pictures .Thanks to Quantum for Easy to Use , reliable and finally quality product, with outstanding support that is available 24/7.Quantum was my best investment for last five years and the investment has changed the style and quality of our photography.Kind regards,Gregory YakhninGSR Studio Inc[@]
