I purchased this bag because I purchased a new camera - I already had a F-3X (which I love), but I needed something bigger.

I'm not a professional, and use my bags mostly when I travel. I always take my camera gear with me, and prefer a bag that can hold more than the camera equipment; specifically my iPad, toiletries, glasses, over the ear headphones, light snacks, and spare whatever. The F-3X did this with my 60d and a lens or two, but I was looking at more and bigger gear.

I ended up fitting into the F-2 the following (see picture). 6d with battery grip, 70-200 2.8 L, 24-105 4L, battery charger, AA battery tray, 580 EX flash, camera rain cover, squeeze bottle, memory cards, cut-proof camera strap, iPad, shaving kit, snacks and cough drops, bottle of water, eye glasses, sun glasses, over the ear headphones, tissues, pans, and a jacket.

Without travel gear, it easily holds the above camera equipment, plus a 60d, 17-40mmL, 50mm, cables, flash bracket, and hood.

For over 12 days in China, the bag worked fantastic - naturally I emptied out some items once we got into a hotel, but it proved it self a fantastic travel and shooting bag. I carried it over the shoulder, and on my back with the optional back pack straps while we hiked, biked, climbed, and walked. It was comfortable, heavy due to the load (about 7kg), but comfortable, and easy to flip around and change lenses or take out/stow gear.

While not waterproof, the waxed canvas finish held off a very rainy day in Guilin, protecting the gear despite the outside being totally soaked.

The extra metal loops were great to loop the cut-proof camera strap around while seated for lunch to protect against quick grab thefts.

What I don't like about this bag are two things: I would prefer a single large front pocket instead of two smaller ones (this is completely personal preference, as I like to put my iPad in there on the smaller bag, as its secured by the lid), and I would prefer if the shoulder strap was removeable from the metal rings.

I was torn on which bag to get when I wanted a larger one, and ended up sticking with Domke.

I was a bit disapointed when it arrived, as I was hoping for something (I don't know what), but after this long road test, I'm totally sold - and very happy I stuck with the brand.

This bag is highly overrated. I bought it based on the positive reviews on this site but have been very disappointed. It might have been one of the best camera bags back in the days when Domke created it. However, over the decades, technology has improved much and this bag missed much of the benefits modern bags have:

    1) There is virtually no padding and all the gear inside the bag is unprotected! Even worse, because the sides of the bags are not re-enforced, all the gear will sag to the middle of the bag -- just like an ordinary duffle bag.

    2) The wax treated material is horrible both for the gear inside and your cloth. After carrying it only for a few hours, the memory sticks and adapters that I had in my front pocket were are greasy and sticky from the wax. The side of my shirt where the bag rubs against was all dirty and full of wax.

    3) The fabric is very thin which makes me wonder how soon it will wear through.

    4) The strap is a simple cloth strap with no padding which makes the bag painful to wear. Also, many modern camera bags have non-slippery rubber sewn into the fabric, but this one doesn't.

    5) The metal clips that close the front straps are difficult to operate which makes the bag shooter-unfriendly.

Conclusion: Technological improvements over the decades have made life easier for most of us, but this bag is stuck in the 1970s. If you like the retro functionality of outdated gear, this bag might be for you.

Comments about Domke F-2 Ruggedwear Shooters Bag:

I have read that somebody didn't like Domke, they thought that it was "dated." Well, this bag is a meeting of style, function, form, materials, tradition, and ruggedness. I supposed if you have been weened on nylon and cheep assembly line zippers, the "hooks" might feel like a trip to the past. However, there is a function to them. The bag "feels" natural, and this is MADE IN AMERICA, and it feels like it. Solid but soft, and this bag, is not too big and not too small. This bag is for people who want the real deal. It is a shame that it doesn't come with a .45 and a whip ...

Comments about Domke F-2 Ruggedwear Shooters Bag:

I bought this bag about a year ago and have been highly satisfied with it. The construction is solid and is very well made. A lot of reviews said that it was going to be greasy/oily and that the coating would get on your gear or clothing. I haven't experienced that at all. The bag isn't greasy at all, the main and side flaps were a little stiff in the beginning but that was all I encountered. This bag holds a ton! I can fit in a Nikon D5100 with battery grip (no lens attached), film body, Nikon 50mm f1.8E, 35mm f1.8G, 16-85mm f3.5-5.6G, 55-200mm f4-5.6G, another 50mm f1.8, a 28-70mm vintage lens, 2 flashes, cleaning supplies, film, chargers/extra batteries, filters, cables, and my phone. In the rain this bag is very durable, no equipment gets wet and I rarely feel like I need to close the front clasps as the velco and snug padding is fine enough. My bag weights about 14 lbs (6kg) but because of the thick strap that is built into the bottom and rubberized grip, it never feels too heavy. Overall this is a great bag for any level of photographer. Sometimes I remove the 4-compartment insert and use the bag for a general purpose bag. I highly recommend you get this if you want a durable and discreet bag that will last you a lifetime.

Bought this to carry the Tamron 150-600. It is slightly snug when attached to a Nikon D610, but will be perfect once the fabric starts breaking in and has more flexibility. Lots of Room for accessories. I can still get at least 3 more lenses in it and probably another camera as well. Also a great bag to take out biking or hiking. Lots of room for anything you'd need and still room for your camera.

Comments about Domke F-2 Ruggedwear Shooters Bag:

I bought the F-2 for my Fuji X-T1 kit which as of now consists only of the X-T1 body with battery grip, 18-55m lens, and 55-200mm lens. I plan to add a third lens and probably a flash unit at some point. The F-2 carries all this nicely with some room to grow. I use the small front pockets for extra batteries, and other small items. The heavyweight canvas material feels very substantial in hand, but the bag still seems lightweight overall. Most of the padding is in the bottom except for the padded moveable dividers. The end pockets and sides of the bag are not padded, but the thin walls create a bag that sort of molds to your body and is very comfortable to wear and work out of. If you exercise a reasonable amount of care with your gear, the non-padded sides and end pockets should not be an issue. Quality of all materials and construction seems to be very good. The strap is comfortable, grips your shoulder, and encircles the entire bag which gives it a very solid feeling. Domke even includes a little tin of wax should you ever want to reapply a measure of waterproofing to the outer canvas surfaces. I think the description stating the bag can carry 1-2 DSLRs and 6-10 lenses may be a bit optimistic. I could easily see it carrying 2 consumer oriented DSLRs without lenses attached and maybe 4-5 lenses assuming they are not big, heavy fast-aperture models. On the other hand, it seems a perfect match for the smaller mirrorless bodies and lenses am using it for.

I love the look and feel of this bag, such a nice change from nylon.
Needed an alternative to my backpack, something to carry my camera with lens attached and a couple extra lenses.
This bag can easily do much more than that, making it very versatile.
I have swapped the stock insert with the Domke 720-250D insert.
Right now in my F2 I have my Nikon D7000, gripped, with attached 10-24mm lens with hood attached and cap off, ready to shoot, an 80-200mm afd f2.8 with HB48 lens hood reversed, 35mm afs f1.8 with hood attached, 50mm afd f1.8 with hood attached. Also have the SB600 flash in an outside pocket.
I can easily swap out a prime with a midrange zoom, or put a couple primes in an outside pocket
I can go light or fully loaded, whatever the situation dictates.
                          Very cool.

Comments about Domke F-2 Ruggedwear Shooters Bag:

I got this bag about 6 weeks ago and was very pleased with how fast it arrived. Once I got it out of the box I immediately started putting my gear into the bag. At first the fabric was rigid but after a couple days of gear going in and out of it, the fabric has expanded and is more flexible.

I can fit my Nikon D5100 with battery grip (body only), 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G, 35mm f/1.8G, 50mm f/1.8E, 55-200mm f/4-5.6G (place holder for 8mm fisheye), film SLR (body only), 50mm f/1.9, 28-70mm f/3.9-4.8, Sony H-70 two flashes, chargers, extra batteries, cords, lens pens, and rolls of film. I tie my tripod to the outside. I stack the primes on top of each other with padding in between, and the camera bodies on either side of the insert. The flashes go in the side pockets along with the batteries and chargers. The point and shoot, lens pens and cords go in the two front pockets and the film and hand strap go in the top pocket. All these things make the bag heavy (about 15-20 pounds), but I also don't bring all my gear to shoots.

The construction of the bag is fantastic, I had read a lot of reviews saying that there was too little padding, and I have to disagree, there is plenty of padding to keep your gear safe without being bulky. The bag conforms to your hips making it easy to walk with. Fantastic for photo walks, everything is right there, and the insert is removable making the transition from camera bag to duffle bag easy. The strap is wide and has rubber woven into the stitching so the strap doesn't slip off your shoulder. Rain isn't a problem, and as long as the top flap is closed, no water gets inside. Also people have said that the wax finish will rub off on your clothing and that isn't true. This bag doesn't have any residue and doesn't feel greasy.

All and all this is an amazing bag and probably the last bag I will ever buy. Great build, very reliable and defiantly works as hard as you do!

                          spacious and comfortable
can hold 1 camera, 4 lenses and accessories
additional bottom board is a must (I use it inside the bag, on top of the equipment)
ageless look, probably looks better the more you use it (like a quality leather jacket)
use the protective wraps for each lens (11" size is ideal)
This is my 5th and best camera bag yet

If you're looking for a camera bag to work out of, this is a good one. I keep two bodies, four lenses, filters, flashes and batteries in my bag and it works. I don't dig around for stuff. The bag protects the equipment from rain and dirt. The strap is outstanding: wide enough to not dig in to the shoulder, and grippy enough to not slip off. It seems to be designed by someone who actually works out of the bag. Given a choice, I'd buy another one.

This one is generally a great bag in shape, tecture and function. I can carry my D600 camera with a normal zoom lens in the center pocket and 910 Flash at one side and two small fixed lenses at the other side.
There are four outer side pockets around the bag, and I can carry battery charger, blower, lens caps if I want.

                                Cons
                                - These buckle type tips make me hard open up and close the cover. I used to use push to release tips before so I think I need some time to adapt to this new buckle.
                                - If you put your camera being mounted with your main lens in the center for protection and convenience, you have to put your other lenses outside of the center cushion. but only center part is filled with a decent cushion and the other area is made of relatively hard materials which do not soft enough for a shock-sensitive lens. I may need to buy an additional cushion of their products. (They might want me to buy one from the beginning.

Rugged quality and traditional Domke design. Plenty of room internally and in the multiple side pockets. The F-2 size holds 2 bodies, 6 lens, a flash, batteries, chargers, cables, filters...pretty much everything I own. Great value. Great looks. Great protection.

Comments about Domke F-2 Ruggedwear Shooters Bag:

I wanted a bag that was functional and discreetly able to carry lots of camera gear. Backpacks, waist packs and go-bags all signal "valuable stuff inside. Help yourself." The Domke F-2 bag exceeded my expectations.

Not only does the messenger bag style camouflage its function it adds to the overall look. With this bag on my shoulder I feel equally comfortable in the field and in the boardroom. Several friends immediately complimented the appearance.

The bag is made of high quality materials and the workmanship really stands out. I particularly like the rubber material stitched into the inside of the strap to help prevent slippage against clothing. The padding on the inside of the bag includes a large, soft pad on the bottom and modular compartment that holds lenses and accessories snugly in place.

I placed a full-side DSLR and five lenses, filters, spare battery and a bunch of accessories into the bag for a 14-hour photo safari in NYC. I crawled through tight spaces, climbed a ladder and ran to catch a train...all the while feeling comfortable and confident with my bag.

I own several camera bags - each with specific form and function. The F-2 is my primary choice for daily shooting.
