The Manfrotto 694CX Carbon Fiber Monopod is a compact and lightweight 4 leg section monopod that combines the strength of magnesium and carbon fiber. The monopod is crafted from carbon fiber using an exclusive, patented process. Under intense pressure, extra long carbon fibers are combined with resin to produce a stronger tube that absorbs more vibration using a wall thickness of only 1.2 mm.

Manfrotto engineers have also replaced all aluminum components with magnesium. The switch represents a lateral move in sturdiness, yet a substantial gain in strength and overall reduction of weight. The average weight reduction of magnesium compared to aluminum is about 35%.

I used this monopod for about 4 years. Weight, size, speed of set up were fine. I always preferred flip locks for the legs vs twist locks. However, the flip locks on this monopod were very hard to maintain due to dirt that got into mechanism. Cleaning very hard, need hex wrenches. As time went on, the flip locks became more difficult to flip open or closed, requiring adjustmentsI recently purchased a Gitzo for about $ on sale which uses twist locks. the new twist locks only take a short turn to lock unlock. Steady as fast tripod

Comments about Manfrotto 694CX Carbon Fiber Monopod:

The fancy carbon fibre charcoal black.Feels much stronger than 11 lb. limit .Comparable to my Gitzo, less expensive and with clamps instead of twist locks.Mannesium castings and easy to use clamps make this a sweetie.Balance like a feather.Tho not as light as the Gitzo this monopod will be perfect for general use and save my Gitzo for the heavy stuff. So if you want a excellent pure carbon fibre support for SLR cameras this is great! Interesting top disc with rubber shock absorbers to connect to head.Since it is a Vitek it is a high class version of Gitzo twist g lock monopod but this has maybe a nylon lever lock. This is much better than my cheaper Manfrotto monopods, speed and strength put this over the topPerfect companion for a Manfrotto carbon fibre tripod.Quick release heads plates make for a system.

Comments about Manfrotto 694CX Carbon Fiber Monopod:

This was an additional purchase to supplement an older Manfrotto monopod which I still use. I wanted it for hiking and situations where weight is a factor I purchased a light weight head and everything works well.

Comments about Manfrotto 694CX Carbon Fiber Monopod:

It's often hard to travel with a tripod since many public places will not let you use one...hence the opportunity for a monopod. Just like everything else that Manfrotto makes (I own two Manfrotto Tripods) this is well built. I love the carbon fiber for light weight (one of my tripods is carbon fiber and I love it). What I don't like about this monopod is the two-way screw mount for ¼' and ⅜" mounts and the very large size of the head plate mount to accommodate large heavy tripod heads. I would give this a 5-star rating for the build quality, not the overall usefulness.

The first thing I noticed when I received this monopod is how amazingly light and rigid it is. I have had several monopods in the past and they all had short comings. This is my first carbon fiber monopod and I wish I had purchased it sooner. This monopod also extends long enough for us tall guys to use. The only thing I would change would be to maybe put on a larger diameter foot. You can do this easily yourself as most hardware stores carry rubber feet for crutches and other items. If you are looking for a quality sturdy lightweight compact monopod with length for tall guys, this is the one. You will be very happy.

Comments about Manfrotto 694CX Carbon Fiber Monopod:

The monopod will be used to stabilize a 70-200mm lens coupled with a 1.4TC. This combination can be handheld, but the monopod definitely provides a sharper image. If you want to do bracketed exposures, for HDR for example, this monopod allowed me to make images that can be aligned. By contrast, some handheld bracketed images could not be aligned as the framing was too different. An HDR shot of the moon came out very sharp and actually slightly better than an image taken using a tripod (VR not used with tripod.) It can also be used as a support for panormas, again with very acceptable results. There is really no down side to this monopod. Good combination of light weight and stable support and typical excellent Manfrotto construction. I find their quick release leg extension quicker and easier to use than the twist type locks.

Comments about Manfrotto 694CX Carbon Fiber Monopod:

I have not had much chance to use this product yet but the first thing that really stood out when I took the monopod out of the box was the weight , It felt solid but so light !
The ease of movement when adjusting the leg sections was very smooth ,I have purchased other Manfrotto products in the past and I have been very satisfied and I hope that with the wear and tear I will put this monopod through while photographing in the Sonoran Desert where I live it will also stand the test of time. Using a tripod in the desert amongst the cactus is a real PAIN in more ways than one ,a monopod is much easier to set up and move around with while tracking wildlife.

Comments about Manfrotto 694CX Carbon Fiber Monopod:

Finally after all these years I got a monopod that I hope to start using! Has great height, too and naturally like the latch on legs.

Although I have not used it much so far (have not had it long), it is robust & lightweight & the lock clamps are great when one has Arthritis in the thumbs.

This is a super stable well built monopod. Solid engineering, clean machined edges, and super light.
Excellent height range for sitting, kneeling, or standing and shooting.

Comments about Manfrotto 694CX Carbon Fiber Monopod:

One of the lighter monopods on the market & very stiff. MUCH faster to deploy than a tripod. And combined with with a good optical image stabilizer & self timer, has allowed shutter times as long as a quarter of a sec. (Might be able to go for longer times.)

The rubber foot is a blunt tip, covered in rubber. Not flat enough to place on a floor & not pointy enough to dig into soil, or even be used as a walking stick. An interchangeable foot would have been a much better idea.

When completely compacted, too long for my daypack, and the mentioned tripod case is overkill.

Use for bracketted exposures is suspect. Minimal success, but suspect my ignorance of Photomatix is the problem, not the use of the monopod.

Bottom Line: If I'm walking anywhere, and not doing night or scene mode HDR, this is a mandatory accessory.
