Great small speakers
These are great for listening to my Sony portable CD player when I don't want it to be 'portable'. Comes with a AC cord so as not to use up your batteries.

I will plug it into my laptop next as the sound needs some help. I know these little speakers will do it!

I purchased these speakers to get more volume for my laptop. Set up was easy, they just plugged into my earphone jack and into the wall. The sound quality was really great for such little speakers and I did not notice any buzz while they were playing. However, even with my computer volume set on high and the speaker volume set on high, the sound was no louder than my (harmon/kardon) computer speakers alone...which isn't very loud. I purchased sony because I have some speakers that came with a VIAO that I bought over 10 years ago and they are no bigger and can punch out sound to rival a large stereo system, so I thought maybe these would do the same. I must say I was disappointed, the sound is richer than my computer speakers but no louder.

The highs and mid range sounds are decent for a pair of small 2.5 watt speakers. The low tones are lacking but thats understandable given the size of the speakers.

Overall not a bad buy. Speakers produce good sound quality from iTunes. Not much bass but fills a medium sized room with sound. If your looking from a portable on the go sound amp for your portable device... this is it. If you want room sound quality look elsewhere.

Comments about Sony SRS-M50/BLK Portable Speakers (Black):
I should have come to B&H first, but I ordered them from the dominant internet retailer- who sent a version with a European plug on the AC adapter, knowing this has been a problem. And they couldn't fix it. B&H got the correct version to me fast!
These were the only decent speakers of this size that I could find that weren't USB powered, connected with a headphone cable, and had AC/Battery versatility. We needed to improve the tinny speakers on a new small TV we got. I attached this pair on the top edge, and the difference is dramatic. Looks odd, but you could put them anywhere. And, weirdly, the speakers sounded almost the same when I turned them face down on the countertop. So far, we're lovin' 'em!

I really like the sound that comes from these little, light-weight speakers. I use them everywhere with any of my portable electronics. The bass is enough. I did not expect them to sound like large speakers. But for their sized they sound great.
Comments about Sony SRS-M50/BLK Portable Speakers (Black):
This is what I wanted to enhance the sound of my Vaio laptop. The volume is just right for the entire 800 sq. ft room. So smooth, I can hear every instrument. . I just love these tiny speakers!

Bought for car camping and backpacking. Only drawback, They do not work without batteries or supplied ac pack so not passive. These speakers sound amazing for how small they are, beats out the ihome because they are actually in an enclosure so can actually hear theres bass is in songs vs cheaper brands and designs.

Comments about Sony SRS-M50/BLK Portable Speakers (Black):
These tiny, cube-shaped gems from Sony are a step up from most low-priced computer speakers.
I purchased them for my computer as well as to augment sound as hidden satellite speakers in live performance. The latter is not their intended use but they held up well with crisp treble and passable bass, though keep in mind this writer finds most computer speakers that promise big bass unforgivably exaggerate (and distort) lower frequencies. If you're serious about bass get a dedicated subwoofer!
I appreciate nice touches like a protective crossbar across the speaker cone, a green led power-on light, and the ability to run on batteries or AC.
The power switch is a small slider which can be hard to see, however the volume is a dime-sized dial offering a reasonable range of volume.
Weirdly, Sony has designed the speakers to lock to each other, however they attach vertically (one atop the other!) and point in opposite directions.
My only beef is that the cabling between the speakers is the same thin gauge wire you see on earbuds, so it is best to set up the speakers and leave 'em be, lest the cable get damaged. I should add that these speakers have been dropped (from 1 foot onto a hard stage) and kicked several times and still sound great.
Unlike the audio cable which is hard wired to each cube, the AC adapter plugs in unobtrusively to the back of one speaker; the transformer is a contemporary slender adapter, and thankfully not one of the power-strip hogging wall warts of yore.

I have 2 pairs of these speakers. One pair I use with my computer for music and movies, and the other pair I have near my bed to listen to music during the night from my phone! With velcro I attach the speakers to the underside of the shelf on my headboard so they don't take up space on the lower shelf. They are light, and sound great!

They Sound great without distortion, and are easy to pack. They fit snugly together. I like them very much. The only thing that could make them better would be a small zipper case.
